My strengths and weaknesses in communication. Strengths and weaknesses of a person
Formed from birth. It is influenced by various factors, but mainly the child’s environment. The way peers and parents communicate with him. He learns by looking at the relationships of other people, emphasizing for himself significant moments that are deposited in his consciousness. And in the end, this is formed into characteristic features. The formation of a person as an individual occurs until approximately 18 years of age. Afterwards, it is unlikely that the character will change unless you put enough effort into it.
Weaknesses and strengths of character
It happens that we think about our character. Some traits interfere with life, preventing you from developing and being realized in life. In such a situation, it is useful to sit down with a notepad and write down the strengths and weaknesses of your character in a column. This technique helps to sort through life’s problems and understand ways to solve them.
Which traits are considered strong and which are weak? Let's figure it out!
Strengths help you move forward with your head held high, despite the current circumstances. These include:
Determination. We constantly set goals for ourselves: someone wants to achieve success at work (promotion on the career ladder), others set financial goals, others dream of losing weight and set a goal to get the desired number on the scale. But not everyone reaches the final point; they lack the moral, and maybe even physical, strength to implement their plans. But if you have such a trait in your character, then don’t even doubt the success of completing your tasks.
Perseverance. To fulfill a desire, dream or goal, sometimes only determination is not enough; it happens that a little is missing, which helps a person reach the end, complete the intended tasks and proudly say that it is time to conquer new heights.
Willpower. This quality usually manifests itself in situations where self-overcoming occurs. A person quits smoking, loses many kilograms, gets rid of addictions and addictions. allows you to cope with desires that do not lead to a positive result.
Organized. Sometimes it's difficult to organize your own day. Either children are distracting, or problems at work and at home. Everything gets in the way of resolving complex issues and disputes. It’s easy to develop organization in yourself by planning for a day or a week at once. Write down in the organizer by the hour what, when, at what time, how much time will be spent on performing each action, and follow the plan strictly. Over time, you will feel that you no longer need notes, and you can cope on your own, getting used to a regular daily routine.
Responsibility. This is one of the important and main traits in a person’s character. Without it, you won’t be able to create a harmonious family, get settled and work for a long time in a prestigious and highly paid job. Responsibility should be instilled with mother's milk, and the well-known saying “we are responsible for those we have tamed” perfectly explains the need for this quality.
Sociability, sociability. These qualities enable a person to develop, find useful contacts, negotiate, and resolve conflict situations.
The combination of all these qualities indicates that a person has a strong character. Each of them needs to be developed and improved every day. Self-improvement never hurt anyone. Therefore, if you want to achieve everything you have in mind, you want to have a reliable rear (family, friends, children), then think about improving yourself.
Weak character traits
Pessimistic. Being in a pessimistic mood, a person perceives everything in gray. This prevents him from implementing plans, hoping for the best, solving problems, and in general life becomes boring, dull, uninteresting and insipid. It seems that there is no way out of the situation, but all you have to do is change your glasses to pink ones. How quickly a solution is found. Look at the world with a bright eye, and then it will seem much more attractive.
Emotionality. interferes with communication between people. This applies not only to family relationships, but also to business ones. How often do we shout in the boss’s office, forgetting about ethics. Such behavior should under no circumstances be allowed, otherwise the manager will harbor a grudge against you. Ultimately, you will receive a reprimand for any small violation of labor regulations, and there will always be a reason to fire you. Therefore, it is undesirable to show this quality anywhere, even with relatives.
Envy. Envy is a harmful, destructive feeling that negatively affects the psyche and emotional state. We have noticed more than once how negatively we speak about people who have achieved something in life. A woman bought an expensive car, we believe that she received it as a gift. But few people know that she earned it herself, spending years of effort to make her dream come true. A rich man married a simpleton - she is with him only for money, there is no talk of any love. A happy family hides the real thing behind insincere smiles. And there are a lot of such situations. consciousness, it is like a worm that eats an apple from the inside.
