Plasma gun. Plasma weapons for the domestic missile defense system
Before watching this movie, I thought that plasma weapons were pure fantasy of science fiction writers and computer game developers. Or, at best, a very distant future, that it will appear, somewhere, at the same time as spaceships.
However, this is not so. And as far as I understand, all data on this type of weapon is strictly classified. And what leaks into the open media is the tip of the iceberg, if not a damaged phone. And there is a very good explanation for this. Possession of such weapons by any country will make it a clear and unconditional leader in the military sphere. Just as the atomic bomb once made the US leader. As far as I understand, our Shkval missile-torpedo is already one of the types of plasma weapons, and the next ones are in line. So, Russians, keep your fingers crossed so that all this does not turn out to be just another accordion.
After watching the film, by the way, I came across an article - "Forecast for the development of plasma weapons" which is, so to speak. commentary on the film. I think it will be interesting to many.
Two days ago (on the night from 02/06/07 to 02/07/07) on Channel One, a truly sensational program “Plasma Attack” was shown as part of the “Strike Force” series, dedicated to previously classified pages from the history of the development of domestic weapons. So, in the above-mentioned program “Plasma Attack,” among other things, it was about the top-secret Soviet program to create a missile defense using plasma weapons.
In addition, the topic of the imminent introduction into service of the Russian army of so-called hypersonic strategic cruise missiles, which will use the plasma coating effect, allowing these objects to reach a speed of 4000-5000 m/sec in the earth’s atmosphere, was again discussed. Your humble servant wrote about this in his publication “Once again about Putin’s new weapon.”
And there was also a thesis that Russian 5th generation fighters also plan to use plasma coating technology for the airframe, which will allow it to fly at hypersonic speeds and at the same time remain a super-maneuverable aircraft. That is, the new Russian fighter, which should make its first flight in 2009, will not even be 5-generation, but 5+ generation.
And at the very beginning, the host of the program showed an interesting trick - shooting something similar to ball lightning from a small device that more closely resembled a children's cube, and called this device a “plasma blaster.”
- Although the technology of using plasmoids against intercontinental missile blocks actually turned out to be a dead-end direction, which was already understood before the collapse of the USSR, and must still be understood in the United States, which is actively experimenting with the same direction at its Kharp base, effective anti-missile weapons will be created precisely with the use of plasma technologies.
The main mistake of the Soviet developers of missile defense on plasmoids was that they created plasmoids in ground-based installations using MHD generators, and then through an ionized atmospheric channel created using a laser beam, they tried to deliver them to a certain height along the course of the ballistic trajectory of an intercontinental warhead rockets. And they constantly lacked the power of this very ground-based installation.
Meanwhile, the warhead of an intercontinental missile, entering the dense layers of the atmosphere at speeds close to the first cosmic speed, is itself enveloped in a plasma cloud. Therefore, in order to influence an intercontinental warhead with a plasma weapon - from a sharp change in the flight path, by sharply changing the speed of the warhead, to the destruction of this very warhead by creating completely different aerodynamic flight conditions, you just need to “pump up” the already existing plasma cloud around the intercontinental warhead that has entered the dense layers warheads.
The “pumping” of the above-mentioned plasma cloud will be carried out by two ionized channels created by two powerful lasers operating in the ultraviolet radiation spectrum. This technology is described in my previous forecast, “Jules Verne's Last Unrealized Vision.”
And since the formation of a plasma cloud around an intercontinental warhead flying towards a target is inevitable - due to its speed and the properties of the earth’s atmosphere, plasma technologies will provide almost 100% reliable missile defense in this sector of missile weapons.
- Although hypersonic intercontinental cruise missiles are now positioned as practically invulnerable weapons for existing and future missile defense, in fact they will be very vulnerable to missile defense using plasma technologies. It's all about the same plasma coatings of hypersonic intercontinental missiles, allowing them to gain crazy speeds and be super-maneuverable - “pumping up” these same plasma coatings from the outside using two ionized channels. ultraviolet lasers pierced into the atmosphere will negate all these technological advantages and even threaten their destruction.
