Walkthrough of theHunter: Call of the Wild. Tips and Guide
In order to attract the attention of the audience, the developers of the company Avalanche Studios (publisher - Expansive Worlds) were shooting in all directions. The Hunter game is not technically a new word in the genre of hunting simulators. Realistic mechanics, excellent graphics - all this was already present to one degree or another in Big Game Hunter from Activision or Deer Hunter from the well-known Atari studio.
A rather interesting decision in The Hunter was the division of the gameplay into two practically independent parts. All organizational issues are resolved through the browser Launcher, designed neatly and in a minimalist style. With its help, players can communicate, view statistics, manage finances and equipment, sign up for competitions, and select a game mode and hunting area. And only after specifying all the details, the user launches the client part of the game. In which, in fact, he is left alone with the wild nature and the victim, which still needs to be found...
The Hunter: Among the forests and fields
A careful look at the client side of the game gives rise to an understanding: yes, the developers tried, but without fanaticism.
A very beautifully drawn world, which is not without reason compared to Skyrim, is absolutely not interactive. Once loaded in the hunting camp, you can poke into doors and various objects, but you won’t be able to activate almost anything. The gatehouses and sheds are boarded up tightly. You can’t go into them, admire the trophies, or rummage through supplies that don’t fit in your backpack. There is also no minimum in-game ammo store with a colorful and witty seller. There are only a few shooting ranges, the meaning of which is not particularly clear, because they do not provide any bonuses. Unless they allow you to practice long-range shooting, for example with a bow.
The same will happen in the vast hunting grounds. Of the points marked on the map, only observation platforms and towers will be useful. Everything else is silent decoration, interaction with which is reduced to zero. After half an hour of exploring the world, a slight feeling of loneliness arises and the realization that there is no one in this reality except you and potential prey.
However, such a meager implementation of reserves can be interpreted in different ways. One way or another, it creates a certain atmosphere. It is much more difficult to come to terms with the flaws in the movement mechanics, which make the game seem damp. The nature of The Hunter is filled with scenery, but only part of it actually exists. Like an ethereal ghost, the character walks through bushes and fallen trees. At the same time, a ridge of stones, for some reason hanging in the air at waist level, stops her and forces her to go around.
Hills are a separate issue. Any rise at an angle of up to 70-80 degrees to the horizon can be overcome by our hunter without much difficulty. You watch with slight envy as he climbs almost sheer slopes, slowly moving his feet, walking through the air and plunging into textures. To be fair, it should be noted that there are still heavy rocks in the game, they are just few. To overcome such obstacles, the developers have introduced climbing equipment into the in-game store.
The same can be said about all other aspects of the game mechanics. Whistling, which is supposed to scare away animals, only works on birds. If you fall, you may break. At the same time, only the most perceptive will discover the key combination with which you can leave the game without “Alt + F4” if there are no first aid kits or supplies for teleporting to the camp in your inventory. You can look for prey from towers for a very long time using binoculars. But you will never know that animals are visible at a distance of no more than 220 meters.
All these moments are sad considering that the very first version of the game appeared back in 2009.
A separate word must be said about the Russification of the project. Both in the launcher and in the client, there is more of an illusion of translation than the translation itself. As we move away from content for beginners and services, Russian words and sentences become fewer and fewer.
At this point, perhaps, it’s worth temporarily stopping the flow of criticism and moving on to those aspects of the game that the developers succeeded brilliantly.
The Hunter: Chasing the Beast
Even though the elaboration of the surrounding reality in The Hunter is a little lame, the hunting process itself is done “excellently”. Killing an animal with a sniper rifle is a simple matter that takes no more than 5 minutes. It's much more difficult to track him down. Sometimes the search for prey can take 5-6 hours. But thanks to competent logical elaboration, this process does not get boring for a very long time.
All animals in the game leave traces that the hunter is able to detect. For convenience, they are highlighted with red circles, visible from afar. After finding the trail, you need to use your HunterMate smartphone, your constant companion on any expedition. By pressing a special button it will show:
- The type of animal to which the prints belong;
- The direction in which it moved;
- The speed at which it was moving.
Moreover, the portable assistant is able to distinguish between traces of different individuals of the same species. Therefore, you can pursue a particular deer as long as necessary without fear of confusing it with others and losing the right direction.
Sometimes the animals shout at each other. These sounds can also be used for tracking. HunterMate regularly shows the approximate point on the map from which the last signal came.
Thus, no mindless wandering around the map. Maximum - until the first trace detected. Then the game turns into a real detective stealth adventure. Here we are sneaking behind a peacefully walking deer, trying not to spook it. So he sensed something was wrong and accelerated to a trot. We haven't found the next trail yet, but we already know he's running. We saw how the bastard just galloped off over that hill. We check it on HunterMate - indeed. It's starting to rain. Meanwhile, two hours passed...
