Rudyeva, Sofia Andreevna. “Miss Russia” Sofia Rudyeva: “I was blackmailed! Sofia Rudyeva: biography
Sofia Rudyeva was born on November 15, 1990 in Leningrad into a family of artists, Andrei and Tatyana Rudyev. At the age of ten she studied in a theater studio, but left it after two years of study. When Sofia was 12 years old, her parents separated, and the girl chose to stay with her dad. According to Andrei Rudyev, “her mother is a slightly antisocial person. For her, the meaning of life comes down to conversations in the kitchen over a cigarette.” In the summer of 2008, the girl graduated from school No. 203 named after A. S. Griboedov. Currently she plans to enter a university, but has not yet decided on a profession. According to Tatyana Rudyeva, Sofia wanted to enroll in psychology courses, but due to the difficult financial situation in her father’s family, she was forced to take part in a beauty contest in order to provide herself with an education.
Career
Rudieva got into the modeling business when she was 15. Within a year she was receiving decent fees for filming (up to a thousand dollars per photo shoot). At the age of 16, she took part in the Elite Model Look Russia 2007 competition.
On March 7, 2009, the girl became the winner of the Miss Russia contest. This victory is the first such case in the history of this beauty contest. Previously, only the winners of regional competitions participated in the finals. Sofia, although not Miss Petersburg, won the federal competition. This became possible thanks to the new rules that have been in force for Miss Russia since 2009. To participate in the competition, you now only need to go through a casting in Moscow. It is not necessary to have a regional title. Rudyeva intended to spend the money she won (100 thousand dollars) to help seal pups who are being exterminated. Victory at the Miss Russia contest allowed Sofia to represent Russia at the Miss Universe contest.
On August 23, 2009, Sofia took part in the Miss Universe competition. However, she did not make it to the 15 finalists. Sofia said that she was not at all upset by the loss.
During her tenure as Miss Russia 2009, Sofia became the face of the Oriflame and Pepsi Light brands. At the invitation of designer Philipp Plein, she took part in a photo shoot with Dima Bilan for the designer’s new collection.
Scandal
Soon after winning the Miss Russia contest, erotic photographs of Rudyeva, taken for the foreign magazine Perfect10 four years ago, when the girl was only 15 years old, were published on the Internet. According to the former chairman of the scientific council for preparing girls for the competition, I.V. Prokhortsev, because of the scandal, Sophia will be disqualified from the next stage of the beauty contest, since “The President of the Miss World contest, Julia Morley, will not allow A girl with a dirty past took part in such a prestigious competition.”
Rudyeva herself admitted her mistake in an open letter and stated that she sincerely regrets her action. Fears that the scandal surrounding the erotic photo shoot would become an obstacle to her participation in the Miss Universe competition were not justified: the organizers of the competition did not consider this photo shoot an “aggravating circumstance” and confirmed Sofia’s participation.
Were you the most beautiful girl at school too?
I wouldn't say that. Until the ninth grade, I never wore skirts, except on September 1st. I wore trousers and sneakers, was embarrassed by my thin legs, and even stopped going to physical education because of this. But the summer after ninth grade I was invited to a modeling agency. I had to stand on stiletto heels. The first time was very difficult, my legs and back hurt and I really wanted to put on my usual shoes and comfortable clothes. I quickly got used to it, I even learned to run in heels. A lot has changed in me over the summer. When I entered tenth grade at a new school, I felt that I had changed: my classmates looked at me with interest, gave me compliments, some were even afraid to meet me.
Were there many fans?
I think nature has rewarded me with a bright image, and to many it seems cold and inaccessible. There was no such thing as guys huddling together because of me. It is very difficult for me to make friends, especially fans. I have great difficulty letting people into my world. Some qualities of men immediately repulse me. For example, when men show off or brag, trying to impress, it has exactly the opposite effect on me.
What was your first love?
The first love was bright, but short. The feeling passed quickly, in just a few weeks. Modern young people sometimes behave very strangely, I even regret that I live in the 21st century. I think that in England somewhere in the middle of the 19th century they took better care. "Old school" courtship can move you to tears.
How did you get into modeling?
I was wandering around one of the shopping centers in St. Petersburg. A fair-haired girl came up to me and said: “I’m from a modeling agency, give me your phone number, you have all the data to work as a model.” I was delighted with this meeting and, naturally, rushed at the first call, but things didn’t work out: there were a lot of castings, but all of them were unsuccessful. Later, I changed the agency to a more professional one, daily lessons, makeup, meetings began, I worked a lot at shows, took part in photo shoots, and began acting in music videos.