- Everything said in paragraph 2 is sufficiently consistent with the creation of weapons against 5+ generation fighters that will use plasma coating of the airframe.
- But the “plasma blaster” has apparently already been created. And, moreover, it has already passed combat tests in real conditions.
The author of these lines is referring to the very incomprehensible story of the elimination of the former “vice-president” of Ichkeria Zelemkhan Yandarbiev in one of the Persian Gulf states in early 2004. Then Yandarbiev died as a result of the explosion of his jeep in which he was. Security officers of the Russian embassy in this country were arrested in this case. At the same time, American intelligence services gave a tip to these employees. After interrogations with partiality (torture), Russian security officers of the Russian embassy confessed and were sentenced to long prison terms. But Russia used all its influence to get these employees to serve their sentences in Russian prisons, and when they were taken to Moscow on a plane specially sent for them, they were greeted as heroes with a red carpet and, naturally, they did not go to any prisons , simply disappearing into the vastness of Russia.
What kind of honors are there for failed agents? And why did the American intelligence services so brazenly and openly interfere in the activities of their partners in the “anti-terrorist coalition”?
Is it because the aforementioned agents conducted combat tests of a “plasma blaster” - firing it from a certain distance into the gas tank of Yandarbiev’s jeep, eliminating the “spiritual father” of the terrorist attack in the theater center on Dubrovka, which took place at the end of October 2002? And, most importantly, these agents did not allow the top-secret “plasma blaster” to fall into the hands of the American intelligence services, claiming to the investigation that Yandarbiev was eliminated using a trivial explosive device, leaving our “partners” in the “anti-terrorist coalition” in the dust?

The term “new plasma weapon” has recently been increasingly exaggerated by various media. The information coming in is contradictory. This is understandable: projects in various countries are only at the development stage. It is also undeniable that the most advanced weapon is one about which the intended enemy knows practically nothing, and then its use allows one to achieve an even greater effect. What exactly is a plasma weapon? The answer to this question can only be given by its use (of course, if such a weapon exists) in a real combat situation. What is known about modern developments of plasma weapons in the world? This will be discussed further in the article.
The influence of plasma weapons on modern culture
Modern computer games and films attempt to imagine new types of weapons that humanity may face in future conflicts. One such attempt is the famous computer game "Fallout". Plasma weapons, laser carbines, nuclear mini-charges - this is not the entire list of the arsenal that, according to the developers, awaits humanity in an alternative Universe that has survived a nuclear war. How have modern developments of plasma weapons come closer to the ideas of science fiction writers and futurologists? How close are we to creating a means of destroying such destructive power? In order to answer such questions, it is necessary to take an excursion into history, from the discovery and creation of plasma weapons to promising developments by scientists around the world.
The history of plasma weapons
In 1923, American scientists Langmuir and Tonsk proposed to designate a new form of existence of matter at 10,000 degrees, which they called plasma. The upper layer of the atmosphere (ionosphere) consists entirely of plasma.
Development of plasma weapons in the USSR
In the mid-50s, a toroidal chamber with a magnetic coil was created in the USSR to study issues of physical thermonuclear fusion. The prominent Soviet scientist Pyotr Leonidovich Kapitsa worked on the creation of a fundamentally new energy source. In 1964, young Soviet scientists, among whom was Valentina Nikolaeva, created the “Dream” project, which involved defeating ballistic missiles using plasma formations. When colliding with an object, the plasmoid should act on the principle of a uranium projectile, releasing colossal energy during the explosion.
According to the inventors, a plasma weapon is a system consisting of a plasmoid (a weapon) and its triggering device (a pulsed magnetic hydrodynamic (MHD) generator). The generator accelerates the plasma in a magnetic field to the speed of light and sets its direction of movement. Flight correction is made by laser.