Wastefulness, inability to accumulate. Such people are wasters of life, they don’t know what it means to not have money in their pocket, they spend it on entertainment, drinking, going to clubs, women, etc. This quality is unlikely to help one day build their capital, their own fortress, a reliable family. Ultimately, everything can end in disaster.
Weaknesses make a person vulnerable, unable to withstand negative circumstances, so it is important to develop your thoughts, skills, and qualities.
How to develop a strong character
Character is a set of qualities that we acquire in the process of life from a very early age. It does not originate genetically, it is not passed on from father to son and from mother to daughter. Qualities develop, improve or deteriorate until a person becomes an adult. Of course, this age is relative; in some developed individuals, character manifests itself already at the age of 15-16. Much depends on upbringing, mental development, education.
To develop strong character traits, you need to work hard. This is the same as getting rid of something that has ingrained itself deep into the brain. I want to continue doing what I did before, but I need to do it differently. So is there a clear instruction on how to develop strong character?
First, understand what specific qualities you would like to change in yourself to become stronger, so that your mind and body work more productively. Write down the pros and cons of your character, what hinders and what helps, analyze some situations in life in which, in your opinion, you did not behave as you would like. This will help gather information together and draw conclusions.
Why having a strong character is important for you and the people around you. First of all, this allows you to achieve all your goals. But if, nevertheless, this did not happen, a failure occurred, then you should not despair, you need to continue moving in the right direction.
Empathize. Having a strong character does not mean that you go over your head, transgress through anyone who gets in your way. It's the other way around. You empathize with the weak, help them achieve their goals, love the people around you. But help unselfishly, don’t wait for a response from those you helped.
Naked facts. Strong character means a clear head. Do not start from emotions, experiences, hints and other relative feelings and qualities. Follow the pure facts, analyze, take concrete actions in your head, not vague assumptions.
Take the lead. Don't become, be someone who will adapt to conditions and lead, that is.
Appreciate what you have. Do you know the saying “it’s good where we are not”? She is unfaithful. Everything you imagine about other people, situations, places is subjective. Appreciate what is present in your life. If something doesn’t suit you, then don’t look away, don’t envy other people (neighbors, friends, celebrities), but improve and correct situations within yourself, at home, at work, etc.
No cowardice! Take risks, don't be a coward. But the risk must be carefully considered; do not rush into the pool headlong. Without battle there will be no victories, no gifts that victory should bring.
Don't follow other people's advice. Most likely, you have already subconsciously drawn conclusions for yourself on some important issue, decided what to do, but still ask the advice of your loved ones. Don't be fooled by other people's opinions that are opposed to your own, follow the first answer that pops into your head.
There is no need to argue, stay with your opinion and silently retreat, this is what strong personalities do.
Do good. There is enough evil, violence, and pain in our world. Make it a little better, notice only the best moments that happen around you, do good things yourself, help the weak: the elderly, children, animals. Only a strong-willed person is capable of such actions.
Control your mind, thoughts, emotions. To do this, you don’t have to be, look at each situation from the outside and reconsider your behavior. Excessive emotionality will never be a supporter of a strong person; it is a manifestation of the weakest. By being rude, we defend ourselves, which means we are weak.
Patience. Achieving your goals takes time, and waiting the right amount of time will require a lot of patience.
Eliminate weak thoughts. We are like gardeners removing weeds from the garden, clearing our heads of harmful, weak, unnecessary thoughts to clear our minds of unnecessary things. Tune in.
The truth and only the truth. Liars are weak, to become strong, tell only the truth. If you lie to someone close to you, you are lying, first of all, to yourself.
Work hard. “You can’t catch a fish out of a pond without effort.” Work hard, improve yourself, improve yourself. But don’t forget about rest; without it, quality work on mistakes will not be possible.