How did it happen that you ended up at the Miss Russia competition?
A scout from the Miss Russia competition contacted us at the modeling agency. He liked me and invited me to Moscow for a casting. On the first try they didn’t appreciate me, they said I was too curvy. I was not upset and forgot this story. A couple of years later I met the same person at my new agency. They took my picture and they started calling me, calling me, calling me. At that time, I had already found my feet in St. Petersburg, worked a lot in the modeling industry, and to be honest, I didn’t really want to change my usual lifestyle or go to a competition in Moscow, but in the end I agreed.
Is everything fair at the competition?
In fact, this is a pretty clear example of how everything at the competition is fair and transparent. I am a person who initially did not expect to win, but the jury decided otherwise. You know, during classes, to entertain us, the organizers arranged this game: twenty-five girls paraded around the stage, and the other twenty-five watched and selected - first ten, then five, then three and then the winner. I was never among the top five, or even the top ten, and I never expected to win. When I won, I was completely shocked.
How did your family react?
It was quite a funny story. I've been living with my dad since I was thirteen. When he called me, I was already on my way to sign the Miss Russia contract, right after the show. But she didn’t tell him anything - she decided to let him watch the broadcast. And we had the following dialogue: “Well, how are you, Sonchik?” - “Well, everything is fine.” - “Aren’t you very upset?” - "Not really". - “Was everything normal?” - “Listen, dad, watch the show tomorrow, you’ll like it, in principle, everything went well, I didn’t fall on stage.” But there was no surprise. In the morning, representatives of the St. Petersburg television company came to my house: “Hello, congratulations on your victory. Sophia allowed us to film.” - “With what victory?” - Dad was perplexed. Naturally, he was shocked, and there was no surprise.
What projects do you have now?
Recently I made a recording of the children's charity anthem “Miss Russia” - “This World is for Children”, my voice is heard there. I’m going to Makhachkala soon with a charity event from UNICEF. I'm auditioning for television. I really want to host my own travel show. Naturally, there is a desire to play in some film.
What did you dream of as a child?
Naturally, as a girl I wanted to be a princess. Then - to become the girl of James Bond, Pierce Brosnan - this is my favorite Bond. A mature, elegant man. I also dreamed of a big, strong family, my own home, but most of all, that someday I would become a happy, beautiful grandmother.
Aren't you afraid of losing your beauty with age?
Let time pass, the skin fades, this is not the most important thing. The main thing is to feel like an interesting person, and the main thing is people who are drawn to you, no matter how old you are. Why do we want to be beautiful and young? So that they pay attention to us. If you have nothing but your appearance, then that’s really all you’ll care about. I find it very interesting with myself. Sometimes I sit alone and think – it’s very interesting. (Laughs.)
Do you feel like the darling of fate?
I wouldn’t say that everything that comes to me comes for nothing. I have my own little secrets of success: at night, when I go to bed, I remember the whole day and analyze what I liked, what I didn’t like, what needs to be changed. And all situations that cause me a feeling of aggression, anger, I model the way I would like to see them. This is very useful, the next day everything will be the way I wanted.
Russian model from St. Petersburg Sofia Andreevna Rudyeva became the winner of the Miss Russia beauty contest in 2009. For an eighteen-year-old girl, this was the first serious achievement. Later, as part of advertising campaigns, she represented the Oriflame and Pepsi-Light companies in Russia, participated in photo shoots and fashion shows to advertise a new clothing collection from designer Philipp Plein, and starred in music videos of popular Russian performers.

Sofia's hometown is St. Petersburg. She comes from a family of artists. The parents separated when the girl was twelve years old. She appeared on the modeling catwalk at the age of fifteen. According to her mother, money was difficult in the family, and the girl wanted to earn money to pay for her own education. A year later, she began to receive up to a thousand dollars for participating in photo shoots, and at the age of sixteen she performed for the first time in a beauty contest.
Soon after her victory, photographs taken four years earlier for Perfect10 magazine appeared in the press. The scandal was hushed up after a public apology from Rudyeva, who told how she regretted her indiscretion.
Victory at the Russian competition allowed Rudyeva to claim the title of Miss Universe. She did not make it to the finals, but the defeat did not disappoint her at all.