The approximate time of creation is 1970. The main goal is the development of a pulse-magnetic hydrodynamic generator, with the help of which it was possible to create plasmoids (or ball lightning) to destroy air targets of the alleged aggressor. In 1974, the open resonator DOR2 began operation, with the help of which controlled artificial ball lightning was created. Ionized gas, or plasma, is formed from neutral atoms and molecules and charged particles, ions and electrons. We can mention the creation of the secret station “Surana”, built near Nizhny Novgorod. Soviet scientist Avramenko achieved amazing results in the study of ionized clouds. Attempts have even been made to use these developments in modern aircraft construction. The dream of aircraft manufacturers is to surround the aircraft with plasma to reduce air resistance and increase speed tenfold. Little is known about the prospects for such developments for obvious reasons.
Ideas of plasma weapons in modern Russia
After the collapse of the USSR, funding for the development of plasma weapons in Russia ceased, but this does not mean that Russian scientists stopped further research. The work was carried out with sheer enthusiasm. New developments in Russian plasma weapons began against the backdrop of a worsening global political situation. The US withdrawal from the ABM Treaty and the strengthening of the NATO bloc near Russian borders spurred the country's leadership to reconsider its defense strategy. Recent statements by American President Donald Trump about the uncompromising rearmament of the US army also do not help reduce tension in relations between Russia and the West.
In the fall of 2017, President V.V. Putin will review the state arms program for 2018-2025. It mentions weapons based on “new physical principles.” Most likely, in the near future there will be clarity on the issue of the use of plasma weapons in modern society. If we talk about the latest developments in Russia, mysteries and speculation surround this topic. There are snippets of rumors about some project using a plasma shield that can protect the peaceful skies of Russia.
It is interesting to remember Boris Yeltsin’s meeting with the Americans in Vancouver in 1993. The Russian side proposed to conduct joint tests of global missile defense based on Russian plasma weapons near the Kwajalein Atoll. The inventor of plasma weapons, Rimily Avramenko, briefly mentioned the prospects for putting into operation a model of this development. It would benefit not only the military: it could be used to destroy space debris or clean up ozone holes. But, unfortunately, this project did not come to fruition.
Aspirations and hopes associated with plasma
Plasma opens up many prospects not only in the military sphere. The development of plasma generators makes it possible to convert equipment to almost any fuel without compromising quality.
The development of plasma technologies can provide impetus for further development of technological progress.
Development of plasma technologies in the USA
Plasma weapons are being developed all over the world, and the United States is no exception. A striking example can be considered in 1989, as part of the Strategic Defense Initiative, the launch into space of a prototype beam weapon, which was supposed to be able to generate neutral hydrogen atoms and thereby shoot down Soviet missiles. The “success” of this weapon is evidenced by the fact that it is not in service, but in the Space Museum in Washington. The HAARP station for active high-frequency research of the ionosphere is also an attempt to study and create plasma weapons. Railguns, advertised with fanfare, turned out to be another bluff. In 2016, the news feed sometimes featured reports of attempts by the US military to test non-lethal plasma weapons. Thus, it is clear that modern developments of plasma weapons are being carried out all over the world, funds are allocated for them and the best minds of mankind are struggling to conquer plasma.
Description of the stated general operating principles
One can only guess about the technical characteristics of plasma weapons due to the secrecy of information. If we talk about plasmoids, then this is plasma in a magnetic field created using an MHD generator and having the speed of light in directional motion. On the screens of popular television programs, very interesting characteristics are sometimes mentioned: possible dimensions, internal energy and lifetime of the plasmoid.
According to some scientists, the average temperature on earth has risen, and at this rate, the world could suffer catastrophes on a planetary scale, expressed in floods, droughts, hurricanes, and lack of drinking water. Such changes may well be provoked by testing of plasma weapons. Its development in the military sphere makes it possible not only to intercept missiles, but also to psychotronically influence masses of people and change the climate. The most powerful radar station, HAARP, is also credited with the ability to influence the weather. However, these are only conjectures and conjectures, since no one has officially recognized the fact of having such weapons.