A strong character is not a panacea for all problems, but it will help to cope with many life situations from which, it would seem, there was no way out. Learn, develop, become better, and then life will seem like a fairy tale.
15 March 2014, 17:45Not everyone requires you to list your weaknesses on your resume. But if there is such a clause on the form, then putting a dash through would be a mistake. Better look at an example of character weaknesses in your resume.
Before filling out the box in which you need to indicate your shortcomings, think about your answer. Do not miss it under any circumstances, because ideal people do not exist. As a rule, managers want to see how adequately you evaluate yourself. If you don't know what to write, look at the suggested options and choose something that suits you best.
A universal formula: select character traits that are an advantage for performing this particular job, but in ordinary life can really be considered a human flaw.
The following weaknesses can be written:
- excessive directness, the habit of telling the truth face to face;
- difficulty establishing contact with strangers;
- inability to show flexibility in labor matters;
- reliability;
- increased anxiety;
- excessive emotionality, hot temper;
- love of formalism;
- restlessness;
- slowness;
- hyperactivity;
- fear of air travel.
All of the weaknesses listed in your resume can become strengths if you look at them from a different angle. An example is restlessness. For a sales representative or active sales manager, this can even be a plus. The same goes for reliability. This is a signal to the manager that you may be the person who will do all the overtime work.
All applicants should think about how to write my weaknesses for a resume. For example, a future accountant or design engineer might write:
- distrust;
- excessive scrupulousness;
- increased anxiety;
- excessive demands on oneself;
- straightforwardness;
- pedantry;
- modesty;
- inability to lie;
- difficulties in establishing contact with strangers;
- self-esteem;
- lack of flexibility in labor matters;
- integrity;
- inflated sense of responsibility;
- lack of diplomacy.
- hyperactivity;
- self-confidence;
- restlessness;
- impulsiveness;
- the need for external motivation;
- distrust, desire to double-check and confirm all information.
Disadvantages for one profession can become advantages for another.
You can also indicate in your resume among your negative qualities:
- straightforwardness;
- workaholism;
- excessive love of communication.
Applicants for the position of manager must prepare before filling out this column. It is better to think in advance about what weaknesses to include in your resume. You can write to them about the following character traits:
- excessive emotionality;
- pedantry;
- love for little things;
- thoughts about work and planning occupy most of your free time;
- increased demands on others.
A good example would be the following:
- inability to respond to rudeness with rudeness;
- tendency to make decisions based on one’s own opinion;
- distrust of people and love of confirmation of facts.
Some applicants prefer to indicate that they:
- overly trusting;
- can raise their voice to subordinates;
- straightforward, express their opinions without veiled embellishments;
- hot-tempered;
- always looking for confirmation of words;
- have a hypertrophied sense of responsibility;
- prone to formalism and pay excessive attention to detail;
- irritated by clutter;
- slow;
- do not like to do something to please others.
Many people are afraid to write about shortcomings, believing that the employer will immediately send their resume to the trash bin. Of course, you shouldn’t be too frank, but you shouldn’t completely skip this section of the questionnaire. In this case, you can write about some neutral qualities that will not affect your work in any way. For a person applying for any vacancy, among the inherent weaknesses one can indicate:
- fear of airplanes;
- arachnophobia (fear of spiders), vespertiliophobia (fear of bats), ophidiophobia (fear of snakes);
- excess weight;
- lack of experience;
- age (suitable for people over 40 years old);
- love of shopping;
- love for sweets.
This information does not characterize you in any way, it simply speaks about your fears or small weaknesses.
The following disadvantages can be mentioned:
- I don’t always express my thoughts accurately;
- I trust people too much;
- prone to reflection;
- I often analyze past mistakes, focusing too much attention on them;
- I spend a lot of time evaluating my actions.
These are negative qualities, but they should not affect the work process.