You can go another way. Even the beginner’s starter kit contains special mixtures that attract animals. A decoy is placed in a place with a high concentration of traces. Next, a hiding place is set up (something like a dugout), in which the hunter waits for his prey. And sooner or later, she will make herself known. The main thing is patience.
The number of factors on which the success of approaching a victim depends is impressive. The hunter can move in four modes: running, walking, sneaking and crawling. The wind, the direction of which can be determined by the moving clouds, can attribute our scent to the beast. Therefore, it is worth using special deodorants. In order to better blend into the terrain, you should wear special clothing and camouflage.
There is also a risk in the game of being maimed by one of the aggressive animals, such as a bear or a wild boar. This will not have any serious consequences, but it will interrupt the game session if there is no first aid kit in the inventory.
There are more than enough animals to hunt. Among them: deer, hares, wild boars, bears, kangaroos and several species of birds. For each of them there is a list of permitted types of weapons. Kill your prey with the wrong gun: not only will it not be counted, but you will also be asked to leave the reserve. The game also has some kind of role-playing system. During the successful search for tracks (tracking) and detection of animals, the corresponding skills grow.
Multiplayer
Hunting in real life is not only about the thrill of tracking and the adrenaline of encountering wildlife, but also a sport. A competition whose results can be boasted in the right company. This is exactly what the developers of Avalanche Studios played on, adding a kind of “social network” directly into the game’s Launcher. With its help, players have the opportunity to:
- See your place in the world ranking table. It depends on a variety of factors, ranging from the number of frags to the kilometers traveled through the reserves;
- Participate in competitions. Most of them are done in single player mode and require, say, killing three deer with the maximum weight in total;
- Keep all your trophies and “victory” pictures in one tab that everyone can see.
It was this competitive spirit, coupled with the relatively good implementation of locations and mechanics, that was able to bring the hunting simulator genre to a whole new level within the framework of one single game.
What you shouldn't look for in the online component of The Hunter are reasons to meet new people. The motivation for interaction between players, other than to measure the size of trophies, is minimal. There is multiplayer where you can hunt together. But why, if any players who join your session are just competitors? Some fans are trying to bring real-life entertainment, like driven hunting, into the game. If such ideas do not fail, they are the exception rather than the rule.
Perhaps if the fines for collisions with aggressive animals were more serious, there would be more joint hunting stories. At the moment, The Hunter is a game for singles. And her networking opportunities are aimed more at maintaining constant interest than at spending time together.
The Hunter: Everything costs money
And The Hunter, ideally, is also quite large. The donation system is perhaps the heaviest stone in the garden of this game.
And it's not even that it doesn't live up to its Free-to-Play name. Yes, beginners are actually only allowed to hunt black-tailed deer. A beginner's arsenal is extremely poor. And yet, even this is enough for several hours of exciting gameplay. Plus, the people who created this wonderful entertainment for millions should not work for free.
The point is the number of services that you will have to spend on for a successful game.
A license is required to shoot any animal. It costs about 600 rubles for three months. Pay-to-Play system? Quite a common idea. Blizzard with World of Warcraft has long broken into the bright future of the computer industry with this payment system.
But not every weapon is suitable for the chosen beast. And the initial set of accessories is extremely small. The simplest solution is to purchase an advanced beginner kit. It costs about 2,000 rubles, gives an annual license for all animals and a completely suitable set of things to play with comfort.
Is this where it all ends? Yes, if you do not claim top places in the ratings and are ready to play for fun. If gaming is a sport for you, then get ready for mandatory expenses.
There are two types of currency in the game. The first is purchased for real (em), the second (gm) is given for competitions and completing single missions (like “hunt and kill a deer with 6 branches on its antlers”).
In-game money can be spent on consumables such as ammunition, deodorants and climbing equipment. Moreover, not much is given for gm quests, and what’s most unpleasant is that the tasks end. To win the competition... Well, if you manage to win among the world leaders of the game, then good, of course.
However, if the quests are over, you can update them. It will cost about 500 rubles.
In addition to the basic equipment, there are many more upgraded items. Not just beautiful, but rather providing small bonuses when searching for animals. These include: more advanced models of clothing and hiding places that reduce noise or odor, decoys for certain types of animals, traps and other useful gadgets. Recently, dog companions have appeared that are extremely useful when hunting ducks and rabbits.