Plasma invisibility caps
In modern combat, the main emphasis is on surprise in delivering a strike. But at the same time, unmasking inevitably occurs. Soviet scientists thought about this problem, proposing a rather original way of hiding equipment from electronic detection systems. The idea was to equip aircraft with special plasma generators. Such aircraft could pass through dense layers of the atmosphere without burning out, reaching the ground in a matter of seconds, just like ballistic missiles.
Plasma has another interesting property: it dampens electromagnetic pulses in all ranges. It seemed that the ideal means of disguise had been found. The first tests were carried out on the MiG-29 fighter, but the results were unsatisfactory. The plasma interfered with the operation of on-board computers. As a result, it was decided to cover only the parts of the structure that were most vulnerable to radar. This technology was used on the Tu-160 strategic bomber.
Turkish plasma weapons
In 2013, the development of combat lasers for the Turkish navy was announced to the world. More than $50 million is allocated for the six-year project. Two models of combat lasers are announced. In 2015, laboratory tests were successfully completed: a target on a moving platform was hit. It was announced that the prospects for new weapons have no analogues in the world. This weapon is capable of stopping a nuclear bomb. The Turkish population itself could not resist sarcasm about the news boom, and both the military and the creators of the “miracle weapon” got it. We can only say with complete confidence that the development of modern and promising types of weapons is carried out not only by superpowers with weighty “nuclear arguments.”
Conclusion
Modern developments of plasma weapons and other new types of weapons with colossal destructive power do not answer the question of what the future will be like on planet Earth. Perhaps this research will open Pandora's box. The prospects opening up in connection with the development of new technologies also conceal many dangers for all humanity. The question is not whether plasma weapons, combat lasers and many other things that at first glance seem to be the figment of the imagination of science fiction writers will be created, but when this will happen. The events of recent years (the introduction of sanctions and the deterioration of the international situation) are the trigger for the restart of the Cold War, which, in turn, is the most important factor in the emergence of even more destructive types of weapons.
In the meantime, the world is divided into skeptics and optimists. Fierce disputes are ongoing, which can only be resolved by the appearance or absence of weapons operating “on new physical principles” (for the defense industry). However, statements from high-ranking officials indicate that there is no smoke without fire, and in the future, humanity will face many amazing discoveries.
Inexplicably frequent natural disasters, uncharacteristic changes in temperature for a particular area, inexplicable behavior of people: mass psychosis and depression, large-scale conflicts suggest the use of climate and psychotropic weapons.
According to the manager Laboratory of Global Energy Problems of the Moscow Energy Institute, Professor Vladimir Klimenko, the average temperature on Earth rose by 0.7-0.8 °C compared to the end of the 19th century. Much of the warming has occurred since 1970. This is a very significant amount. At this rate of warming, in the coming decades humanity will face catastrophic climate changes: flooding of coastal cities and hurricanes, drought and lack of drinking water. In particular, such a scenario is provoked by the testing of plasma weapons. The basis for the development of plasma weapons was the unique characteristics of ball lightning, the essence of which remains a mystery to this day. Ball lightning is a plasma formation characterized by amazing properties. One of these properties is the destructive energy of ball lightning, which led the military to the idea of the possibility of creating plasma weapons (plasma is a fully or partially ionized gas). Military installations for generating plasma formations similar to ball lightning have enormous capabilities: from intercepting missiles, to psychotropic effects on people and changing the Earth's climate. Therefore, secret work in this direction is being actively carried out by the United States and Russia.