Regardless of the position for which you are applying, you can write the following weaknesses in your resume:
- I get so carried away with work that I forget to take breaks;
- I can’t build relationships with colleagues because I don’t like gossip;
- I can’t fight back in response to boorish treatment;
- I constantly pass all situations through myself;
- I let people get too close;
- I don’t know how to swear;
- I get noticeably worried when I have to lie.
Please note that there are items that are best left unindicated. You should not write, for example, that you:
- love to be lazy;
- afraid to take responsibility;
- don't like making decisions;
- unpunctual;
- are often distracted;
- you only think about your salary;
- love office romances.
For example, if you write about your laziness in your resume, you run the risk that the employer will decide that you don’t want to work.
It is known that there are no phenomena or events that would have only positive or negative consequences, therefore each of the factors of the external or internal environment must have a comprehensive assessment of the mechanisms and results of the impact. In addition, it must be borne in mind that environmental analysis is carried out by certain persons who can evaluate events and phenomena differently and develop various approaches regarding the behavior of an enterprise in certain conditions. There is still a basic rule: you need to analyze the external and internal environments in their interrelation and dependence.
Strategic balance is a certain combination of negatively and positively influencing factors (threats and opportunities) affecting the activity of the enterprise, which objectively exist in the external environment of the enterprise and are subjectively changed by managers, with relatively strong and weak points in the functioning of the enterprise. In addition, the greatest threats arise when a negative development of the situation in the environment is superimposed on the weaknesses of the enterprise; opportunities are situations in the external environment, a positive process or phenomenon in which the enterprise has the opportunity to demonstrate its strengths. It is necessary to identify threats in a timely manner in order to prevent a crisis of the enterprise, and knowledge about potential opportunities makes it possible to write in advance for their most effective use.
Drawing up a strategic balance in Western literature is called SWOT analysis.
GENERAL CHARACTERISTICS OF THE STRENGTHS AND WEAKNESSES OF THE ENTERPRISE ARE USED IN SWOT ANALYSIS
Potential Internal Benefits
Potential Internal Weaknesses
competitive advantages (uniqueness)
the most important features in competence regarding certain activities
strong position in specific market segments, well-known leader
tough competitor in the market (use of aggressive initiative)
offensive strategy or other special strategy, justified "strategic set"
promoting growth in the number of target consumer groups or their loyalty
above average awareness of market conditions
knowledge of the most important strategic groups, possibilities of protection from competitors
concentration on fast-growing market segments
lack of real competitive
constant attacks from key competitors (competitive position worsens)
loss of competitive position as a result.
lower average growth rate
lack of some key skills to compete effectively
lack of financial resources, insufficient profitability
loss of reputation among consumers
“shepherding” in product development, narrow specialization or unjustified diversification
working in a strategic group losing its foundation, shortcomings in strategic activities
weakness in areas that have high market potential, insufficient attention to research and development
product differentiation, justified diversification
competition to reduce costs
higher average profitability and
sufficient financial resources
above average marketing skills
above average technological and innovative skills
creative, entrepreneurial management
well-researched market, needs
ability to realize the capabilities of competitive personnel skills
image of a reliable partner
lack of action to mitigate competitive pressures
weak distribution system
high-cost production, aging capacity
production sizes are too small to influence the market situation or too large - the “disease of large companies” begins
lack of real specific management skills, lack of talent
a "newbie" in business whose reputation has not yet been proven
poorly chosen and insufficiently justified strategic actions (including market relocation), lack of a clear understanding of the strategic directions of development
lack of a strong position to deal with threats
GENERAL EXTERNAL OPPORTUNITIES AND THREATS FOR THE ENTERPRISE USED IN SWOT ANALYSIS
To develop strategies, it is not enough to state the influence of certain environmental factors. To ensure the survival of the enterprise in the long-term trade union perspective, it is necessary to predict trends in the development of chances and thunderstorms. The fact that analysis and forecasting of trends should be carried out simultaneously is confirmed by the list of stages of conducting a SWOT analysis (Table 2.15).