All this is bought for em, that is, for real money. And if you decide to compete with the world leaders in the ratings without spending a penny above the subscription amount... Then it’s worth remembering what an advantage an equipped hunter has over an ordinary one. Even in real life.
Bottom line
The Hunter could have been a masterpiece if it had been a little more detailed. And even despite the small number of weaknesses in the implementation of reserves, it is very good. And the creation of a kind of social network in which you can compete and share achievements immediately brought Avalanche Studios and Expansive Worlds to a new level of popularity compared to their more experienced competitors.
With all its positive features, the game could turn into the founder of an entire e-sports discipline of virtual hunting. But the high level of donation will not allow her to do this in the current version.
However, The Hunter will find its regular audience of hunting enthusiasts thanks to its smart mechanics and a large number of varied tasks. I would recommend trying a hunting simulator for yourself on a guest account to any gamer who has a few hours of free time. Because it’s definitely worth looking at this well-tailored product with at least one eye.

prologue
Playing in co-op mode and meeting our people, I’m simply amazed at the questions they ask me. decided to spend thirty minutes of my virtual hunting time to explain the main points of the game.

Due to the introduction of multiplayer on June 03, 2013, you also now have the opportunity to explore all reserves in single player mode, as well as connect to an online game created by other players (only members can create/host games).
Some tips and tricks:
- The wind in all locations blows mainly from south to north with slight deviations, so start at the top and go down the map (on your huntermate the arrow should point down). This way the animal won’t smell you ahead of time.
- It is better to choose the time for hunting in the settings from the morning before 9-10 or after 15-00. from 10 to 15 the animals mostly rest/hide and are not so active. in the morning and after lunch they move more, they speak more often, the only bad thing is that there is little light, a lot of shadow.
- Do not look far for animals with binoculars; they cannot be seen further than 220 meters.
- at the beginning the game will not be called a hunter for you, but a pathfinder. So, don’t trust your huntermate (huntermate is a gaming GPS navigator with the function of identifying tracks and sounds of animals, which shows the radius, vector of the animal’s location or the place from which the animal makes the sound). Believe only in the indicated direction, at first the error of this device reaches 60%, and this is a very large spread. Therefore, we peer carefully into the distance and closer, as well as to the sides.
- as a tracker, do not pass by the tracks, fix them with huntermate - this affects your character’s skills. skills allow you to extract more information from the detected tracks over time (the age of the track, the sex of the animal, weight, points - read more about the skills below). Of course, you shouldn’t bother at all, but if a group of five female deer passed by you, and you are in the other direction, do not hesitate to collect three tracks (fixing the first three tracks with a huntermate adds the most to your tracking skills) with each “chasing them in the heel "i.e. in the opposite direction to their movement.
- and even more important, before shooting, it is necessary, if possible, to locate the animal, i.e. fix it by a) gaze (if the target is very close) b) binoculars or c) through optics. The system’s successful detection of an animal is indicated by the appearance of information about the animal in the upper right corner of the screen and a white outline around the animal; this is what counts as detection, and not just because you saw it. Improving your detection skills also allows you to gain more information about the detected animal over time. I think it’s clear why this is even more important, it’s possible to target more than to detect, as a result, detection skills lag several levels behind tracking skills. therefore, seeing a group of female deer through binoculars will also not be a bad idea.
- don’t run - you won’t find anything at all, 20% walking, 70% crouching and 5% running (after a shot you can run up 50-70 meters, anyway, all living things around you will run away) and crawling. crawling speed = 15m/game minute, squatting = 30m, walking = 43m (2.6 km/h), running = 87m (5.2 km/h). Audibility (approximately): running - 200m, walking - 100m, squatting - 50m, crawling - 10-30. if you hear the steps (sound of hooves) of an approaching animal, then it is closer than 40m, if you heard the sound of an animal running away, it could be 50-60 meters away from you, you did not notice it and scared it off with your actions.
- hunting scheme: walking - searching for a trace, found - sat down, started tracking, found visually - excellent, identified by sound (which means the animal is closer than 220m) and it can also hear you, or rather your decoy. moved forward 15-20 meters (if it is far away ~200m) and beckoned in response, noted the time - the decoy lasts 11 game minutes, after which the animal will return to its business. The black-tail moves after the decoy straight towards you with minor deviations from the course at a speed of 50-100m/10 game minutes. after 7-8 minutes they beckoned again. track the movement by the sounds the animal makes. if in 15-20 game minutes the animal has never responded, it most likely left (as a rule, it makes a sound every 7-8 minutes of game time). You can track the time using the server clock by setting marks for yourself through the chat window (by default enter, for myself I reassigned it to the one on the additional numeric keypad on the right): 1 game minute = 30 real seconds. my system, so as not to strain the memory and not to convert server time stamps into game ones: I heard a sound, pressed enter and entered huntermate minutes and 0 into the chat window that opened, beckoned - again entered minutes and +. for example: 060, 07+, 150, 15+, 21x. x - I record the shot to understand when everything calms down (this is approximately 12 game minutes).