Development of psychotropic weapons in Russia
One of the developers of psychotropic and climatic weapons, Yuri Yuryevich Leonov, agreed to tell more about plasma devices for the Korrespondent newspaper: “Almost everything you talked about, what people have been complaining about lately, actually exists and is actively being developed by Russian security agencies. I must report that in the hands of the authorities this weapon looks very scary. Similar developments were carried out in the Soviet Union, but they had a much lower level of technological development. At that time, psychotropic weapons could under no circumstances be used against the people, against prominent political figures. Today we can confidently say that the developments in question are actually existing neurophysical (psychotropic) weapons and they are actively used. Today's technological capabilities make it possible to operate with the human psyche and the motivation of human actions in a much wider range. Devices have been created that create waves at frequencies that allow more complex mental reactions to be varied. Such devices are capable of operating at a very long distance, that is, the irradiator can be half a kilometer away from you, it can penetrate concrete barriers, and so on.
US climate weapons: secret station HAARR
In 1992, construction of a powerful radar station began in Alaska, 450 kilometers from Anchorage. The facility under construction is an antenna field with an area of more than 13 hectares. The plan calls for 180 special antennas. The station received the abbreviated name HAARP - High-Frequency Active Auroral Research Program. The project is presented as a research project, but it is being implemented in the interests of the US Air Force and Navy in conditions of deep secrecy. Civilian scientists are not allowed to see it. There is evidence that in this way it is possible to change, say, the wind rose at high altitudes. This means that “Harp” is capable of influencing the weather.” The least it can do is disrupt radio communications over large areas, significantly degrade the accuracy of satellite navigation, and “blind” radars, including early and long-range detection and warning systems, missile defense systems and Air defense. The pulsed impact of the beam reflected from the auroral region will cause failures and accidents in the power grids of entire regions.
It should be noted that infrasonic waves have a depressing effect on the human psyche. They are also reflected by the auroral region and can plunge an entire city into a state of depression. Heating of certain areas of the atmosphere can lead to serious climate changes and, as a result, cause tornadoes, drought or floods. It is possible that increased exposure to radio waves will have a negative impact on wildlife, including humans. With the help of the Harp system, a group of military men can bring the economy of an entire state to its knees within a few years. And no one will understand anything. Military experts believe that the Harp can be used as a plasma weapon. Its radiation may be enough to create plasma lattices in the atmosphere that can destroy airplanes and missiles.
What is the danger of using climate weapons?
What could happen if Harp pulses start affecting the atmosphere? Dr. Rosalie Bertel (Canada), who studies the impact of war on ecosystems, believes that we are dealing with a climate weapon with potentially catastrophic consequences. Firstly, active disturbance of the ionosphere can cause so-called electron showers. This, in turn, may lead to a change in the electric potential of the poles and a subsequent displacement of the Earth's magnetic pole. The planet will “turn over”, and where the North Pole will end up is anyone’s guess. Secondly, a surge in global warming with heating by reflected waves of individual areas of the circumpolar lands with hydrocarbon deposits can cause their release. The escaping jets of gas can change the spectrum of the atmosphere, causing global cooling. Thirdly, there may be destruction of the ozone layer and unpredictable climate change across entire continents. Initially, the goals of the experiments were to increase radio communication capabilities by locally changing the ionosphere. At the same time, the effects of interaction of plasma formations with the ionosphere were obtained, which led to the development of plasma climatic and psychotropic weapons.
The nature of the impact of climate weapons
The Secret Services do not limit themselves to experimenting with stations. They already have specific types of weapons in their arsenal, which are actively used. Based on the nature of their impact, they are divided into:
Hydrospheric - a climate weapon that uses known hydrophysical phenomena initiated artificially as a damaging factor - tsunamis, underwater turbidity and mudflows, gas hydrate eruptions, etc. Only a few “combined” methods can be considered sufficiently “apocalyptic”. For example: an under-ice detonation of a “thermal” thermonuclear charge in the area of large ice masses, deposits of bottom gas hydrates and oil and gas layers, which should cause not only the melting of large masses of ice, but also an “underwater fire” such as the internal combustion of peat layers.