The need to process large amounts of information predetermines the use of various statistical methods of data analysis: single and multifactorial, descriptive and inductive methods, methods of dependency analysis and methods of relationship analysis. In many enterprises, when applying SWOT analysis, regression, variation, discriminant, factor and cluster analysis are widely used. The use of a particular method depends on the level of scaling of dependent and independent variables, as well as the content of the phenomenon or problem that is the object of analysis. The quality of the analysis performed ensures the reliability of the forecasts constructed on its basis (see Section 2.7).
MAIN STAGES OF APPLYING SWOT ANALYSIS
Analysis of the current situation (diagnosis)
Future analysis (forecast)
1. Analysis of critical internal and external factors
2. Assessment of external factors (expertise)
5. Forecasting development trends for each (selected) external factor
3. Assessment of internal factors (expertise)
4. Who are we and what are our competitive advantages (disadvantages)?
“I moved on with my life and made as many Strong Choices as I could. But I was tormented by the inner conviction that I could do much more. After all, I am sure that you very often feel potential within yourself that simply does not have the opportunity to manifest itself in your current reality. And therefore, a person endowed with many talents may seem mediocre, because... he simply does not have the ability or understanding of how to realize his potential! Most likely, everything would have remained at the level of internal sensations and regrets if, while studying at the Academy of Imperial Feng Shui, I had not come close to understanding the “Core of Personality.” Core Personality – this is a set of fundamental programs of a person’s personality that determine his motivation, values, abilities and way of achieving goals. It became a discovery for me that the Core of my Personality is the Yin Fire Ding. The image of this fire is the flame of a candle or fire from smoldering coals. It is not as strong as the Yang Bing fire and is not capable of illuminating everything and everyone, but it provides a steady warmth and light to those around it without burning or scorching. Each Core Personality has its own Strengths and Weaknesses. I started studying them, going deeper and experimenting with them in my work. And as it turns out, my gut feeling was correct. My work as a foreign trade manager simply did not give me the opportunity to fully express all my strengths...
From my memories
Chapter 5: Strengths and weaknesses of a person.
“My philosophy is to
feel responsible not only for your own
life in general, but also for the fact that in every
to do the best at a specific moment
what you do. This setting will change
and your life for the better in the near future."
Oprah Winfrey,
host of a famous talk show.
The concept of Strong and Weak choices raises questions - how can we learn to make these very Strong choices?
My life experience suggests that regularly making strong choices helps develop and strengthen a person’s Strengths while simultaneously working on Weaknesses.
What are Strengths and Weaknesses and where do they come from in a person?
What I think best explains this is the concept of “Life as a Journey.” Imagine that you are going on a trip to the mountains. Usually any trip is preceded by a period of preparation and collection.
The traveler collects the equipment he will need on the hike. So if he goes to the mountains, he takes with him all the things that he will need in the mountains. And he doesn’t take with him what he needs, for example, at sea and may not be needed in mountainous conditions.
The same goes for strengths and weaknesses. The soul goes into its incarnation on Earth with a clear understanding of the goals and objectives that it is going to realize in the material world.
And for these purposes, she chooses character traits that suit her, future parents, country, city, gender, etc. The Soul also outlines the main events of life, its lessons, the people it will meet and communicate with in its next incarnation.
And of course, she chooses in advance the abilities that she will have in this life. After all, it is her abilities that will give her in this incarnation the opportunity to go through and receive certain life lessons for the sake of which she plans her journey.
This is why it is very important to know your Strengths and Weaknesses. After all, it is working with them, developing strengths and working through weaknesses that ultimately lead us to understanding the purpose of our journey!
And then we come to understand our purpose in the current incarnation. And then it’s easy and simple for us to make the most difficult Strong Choices. After all, they are naturally and most organically woven into our Path.
Human strengths
Scientists, having conducted a lot of experiments and experiments, have proven that people who use their strengths in their activities:
- Get an extra boost of energy feeling healthier, more satisfied and more confident.
