(State Central Concert Hall "Russia"), as part of a major (first in 2017) tournament of the promotion company "World of Boxing". The name of Russian Knight's opponent has not yet been announced. Povetkin fought his last fight in December 2016, knocking out Frenchman Joan Duhaupt.
History of doping
The name of Alexander Povetkin has recently been increasingly mentioned in the context of doping stories, which entails a lot of negativity from ordinary people. However, it is worth recalling that, therefore, it is premature to hang labels.
And it all started on the morning of December 17, on the day of the fight for the WBC interim world title between Povetkin and Stiverne. At that moment, when it seemed that nothing could interfere with the long-awaited fight, a notification came from the WBC office about a positive doping test for the Russian boxer.
WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman tweeted: “WADA has notified the WBC that Povetkin tested positive for the banned substance ostarine. We will sort everything out soon." As a result, the WBC withdrew its sanction for the Povetkin-Stiverne fight. Thus, the interim world title is no longer on the line in this fight.
Moreover, Stiverne completely refused to hold this fight, and Joan Duopa was called to replace him, who had a rating fight with Povetkin. The strong Frenchman lasted until the sixth round, and then was knocked out. After the fight, Povetkin expressed respect for his replacement opponent and spoke about the doping story. According to the Russian, he has no idea how the prohibited drug ended up in his body. Moreover, the official reports included a truly microscopic dose (only 20 picograms).
At the same time, two out of three samples turned out to be clean, which also indicates unsystematic use of the drug. In other words, the Russian athlete certainly did not take prohibited substances during the preparation for the fight with Stiverne.
Court. coming
The situation is aggravated by the fact that the story of doping is repeated twice. In May, Povetkin was caught using meldonium, which resulted in a lengthy lawsuit with the current WBC champion, American Deontay Wilder, a fight with which was canceled according to a similar scenario, after which Wilder and Lou DiBella’s promotion company DiBella Entertainment filed a lawsuit against the Russian. Povetkin and his team filed a counterclaim in which they accused the American side of spreading false accusations that discredited the fighter’s reputation.
And so far the situation is such that the jury ruled that Povetkin took meldonium after it was banned (the ban came into force on January 1, 2016). Consequently, the Russian side lost the first instance.
As a result, the World Boxing Council decided to suspend Povetkin indefinitely for repeated violations of anti-doping rules and fined him $250 thousand. “In accordance with the decision of the WBC dated August 17, 2016, Mr. Povetkin should be suspended from participation in any fights under the auspices of the WBC on indefinite period. Povetkin must pay a fine of $250 thousand to the WBC,” the report says.
Who is the opponent and what version?
Considering the fact that four boxing federations immediately excluded Povetkin from their rankings, three world ones (the World Boxing Council (WBC), the International Boxing Federation (IBF) and the World Boxing Organization (WBO) refused to return the athlete to their ranking, which he left earlier) , as well as the European Boxing Council (EBU). Therefore, the Russian fighter has little choice, and, most likely, he will move along the line of the oldest boxing organization - the WBA.
Povetkin was already a champion according to the World Boxing Association. Having won the vacant title in a fight against Ruslan Chagaev from Uzbekistan in August 2011, Povetkin made four successful defenses (Boswell, Hook, Rahman, Wawrzyk), losing it in a fight with Ukrainian Wladimir Klitschko in October 2013 (Klitschko was the super champion at that time) .
At the moment, Briton Anthony Joshua and Vladimir Klitschko are preparing to compete for the WBA heavyweight champion title (another Briton Tyson Fury, having defeated Klitschko Jr., decided to retire, thus the belt became vacant). Therefore, the prospects that open up for Povetkin, who is aiming for the championship, are very good. The top 5 of the WBA absolute division now looks like this: Luis Ortiz, Vladimir Klitschko, Alexander Ustinov, Shannon Briggs, Fres Oquendo. Perhaps among these names there is also a future rival of the Russian fighter.
In the end, no one canceled Povektin’s return to the ratings of the above organizations. As Alexander’s former colleague, ex-WBA champion and now State Duma deputy Nikolai Valuev rightly noted, it all comes down to money. Boxing is a business, so as soon as big money is on the line, many of those who have turned their backs will deign to turn around. “I see no obstacles for Alexander to return to his former positions. What will stop him? Absence from WBC and IBF rankings? Just as they were taken out of the ratings, they will be brought back. This is professional boxing - as soon as a large sum is at stake, you will see that everything will return to normal. I won’t say what kind of fight Povetkin needs now, I can’t even imagine it. There are a number of rivals who are afraid of Sasha, they sing a song about doping and can do this endlessly,” Valuev said.
Which other fighters will perform on July 1?
As part of the preliminary fights, former IBF/IBO light welterweight world champion Eduard Troyanovsky will enter the ring. The name of his opponent is still unknown. Many expected to see his rematch with Julius Indongo (21-0-0, 11 KO). However, the Russian’s offender (Troyanovsky suffered his only defeat at the hands of a fighter from Namibia, losing by a heavy knockout in the first round, losing his championship belts) went to visit WBA champion Scot Ricky Burns (41-5-1, 14 KO). Their unification fight will take place on April 15 in Glasgow. That is why the idea of immediate revenge is illusory even theoretically. On the other hand, having an intermediate fight and then going to fight for the title is also an excellent prospect for Troy.
Hot Russian prospects who have not known defeat in the professional ring: cruisers Alexey Papin and Rashid Kodzoev, featherweight Valery Tretyakov and heavyweight Andrey Afonin will hold their next rating fights. The winner of the reality show “Fight in the Big City” Geogriy Chelokhsaev will make his debut under the auspices of the “World of Boxing” company (in addition to the main prize of the show - an apartment in the Moscow region - the fighter received a contract with the promotion company of Andrei Ryabinsky).
Every year the film industry develops at tremendous speed, creating real masterpieces for audiences. It seems that just recently, dolls were used for filming to replace humans in many difficult moments. Today, thanks to modern computer graphics, it is possible to create colorful special effects, thanks to which genres such as science fiction and action films have rapidly moved forward. The picture looks so realistic that it can capture the attention of any film lover.
What other advantages do developing technologies provide? Every day there are different video formats that provide better quality. HD 720 is no longer a new product; it is noticeably replaced by 1080 pixel resolution. This allows you to watch movies online even on weaker PCs or mobile devices. The struggle does not end there; programmers are right now trying to create a 3-D movie that users can enjoy for free while sitting at home with a cup of tea. But apparently, such heights are still far away.

“I would like to thank everyone for their support, I really need it. I knew that this was a strong opponent who would not give up easily. Something didn’t work out, but, probably, this fight had to go like this in order to gain some experience. I grow up with such opponents. What's next? I'll have to ask my manager. I have great feelings, this fight was necessary, I needed to catch my breath for 12 rounds. We will move on, correct mistakes, become stronger,” Povetkin said immediately after the end of the fight.
Povetkin wins by unanimous decision 120:109, 120:108.

Let us remember that Povetkin had his previous fight in December in Yekaterinburg, knocking out the Frenchman Joan Duhaup, who replaced the Canadian Bermane Stiverne. Then, on the day of the fight, it became known that one of the Russian’s doping tests before the fight for the interim WBC title against Stiverne showed the presence of a small amount of the prohibited substance ostarine (20 picograms). The athlete's other two samples turned out to be clean.
A doping investigation is currently underway and will be completed soon.