Lithospheric - a climate weapon that uses geophysical phenomena caused artificially as a damaging factor: earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, lithospheric shifts, crustal subsidence, faults, horsts, faults, tsunamis.
Magnetospheric climatic and psychotropic weapons work on the laser principle. A “directional magnetic storm” is created - electronic equipment and automation fail, people lose control over themselves.
The massive use of plasma weapons is quite difficult to hide, since it is accompanied by characteristic signs (aurora).
Another consequence of the use of this type of psychotropic and climatic weapons is the formation in the atmosphere of a channel through which, following the “combat plasmoids,” external radiation begins, which in itself is very dangerous.
These are the types of climate and psychotropic weapons that can be considered “apocalyptic.” It should be noted that the division of plasma weapons into psychotropic and climatic is very relative, since the principle of its operation allows it to be used in both one and the other direction. Only Russia and the USA possess these technologies. The very fact of the presence of such weapons has not yet been officially recognized by any country.
Plasmoid - plasma clot, limited configuration of magnetic fields and plasma
Nikola Tesla produced spherical plasmoids on a resonant transformer using high-voltage discharges.
Experiment with heating the atmosphere
In the USA, tests of an installation are planned, which can be considered as a prototype of plasma and climate control. For the Earth, this could turn into a disaster.
Background
In the late 1980s, Mikhail Gorbachev proposed to US President Ronald Reagan, as a sign of goodwill, reconciliation and mutual trust, to conduct a joint experiment - testing plasma weapons. It was proposed to chip in and jointly build a complex of radiating antennas at a test site in Siberia. But Reagan refused, and all mention of plasma weapons disappeared from the pages of the media.
Secret object
In 1992, in Alaska, 450 kilometers from Anchorage in the town of Gakona, construction began on a powerful radar station. In a deserted valley, covered by mountains, among the taiga, a gigantic building of a diesel power plant appeared with Pentagon money, and not far from it, the installation of 24-meter-high radiating antennas began. The antenna field and the power plant were connected by a straight, arrow-like section of a wide highway used as a runway. Deutsche Welle correspondent Vitaly Volkov provided some details in his report: “The facility being built in the snows of Alaska is a huge antenna field with a total area of more than 13 hectares. Of the 180 antennas provided for in the plan, 48 are already functioning.
The station received the abbreviated name HAARP - High Frequency Active Auroral Research Program (Harp). The radiating power of the system is 3.5 megawatts, and antennas aimed at the zenith make it possible to focus pulses of short-wave radiation on individual sections of the ionosphere and heat them to form high-temperature plasma. The project is presented as a research project, but it is being implemented in the interests of the US Air Force and Navy in conditions of deep secrecy. Civilian scientists are not allowed to see it.
Geophysical weapons
The developer of the principle of heating the ionosphere, Bernard Eastlund, admits: “There is evidence that in this way it is possible to change, say, the wind rose at high altitudes. This means that Harp is capable of influencing the weather to some extent.” But the capabilities of the Harp system are easy to imagine if we remember the magnetic storms caused by solar flares. In essence, "Harp" does the same thing, but in certain areas of the atmosphere and the earth's surface. And the power of its radiation is many times higher than that of the sun. Accordingly, the damage caused will also be tens and hundreds of times greater.
The least it can do is disrupt radio communications over large areas, significantly degrade the accuracy of satellite navigation, and “blind” radars, including early and long-range detection and warning systems, missile defense and air defense systems. The pulsed impact of the beam reflected from the auroral region will cause failures and accidents in the power grids of entire regions. By the way, on days of solar flares, the accident rate increases several times - this confirms the possibility of its artificial increase.
Even a fairly weak energy impact can have a destructive effect. Electric fields and various electromagnetic processes will appear on gas and oil pipeline lines that can accelerate corrosion and lead to accidents.