- do not climb the bushes - you do not have a bow but a sniper, choose open spaces and it is better if you are on a hill (the animal is lower).
- train your gaming eye. Instead of playing lane bandit while waiting for the animal, I play “guess how many meters to that tree”, although I check myself with a rangefinder, then put a point and see how far it takes on huntermate. If you don’t have a rangefinder, you’ll have to walk around, but that’s not a problem either. sneaking through the forest, they noticed a tree ahead, figured out how many meters, noted the distance shown by the huntermate, got to the tree, subtracted one from the other, and got the distance. according to my observations, if we take into account that the player’s location on the huntram is shown by a transparent circle inside the triangle, then the tip of the triangle is exactly 50m from you, respectively, two such distances will give 100m.
- I will share my method of movement. I only use the wsad control keys near an animal when I’m sneaking up. during normal long walking in search of a trail, tracking, pressing w all the time is tiring, I use two useful keys x - switching head rotation (reassigned to the middle mouse button) and q - switching to auto-walking. I pressed q and just adjusted the direction of movement with the mouse, pressed the middle mouse button and looked around.
- complete missions (tasks) for the blacktail - this will help you earn some gm$ (a new game currency recently), which can be spent on buying ammunition and licenses. The missions here are more for training than testing because... many of them run an additional game scenario aimed at completing the mission. so, for example, you activated the mission to get a black-tailed deer with at least 8 branches, go into the game and after 10 minutes he comes out to meet you, all so beautiful and even calling you. Don't rejoice at your luck - this is the work of the game script. When you complete the mission, you may not see the next one soon and will not get it so easily.
- follow the news, sometimes developers give you free weekend hunting for a certain type of animal (if only your rifle and ammunition are allowed for this type of animal - we’ll see).
- Don’t rush to spend real money and buy anything. hunt for 3-4 months, see if the ardor has cooled, if you are tired. Now, when registering, your rating will be more than 400 thousand. By catching several animals and raising your hunter points to 4, you will already move up to 100 thousand. place, having spent 100 hours of real time on the game, shooting at all the animals with four types of weapons, I moved up in the ranking to 15 thousand place - this is already an indicator of the game’s more or less real audience. Why am I saying this, because according to statistics, the game lives on players’ hard drives for an average of 130 days, not many people have enough time for more. do not hurry. feel it. This is not a counter-strike or a worldoftanks, but rather closer to a train simulator. the game is measured, leisurely, and in some ways even meditative (I even love just walking through the forest and listening to the sounds of nature). There is no need to rush here, you need to be able to wait, etc. In short, the game has its own narrow audience and first you need to understand whether you are included in it. Remember, it is impossible to sell or exchange everything purchased and it will all hang as a dead weight in your profile. be that as it may, the fact remains that this game is the best that has been created in terms of a hunting simulator to date! graphics, sounds, open world, a new adventure every time, I never had two identical hunts - beauty! and also, do not pay attention to the fact that animals for which you do not have a license will dance around you... as soon as you buy a membership, they will all be blown away by the wind and you will again crawl around in search of the same thing. I hunted for half a year with a guest license and I’ll tell you those were the best days, the hardest. in general, if you hunt less than 1-2 times a month, a guest license is more than enough, don’t waste your money. if you hunt 1-2 times a month, then each such hunt will be equal to 1 trip to the cinema ~ 300 Russian rubles. buy membership 5$/month. - not enough, you will still need to spend at least another 20-30 dollars on the purchase of all equipment, so that it is already more or less comfortable and you can get the maximum benefit from membership and pleasure from hunting.
- I’ll say right away that you shouldn’t make money from sponsorships if you’re not very strong in English. I tried it twice. I once deposited $20 into the Eurogrand casino to get $45 = 4500em$ into my account (profitable), spent a week corresponding with sponsors because... They didn’t see my payment and all sorts of awkward things there, but in the end they credited it. the second time I put 10 bucks on 888poker in the hope of getting $50 in the form of em$ (also a good benefit) from supersonicads, spent 3 weeks of correspondence and in the end they simply stupidly refused me without explaining any clear reasons. Fortunately, I lost both 20 and 10 with pleasure and forgot. steam!!!