- React less to stressful situations and make more adequate decisions in difficult external conditions; positive thinking is easy for them.
- Move up the career ladder faster and more successfully, are more in demand on the labor market and their wages are an order of magnitude higher.
- More variable, flexible and creative, quickly acquire knowledge and develop in their professional activities, and easily adapt to changing external circumstances.
- Are much more deeply involved in their activities and get real pleasure from it, connecting it with their purpose in life.
- Happier and more satisfied with your life, they are less likely to experience depression and mood swings.
- Completely satisfied with your life, are happier in marriage, their children grow up beautiful, smart and capable.
On my own behalf, I can also add that I experienced all the most vivid, emotionally intense experiences and maximum satisfaction in life precisely when I used my strengths.
From theory, let's move on to practice. We will talk about methods by which you can independently determine your strengths and weaknesses in the next chapter 6: “Three techniques for identifying a person’s strengths.”
In the meantime, let's look at what our society generally calls strengths.
Among them may be:
analytical thinking;
learning ability;
responsibility;
organization;
discipline;
hard work;
patience;
determination;
self-confidence;
communication skills;
ability to speak in public;
get to the bottom of the issue;
ability to make quick decisions;
and many others...
Weaknesses of a person.
Each of us has, of course, weaknesses. This is what we struggle with all our lives, what we want to change, work through, what we are ashamed of or afraid of.
- Fix it yourself.
Weaknesses are not something you should work on all your life, investing enormous effort and tons of time.
It has been proven that it is much more effective to invest time, effort and money in developing strengths than overcoming weaknesses.
However, there is always the opportunity to get a decent effect with little effort.
So, whenever you start learning some new knowledge or practice, you immediately get 20 to 30% progress. After all, if you had zero, then adding even a small amount of something to it gives a quick increase in quantity.
Therefore, always strengthen your weak areas until with little effort they improve significantly.
And when growth progress stops, just record the result and move on.
- Contact the professionals.
If a weakness causes you inconvenience and constantly interferes with your life, and trying to develop it on your own has not helped, then I recommend that you contact a professional.
You shouldn’t puff, puff up, and puff out your cheeks like a beginning weightlifter who thinks that this will help him “take” more weight.
It is much more effective in terms of investing money and time to turn to a professional for help.
They will either help you themselves or give effective recommendations to eliminate the consequences of your weakness.
- Admit it to yourself and adapt.
If neither the first nor the second option gave any strong improvements, then take a close look at your life.
How serious is the impact of your weakness on your quality of life?
If the influence is not serious, then just admit to yourself that this quality is in you. Then consider this factor in your life.
So, for example, if you are constantly late, then simply leave for important meetings or the airport in advance. Ask people from your environment to give you a “kick” at your request in serious moments so that they can help you cope.
What to do if a weakness has a serious impact on your life, for example, it is important for your professional activities?
In this case, you need to take this into account in a special way and replace it with the strength of your team member or employee.
So, for example, if you are a soft person, but manage people who recognize toughness and determination, then you definitely need a deputy who will strictly and decisively execute and implement your decisions.
"Light" and "dark" sides
The conversation about strengths and weaknesses will be incomplete if I remain silent about one of the important Cosmic laws.
This is the law of Duality or Duality of our existence.
Chinese metaphysics tells us that everything in our world is dual. Everything can be divided into yin and yang. This principle is expressed by the well-known Yin-Yang symbol.
This principle of Tazi or the Great Limit tells us that everything has its own “light” and its own “dark” side. And strengthening any side to the maximum leads to its transformation into its opposite.
Even the best quality, if strengthened too much, will turn into its opposite.
Fig.2 The Great Principle of Tai Chi or the Yin-Yang Circle.