What will happen to an airplane caught in such a powerful radio beam? All on-board electronic equipment will instantly fail or at least “go crazy” for a while. The same thing can happen with a rocket. The reflected impulse can be sent to both a warship and a submarine. Some of the energy will be absorbed by the atmosphere and water, but even if 10% of 3.5 MW reaches the target, it is unknown how equipment and people will behave.
It is worth remembering that infrasound waves, that is, ultra-low frequencies, have a depressing effect on the human psyche. They are also reflected by the auroral region and can plunge an entire city into a state of depression. Heating of certain areas of the atmosphere can lead to serious climate changes and, as a result, cause tornadoes, drought or flooding.
Its radiation may be enough to create so-called plasma lattices in the atmosphere, in which aircraft and missiles will be destroyed. In fact, this is an anti-missile weapon based on new physical principles. And in this light, President Bush's December statement about withdrawing from the ABM Treaty appears completely differently. In six months, that is, in June of this year, the agreement will cease to exist, and at the same time tests of the Harp system will begin. Some experts of the Russian Ministry of Defense believe that it is “Harp” that will become a key component of the US national missile defense system, and the ongoing tests of interceptor missiles are nothing more than a method of disinformation. After all, the United States withdrew from the ABM Treaty without having not only a serial anti-missile system, but even a prototype of one. Maybe they just don’t need it when plasma anti-missile weapons are about to go into operation?
Global threat
The operating principle of long-distance tropospheric communication is also based on the reflection of a narrow radio beam from the atmospheric layer. Technicians from these stations say that a bird exposed to the radiation of the transmitter dies in flight. The effect is like in a microwave oven. What could happen if powerful Harp pulses begin to heat up the atmosphere? Renowned scientist Dr. Rosalie Bertel (Canada), who studies the impact of war on ecosystems, believes that we are dealing with an integral weapon with potentially catastrophic environmental consequences.
Active disturbance of the ionosphere can cause the release of huge masses of free electrons, the so-called electron showers. This, in turn, may lead to a change in the electric potential of the poles and a subsequent displacement of the Earth's magnetic pole. The planet will “turn over”, and where the North Pole will end up is anyone’s guess.
There are other threats: a surge in global warming, heating by reflected waves of certain areas of the polar lands with deposits of hydrocarbons, natural gas, in other words. The escaping jets of gas can change the spectrum of the atmosphere and, on the contrary, cause global cooling. Possible destruction of the ozone layer and unpredictable climate change across entire continents.
A little physics
The term “auroral region” is often translated as “northern lights.” But this is not entirely accurate. In the polar regions of the Earth at high altitudes in the ionosphere there are irregularities called auroral. These are excited gas ions united into a kind of plasma ropes stretched along the lines of force of the Earth's magnetic field. They are several tens of meters long and only about 10 centimeters thick. The reasons for the emergence of these structures and their physical essence have not yet been studied. During periods of solar storms, the number of auroral structures heated to the point of glowing rapidly increases, and then they are visible in the form of northern lights even during the day right up to the equator. The peculiarity of auroral irregularities is that they generate strong backscattering of ultra-short and ultra-low range radio waves. In other words, they mirror. On the one hand, this creates interference for radars, and on the other, it allows you to “mirror” the VHF communication signal even to Antarctica.
The Kharp system can heat up individual areas of the ionosphere several tens of meters thick, creating areas of auroral structures, and then use them to reflect a powerful radio beam onto individual areas of the earth's surface. The range is almost unlimited. At least the northern hemisphere of the planet is completely covered. Since the Earth’s magnetic pole is shifted towards Canada, and therefore Alaska, “Harp” turns out to be located under the very dome of the magnetosphere, and its position cannot be called anything other than strategic.
Expert opinion
The consequences are unpredictable
Initially, the goals of the experiments were to increase radio communication capabilities by locally changing the ionosphere. According to available data, side effects were obtained during the interaction of plasma formations with the ionosphere, which suggest the possibility of creating weapons based on the principles of artificial modification of the near-Earth environment with unpredictable consequences for the Earth as a whole.