- take part in blacktail competitions - perhaps luck will smile on you and you will win a trophy (don’t roll your lip too much, even if you win it’s only 100em$ = 1$ real, but you won’t go far with it).
like a member you will have an unlimited number of standard(!) cartridges for your entire arsenal of weapons, access to all reserves and licenses to hunt all types of animals. membership types. You can buy only access for 3/6/12 months, or for beginners sets are offered at a good discount. the only problem is that these kits offer junk that you may never need, such as an anemometer (the wind always blows from the south and its direction can be determined by the falling leaves from the trees), supplies for the camp, a pistol with an optic from which I shot as many as 0 times, a baseball cap that I have never worn (I bought a set of Doc Monsignor clothes separately), a turkey decoy (I bought a set of decoys at a significant discount and now I have two turkey decoys). although on the other hand, I actively use a 12-gauge pump-action shotgun, which costs an additional $4.5 and, together with a three-month membership, pays for the entire starter kit (wayfarer).
In the store for each weapon it is indicated which cartridge and what animals can be hunted with it (you can see the summary table).
To save money, try to choose a weapon that covers the maximum of your hunting needs. I’m lucky in this regard, I like to hunt stealthily with a bow, getting close and quiet. a bow does not scare away animals as much as a firearm (100 meters versus 220). + the arrow is allowed for hunting all animals (!). There is such a thing in the game as achievements. They are tracked in three areas: weapons, animals and research. Each hunted animal is +1 point to hunted animals of a given species and +1 point to the weapon from which the animal was harvested. Upon reaching certain thresholds of 1/25/100/250/500, so-called hunter points 1/2/5/10/15 are awarded, respectively, i.e. For each animal and weapon you can score a maximum of 33 hunter points. Additionally, hunter points are awarded for research - time spent on the game (real hours) and distance traveled, as well as for the total number of animals hunted. I won’t go into detail here, everything can be seen in your profile on the achievements tab. Hunter points directly affect your rating (position in the general list of all players) and if you do not suffer from delusions of grandeur, then this rating is absolutely useless for you. I will only note that the maximum for today (10/05/2013) you can score 1772 hunter points to get to 1st place in the ranking. Accordingly, with the advent of a new weapon or animal, the bar moves back. there is one “little evil” in these achievements which forces the hunter, in pursuit of points (not for rating), to hunt everything and everyone around, including males and females (they don’t give points for female deer, they are not trophies to begin with), but they add +1 to achievements.
But you need these hunter points to open additional slots in your inventory. now in more detail. There are only 10 slots in the inventory - 3 for weapons, 6 for equipment and 1 for large equipment (tent, storage shed, etc.) - this is what is at hand and stuffed under the keys from 1 to 0. the rest, if free space allows be in the backpack, and if you need something from the backpack, you need to go into the inventory, free up the slot and put another item in its place. Of course, it’s not convenient to climb into your backpack every time (the default key is I), but at first you still have to because you will only have two slots for weapons and three slots for inventory + a slot for large equipment. Slot 4 opens when you reach 60 hunter points, 5 - 180, 6 - 360, and the third weapon slot opens when you reach 600 hunter points. Considering that the third slot for weapons can only be used for a pistol - I personally need it like a hare’s fifth leg, but three slots for inventory are oh so necessary. Of course, if you have a guest license, three slots are quite comfortable (binoculars + decoy + camera), but this is not enough for membership. With the opening of the fourth slot, it’s already easier to breathe, considering that you have both binoculars and a rangefinder 2 in 1.
Here's my typical pack for a hunt in Settler Creek - as you can see, it's loaded to the brim even with the extra space in my pack. Of course, you can break out of this bad karma of chasing slots by simply buying them in the store, but I think it’s not worth spending 5 dollars on each if you can open them for free, especially since it will be nice to “experience” this additional slot over time.:
- four purchases that I have never regretted
- binoculars with rangefinder = 700ems. as if you were given binoculars for free and you just want to buy a rangefinder for 250ems, but think about the fact that you will have to constantly switch between the rangefinder and binoculars (this just gets tiring over time) + they take up two slots in the equipment out of the initially available three (!!!) , and you still need to keep 3-4 decoys with you. + the rangefinder is a very convenient thing for a beginner because without it, it’s simply unrealistic to understand how many meters to the target at first, and also at subsequent times - I use it regularly + you can put a mark on the map with a rangefinder (for example, you shot at an animal from a hundred meters, and it ran... you run to where it supposedly last I saw it and everything around was somehow unfamiliar and there were no traces... what should I do? And then I looked where the animal ran and put a mark with the rangefinder where I saw it... you calmly go to the marked place on the map).