Strengths always have a “light” and a “dark” side. So, for example, organization is a good strength, but its dark side is excessive inflexibility, adherence to the “letter” and not the spirit of the law, pedantry - no one would call these qualities strong. Moreover, they are more likely to be considered weak and annoy others.
What can this teach us to apply in our lives?
Firstly, try to look carefully at your weaknesses. It is possible that most of them are an exaggerated strength. And you can quite easily transform it and make it your strength.
Or think about the fact that in some special conditions your weaknesses can be considered strengths.
What could these conditions be?
Secondly, remember that strengthening of strengths should occur not so much in quantitative terms, how much is at the qualitative level. Otherwise, you can easily deform your strong side and become the owner of a weak side.
P.S. “The result of working with my strengths gave its amazing effect a few months after the start of the experiments. As two of my strengths, I began to develop emotional leadership and public speaking skills by speaking up and speaking my mind wherever it was appropriate in my job. And they noticed me! Moreover, my future mentor, the head of a completely different direction in the company, noticed me. Noticing my abilities, he took the liberty and convinced the general director to transfer a competent employee from the foreign economic activity department to the development department as his assistant. The art of the Destiny Code and learning the strengths of my Core Personality simply opened up a new vision of myself for me! As a result, I quickly made a decision (although before understanding my personality and its characteristics I would have had strong doubts for a long time, and could have missed the opportunity) and within a month we were traveling throughout Russia, communicating with new interesting people, changing their understanding of the business of fashionable women's clothing and negotiating the opening of franchise dealer stores. Within six months, my income doubled and, including travel allowances and bonuses, became over $1,200! This exceeded my salary as a foreign trade manager by more than 2 times and gave me the opportunity to become a bright, respected and well-known specialist in my company.
Practical task:
1. Now, in order not to be just theorists, write in the comments below a list of your strengths and weaknesses as you see them right now.
2. For the advanced - try to find echoes of strengths in some of your weaknesses. Or come up with conditions in which your weaknesses may be in demand and needed.
Poll Options are limited because JavaScript is disabled in your browser.
When applying for a job, your application form becomes the only link with your employer. It is difficult to get a good job without the correct presentation of your own capabilities. However, many serious ones require filling out an insidious item - character weaknesses.
In a resume, every word written is important. Do not fill out this line hastily!
Your weaknesses on your resume should be a mirror image of your strengths.
But you shouldn’t be too zealous in listing your shortcomings. And there is no need to reproach yourself for your personality weaknesses. Remember that what is good for one person is unacceptable for another. For example, for someone you are wasteful, someone will consider you generous; Some will see greed in you, others will say - economical.
Present your negative character traits to the employer, wrapping them in a beautiful package. For example, for an accountant, unsociability can even be useful in work, but a manager with this quality will have a hard time.

Find 2-3 traits of your character that would be considered a disadvantage in everyday life, but from the point of view of your chosen profession turn into undeniable advantages.
What weaknesses should you include in your resume?
You should think carefully about this. Sometimes writing a few words about yourself is much more difficult than you thought. After all, what’s at stake is working in a reputable company, and the well-being of the whole family may depend on your ability to show your weaknesses in your application form.
Of course, there is no guarantee that the next employer will take you on to their team. There is no doubt that the future boss will not only not put him aside, but will show his interest and will certainly want to meet. So what trump cards will we have in store to beat our competitors?
Be truthful
The habit of exaggeration will come in handy here. If the employer does not require you to dwell on negative qualities, then there is no need to write anything. Then emphasize your merits as a specialist by mentioning your strengths. If your resume needs to be written in any form, then focus on your positive aspects as an individual and a specialist in the field.
But what shortcomings should you include in your resume in order to become the first applicant for the long-awaited position?
- Firstly, as we have already said, so that the employer does not get the impression of you as a person with painfully inflated self-esteem, in no case do we ignore the point about shortcomings.