In order to prevent the negative consequences of partial heating of the upper layers of the atmosphere and ionosphere (for example, by the American Harp system) for the Earth, it seems advisable to call on other states and the world scientific community for dialogue and the subsequent conclusion of international acts prohibiting such tests and work in the upper layers atmosphere and ionosphere.
Plasma weapon
What are plasma weapons? Plasma weapons are one of the most popular ideas in science fiction. In the Babylon 5 universe they use something called "PPG", which stands for Phased Plasma Gun. Nobody knows exactly what “phase” means, because... the weapon fires individual plasmoids, but that doesn't really matter since "phase" is just one of those scientific terms that has long since lost all meaning thanks to the technobabble of science fiction. Either way, PPG shots appear as dots of light traveling at subsonic speeds. The "plasma torpedo" used by the Romulans in the classic Star Trek episode "Balance of Terror" looks exactly like this. Most of all, she looked like a glowing orange blob. And finally, a significant number of Star Wars fans (probably influenced by Star Trek) decided to jump on the bandwagon and began to consider the green blasts of turbolasers to be plasma weapons. But what are plasma weapons? For those who are not in the know, plasma is usually described as the fourth state of matter after solid, liquid and gas. Technically it is an ionized gas, i.e. a gas in which the internal energy is so high that electrons are released from the electron shells of the atoms. The Earth's ionosphere mainly consists of plasma, which can also be described as a "hot soup" of freely floating nuclei and electrons (not entirely true, see details though ; approx. translator). Thus, it is logical to assume that plasma weapons should set the target on fire upon direct contact. What will be the effectiveness of plasma weapons? I ; approx. translator) ions, i.e. less than 0.01 grams of hydrogen plasma. A small problem: the air will be many times denser, so such a plasma "bolt" will try to float due to the buoyancy effect, and thus another propulsion system will be required to propel such bolts with their minor acceleration pulses through the atmosphere. Both of these problems can be solved by simply accelerating the particles (even at hypersonic speed the projectile will have enough momentum to mitigate the buoyancy effect and increase the effective firing range). But since this would again be the case in the case of a particle beam, and not a sci-fi "moving blob of plasma weapon", this solution does not apply here. In short, a typical subsonic or slightly faster-than-sound exploding plasma “bolt”, typical of science fiction, would require a self-contained magical protective field, and would still float, even if the field allowed it to contain the plasma. If we compress our megajoule plasmoid to a volume of one cubic centimeter and apply the ideal gas equation (great for plasmas), we get pressures in the range of 700 gigapascals! If you calculate that this is a thousand times greater than the yield strength of high quality steel, you can see that we have a problem. Plasma weapons described in science fiction typically have power in the range of kilotons, megatons, and even higher. Such values are necessary to compete with nuclear warheads, over which plasma weapons have a lot of technological disadvantages and only a few, often far-fetched, advantages. And whether you like it or not, that's good enough for most SF writers these days. Although, if it were possible to invent a field that would compress a bunch of plasma so tightly that it could fly through the air like a solid object, then why not use this fantastic technology to carry something more destructive, for example, a small charge of antimatter ? wouldE is a common spelling for the value of the degree, i.e. 6.24E21 should be read as "six point twenty-four hundredths by ten to the twenty-first power"apparently we are talking aboutmagnetically inhibitoryapparently we are talking aboutm, or cyclotron , radiation from an electron as it rotates in a magnetic field. field; approx. translator) become significant, since charged particles move around magnetic lines of force ( it is implied that we are talking about the influence of the Lorentz force, when a charged particle moves perpendicular to the magnetic field lines, twisting around the magnetic field line; approx. translator). Normal non-ionized matter glows with monochromatic radio emission, as a result of which only one allowed electronic transition from the excited to the ground state is possible; the difference is emitted as a photon ( plasma radiation; approx. translator). But in any case, the problem of dispersion remains unresolved.