- set of all decoys = 1152ems. they really made hunting easier and even made you a little lazy. heard the animal, beckoned and wait. Previously, you had to track the animal for a long time, then calculate its direction of movement, get close to it when choosing a place to shoot, take into account the direction of the wind... very difficult, but also very interesting. but in general, I can’t imagine my hunting without decoys. thanks to them, productivity increased by 2-3 times.
- set of clothes dock monsignor = 684ems set. It has become much easier to get close to animals (although this is important for me personally because I love bow hunting). For shotguns and rifles with optics, the clothing factor can generally be neglected and not be spent.
- disadvantages: unlike decoys, they are consumed (1 spray is designed for 50 uses) and you will have to buy them again all the time (1) - a full set of sprays costs $3.3, range of action 150m - decoy 220m (2), where you sprayed there the animal will walk (using a decoy you can “direct” the animal while moving) (3).
- The advantages include the fact that they last for 20 game minutes (decoys are no more than 10-11) (1) and the fact that they act continuously beckoning the animal (decoys only when you make a sound and it seems that the animal may be busy with something at this moment and listen to it; other animals that enter the zone 220 meters a minute later will not be lured either) (2).
generation of animals on the map / gameplay(mostly unofficial information from experienced hunters of the English-language forum, so everything described above is not a fact and may differ in reality, but still...). At least 200 animals appear on the map with you in different proportions. The sex ratio is 60/40 in favor of females. Trophy animals are distributed as follows: 25% low-value, 50% standard, 25% high-value (but not the fact that the maximum is possible) - this is confirmed by the developers only for male deer moving in groups. Animals do not appear twice in the same place, do not have specific routes, i.e. each time they appear in different places within their spawn zones (see), depending on the game start time, they choose one of three goals / needs - fat, watering, lying - and accordingly begin to move to the places of their satisfaction (confirmed by the developers - ! ). If you get an animal, a new one does not appear in return (!). You can hunt from 5 am to 7 pm (7 real hours), at 7 pm a new day starts at 5 am.
When do animals make sounds? Several factors must coincide:
- sound timer should end = 0 i.e. there is a period of time set randomly in duration (each time different within a certain range) after which some animal must make a sound.
- this animal must be in a calm state.
- must be motionless (do not follow the leader, do not eat, do not sleep)
- be the closest animal to the player (70% of the time).
skills. the game has RPG elements i.e. your character acquires certain gaming abilities (skills) as the game progresses. It develops in three directions:
- Weapon proficiency (for each weapon separately) - 20 levels. As the level increases, the weapon twitches less in your hands, you can hold your breath longer, and you can hold the bow in a taut position longer.
- tracking / stalking (separately for each species / animal) - 20 levels. the range of detection of traces, the accuracy of the huntermate’s determination of the segment (V) and the radius of the animal’s location, and the accuracy of the place where the sound from the animal comes from increases.

Your skill level is visible on your profile under the skills tab. it is calculated how many need to hit (namely hit the animal, not the number of animals caught) or detect animals to move to the next level. is calculated according to the formula: the required level * to the previous level * 7.5. so, to go to level 5 you need to get 5*4*7.5 = 150 animals, and to go to level 20: 20*19*7.5 = 2850 animals (!). with tracking everything is more complicated, we only know that the first three tracks of one animal add more to your skills than the subsequent ones.
what can you do in the game besides hunting?
- just a walk in the woods (great therapy before bed)
- photograph nature and animals
- play the game lane bandit on huntermate
- shoot at shooting ranges at hunting bases at skeet and targets
- collect mushrooms
Hunting is a foreign hobby for me. This is a whole culture, to access which you must have at least your grandfather’s gun and a thick mustache over the fireplace, and I don’t even have a fireplace, what are we talking about. I have never gotten closer to her than running errands for mushrooms in the Siberian forests and I am unlikely to ever get close for a number of reasons. One of them is theHunter: Call of the Wild.
The new iteration of the once free simulator offered a not too expensive and damn visually attractive way to get acquainted with the delights of hunting skill. According to the description, everything is the same minus the accompanying inconveniences. Sit in a soft chair with a tea at the ready and enjoy the process while your avatar fights off mosquitoes and wets his pants in the reeds. Perfect, isn't it?
Finally, we've arrived! As soon as you arrive at the place, your pocket radio begins to burst with voices, the most persistent of which advises you to take a walk around the area and find something to shoot. Then, as if on cue, a characteristic rustling sound is heard from the nearest clearing. A large animal, no less. Trying not to make too much noise, I get closer - and indeed: right in the center there is a bear, lonely trampling strange shapes on the grass.
So, now as taught. Take aim. Hold the breath. Slowly pull the trigger. Shot!..
...And nothing happens.
The brown tramp turns and freezes with a puzzled look on his face. Well, no, it was impossible to miss. It's just that the bullet didn't hit anything vital. This happens, for sure. Now, just a few more seconds - and you can collect the loot.
After three minutes of mutual staring, I finally decide to approach the stubborn victim - and discover that she died a long time ago, having forgotten to play the corresponding animation beforehand. And at a distance, it turns out, another bear was sitting and humbly watching all this, not afraid of either the roar of a rifle or a suddenly reclining relative. Hmm, that turned out to be awkward.
Well, yes, it is Not good stable simulation. The above case is not unique - many things fail here more often than is acceptable. There's nothing wrong with the animation's flaws, however, but the bugs in the animal's behavioral model blur the impression. Somehow you suddenly stop feeling like a seasoned hunter when coyotes literally get lost in three pine trees, and deer completely turn off their brains at the sight of the player. “Buy a decoy, otherwise you won’t achieve anything in life,” suggests a local expert, but the fauna, meanwhile, strenuously proves the opposite:
These issues aside, Call of the Wild does an excellent job of portraying hunting as a full-fledged craft. It’s not enough to learn to shoot accurately and run fast, this is no longer Counter-Strike - animals are smarter and more agile. You need to watch the direction of the wind so that your disgusting human smell does not blow into the wide moose nostrils; stay in the grass and, if possible, do not move; look for traces, wait at watering holes and favorite resting places; Finally, use bait. Perseverance, resourcefulness and attentiveness are more important than ever - and the higher the conditional level of the animal, the more effort will have to be made to catch it.
It’s especially nice that all this is available to any class of players. Beginners are supported by a detailed interface that will explain in time, help and highlight where necessary - it is absolutely impossible to get lost with such a system. A more experienced audience can easily turn off the unnecessary tinsel, because the game world is quite informative in itself, not least thanks to the amazing work with sound and graphical bells and whistles like trampled grass and foliage picked up by air currents.
In some story missions, you can't help but feel like you're playing Firewatch for nerds.
In general, there are no noticeable complaints about the sporting side of the issue: camping in the bushes for 20 minutes, chasing your overland Moby Dick, turned out to be surprisingly interesting. It is much more difficult to enjoy the actual shot. From murder.
Perhaps there is a little PETA activist growing in me, who tomorrow will feel the urge to pour blood on passers-by in fur coats, but even in its virtual manifestation, hunting carries some kind of repulsive emotional connotation. Call of the Wild invites you into a beautiful, peaceful world, but only to destroy its idyll. She rattles off hit statistics, savors the details of a shot through the intestine, revels in the bleeding and counts the seconds until the animal dies. Yes, everyone you meet here calls for the humaneness of the process, but somehow it doesn’t get any easier.
And before we get into conversations about animal husbandry and calls for veganism, let me clarify that this is too much for an interactive entertainment. A game that emphasizes the naturalness of the murder being committed does not allow you to treat yourself with the same carelessness with which you send tigers to the next world, say, in. And it can no longer be called entertainment in the full sense of the word.
Of course, no one forbids living in harmony with nature, but the means to make a pacifist’s leisure time exciting are desperately lacking. But the solution is right under the nose – or rather, in the player’s arsenal. Based on the camera, which in its current form simply replaces the screenshot button and is required for a couple of dreary tasks, it was possible to organize an entire sphere of virtual activity.
Why, for example, does the magic locker that exchanges money for weapons and ammunition not sell gadgets for photo hunting? I clicked the sparrows, earned money for a new lens with a crazy zoom, upgraded my stealth photography skills - and rushed to catch a herd of deer dancing around a yawning buffalo. There is no need to reinvent the wheel: the mechanics, right down to the shooting, are still the same, except that the click of the shutter does not burst your lungs. Well, just some kind of “Instagram” for naturalists would have to be added.
After all, the very nature of the game, fascinating and varied, asks for it. Whether it’s the sun’s rays breaking through majestic pine trees, raindrops beating on the surface of an ordinary swamp, or the moon hanging over the mountains - everything looks so beautiful that you want to create dozens of compositions, play with shutter speed, focus and filters in pursuit of the perfect frame. But this is not provided. Even the seedy “Ansel” from NVIDIA was not found.
Its beauty, however, the engine
In order to hunt in Evergreen, you first need to make sure that your computer meets the minimum system requirements:
Anyway
you will need a constant connection to the Internet (if the connection is lost, the game freezes and waits for the connection to be restored), a screen with a minimum resolution of 1024x768, you must have a video card that supports Shader Model 3.0 (therefore, most likely the game will not run on laptops with Intel video cards) and my advice - it is best to play with headphones to exclude third-party noises and sounds of the offline world, which can easily prevent you from hearing the sound of the footsteps of an approaching animal.
for online games
requires a dual-core 2GHz processor, 2GB of RAM and an NVidia 8 series (8800 or better) or ATI Radeon HD 2000 series (2400 or better) video card with 256MB of memory (for low and medium graphics) and 512-768MB (for high graphics, depending depending on the number of players), Internet speed 512Kb/sec. in both directions for a network game client and 1-2Mb/sec. for the creator of an online game. At the same time, the creator of the game must ensure a frame rate of at least 25-30 frames per second, otherwise the physics in the game may malfunction.
for single player:
A Pentium 4 processor (3GHz), 2GB RAM, an NVidia 7 series (7600 or better) or ATI X1900 (or better) video card with 256MB of memory (for low and medium graphics) and 512MB (for high) is suitable.
Next, you need to go through a short registration procedure on the website www.thehunter.com, create your account and your character. If the information on your personal web page is displayed in a language unknown to you, you need to click on the gear at the top right, select language and in the window that opens, change the language to Russian. Not everything has been translated yet, but a lot has already been translated. then you need to go to the “download” section, download the launcher (about 18MB) and install it. after installing the launcher, you will be prompted to immediately start downloading and installing the game (about 1.5 GB), but you can install it later; when you start the first hunt, the launcher will independently check for updates and download all the necessary game files.
The game is always launched via an Internet browser from your game account. To start a hunt, you need to press the orange “hunt” button and select one of the options for starting the game. you have two options for starting the game out of three available. the first is to create a single-player game, the second is to join a multiplayer game (if the creator has allowed players with a guest license to join the game and/or has not set a password), the third option is to create a multiplayer game yourself, which is only available to subscribers (members).
To start a single-player game, you need to select a reserve, one of the bases to start, the start time of the hunt and click “start game”. The launcher window will automatically open, which will download and install the game upon first launch. on subsequent launches it will only check for updates and automatically download and install them. I would like to draw your attention to the gear in the upper right corner of the launcher - here you can set all the necessary graphics settings. After checking and installing all the updates, an orange “start” button will appear in the lower right corner of the launcher - feel free to click, the game will start.
Finally, I want to give a few tips that will solve seventy percent of your first questions:
- spend 30-40 minutes and study your personal web page, interface, structure, there is a lot of information there, poke around everywhere, go to your profile (to do this you need to click your avatar with a nickname in the upper right corner), look at the profile tabs.
- see what the profiles of other players look like. To do this, you can click on the “friends” icon in the upper left corner and enter any letter in the search window - a list of players whose nicknames begin with this letter will appear, click on any and you will be taken to his profile, look at his statistics, skills, achievements and etc. even better - go to the leaderboards and there click on the players’ nicknames and get to their profiles.
- take four short training courses. Everything there is accessible and understandable in Russian. You can get into the training through a pop-up window by hovering over the orange “hunting” button on the main page of your account.
- add friends by clicking "send friend request". You can send messages to friends through the site; to do this, click the “letters” icon next to the “friends” icon in the upper left corner. Considering that you will be primarily interested in Russian-speaking members of the gaming community, you can start with me, my nickname is ohotnikna. then you can look at my list of friends in my profile and add them to yourself (note that not all Russian speakers are there).
The best and most differs significantly from its predecessor in the direction of simpler and easier gameplay. However, this too has its difficulties.
will give some tips for beginners on completing this game.

How to hunt and find animals faster?
Look for animals using illuminated tracks. As soon as you find someone’s tracks, start following them (they are highlighted in a separate color from the other tracks) – you will hear the cry of the animal – this means that the animal is nearby, but it is not running away from us yet. After the first cry, we sit down and slowly continue to follow the tracks. This way you will very soon get out into the “operational space”, from where you can safely shoot at your target.
How to earn more money and experience in the game?
The new game theHunter: Call of the Wild is very different from the classic version. The main point is the fact that you constantly do not have enough resources, so you will have to kill absolutely everyone, because this is experience and this is money.
Use binoculars - they will show the distance to the target in the center of the screen.
How to open a card?
The game in this regard is reminiscent of Far Cry - you need to get to the towers and complete tasks to open the nearby territory.
How to photograph an animal?
To do this, use the P key. And a tip - it’s better to take pictures from the side.
How to add ammo to inventory?
Drag them from the warehouse to the backpack.
How to catch fish in the game?
In the game, if you look closely at the river, you can see a lot of fish. But you can't catch them here.
How to make ambushes in the game?
The easiest option is to find a place of slaughtered herbivores - for example, rabbits, and sit in them - some predators will definitely come to this place.