- Secondly, don't deviate from your resume writing style. When talking with an interlocutor live, it is much easier to convey information to the listener: you can use gestures, facial expressions, and focus on his reaction. In the case of a resume, a special approach is needed, because the manager sees only what is written.
- Thirdly, the boss will not be able to help but note the honesty of the resume, where you will briefly report your shortcomings, based on some important points.
Don't chase the standard
When reviewing a resume, each employer looks at the situation from its own angle. Sometimes the same character trait can be viewed in two ways. For some, it will turn out to be the positive side of the coin, while others may be blacklisted for having such character traits.

Each field of activity requires an individual approach. In teamwork, leadership qualities will only hinder the team, but for a manager, the ability to make his own decisions will be quite useful.
Be intellectually mature
It is important that you are aware of your imperfections and do not take criticism with hostility. After all, only an intellectually mature person can calmly and fairly conduct a personal assessment of his positive and negative sides.
It is undoubtedly easier for an employer to give preference to a mature personality than to educate an unbalanced person.
Show your willingness to work on yourself
Having presented your negative qualities to the general court, be sure to indicate that you are actively fighting against the shortcoming you indicated. You can’t let your employer think that you live comfortably with this negativity.
It could be shyness or impulsiveness. You can point out their manifestation in accordance with the situation, and make it clear that you are waging a persistent struggle against the presence of these disadvantages: expanding your connections and striving to keep your ardor under control.
Let's look at a simple example in a resume, where the weaknesses of the applicant turned into a positive side from a professional point of view.
“In everyday life, you are unable to refuse people, and because of this you do not have your own personal life. However, the boss may consider this quality more than beneficial for him. Having hired a reliable employee, the manager expects that he will always be able to rely on such an employee, no matter what issues the assignment concerns. This trait can be simply invaluable for personnel who work under someone’s direct supervision.
Present your strengths as weaknesses
Psychology is a very interesting science. Of course, it’s not worth filling out the field for shortcomings with the phrases “increased responsibility” or “workaholism.” The manager will immediately accuse you of dishonesty.
To take a highly paid position and, along with it, a future boss, you need to:
- gullibility - you will be perceived as a person capable of concluding agreements exclusively with trusted partners;
- self-confidence - they will see you as a leader inclined to move forward;
- hyperactivity - they will place bets on the speed of completing assigned tasks commensurate with other employees;
- slowness - they will find in you a scrupulous worker who can see mistakes and notice important nuances;
- increased anxiety - they will note a responsible approach to work and their responsibilities;
- straightforwardness - you will be considered a master of negotiations who will confidently insist on the terms and requirements of the company;
- demanding - they will think: if an employee is demanding of himself, then you will treat production processes with no less responsibility;
- pedantry - will determine the ability to bring initiatives to perfection through repeated checks;
- restlessness - they will see you as an employee who is ready to carry out new tasks and assignments regardless of external factors;
- modesty - they will be included in the number of employees who weigh what is said, which helps prevent conflict situations and unnecessary misunderstandings.
For the resume of a future accountant, the following can be used as an example of weaknesses:
- suspicion;
- excessive pedantry;
- increased anxiety;
- straightforwardness;
- scrupulousness;
- modesty;
- inability to lie;
- pride;
- lack of agreement in work situations;
- scrupulousness;
- an inflated sense of responsibility;
- inability to negotiate.
But for specialties that require direct communication with a wide audience, this list of qualities is extremely unsuitable.
For example, a manager can indicate in his resume:
- restlessness;
- hyperactivity;
- demandingness;
- impudence;
- stubbornness;
- self-confidence;
- straightforwardness;
- impulsiveness.
Why does a manager want to know about your shortcomings?
If the future boss decides to include a “character weaknesses” column in his resume, then he cannot ignore it.
Be yourself, believe in yourself and you will succeed, and finally, video
During interviews with employers and when writing a resume, you have to indicate your strengths. Oddly enough, some people find this more difficult than listing their weaknesses. However, you need to specify both. We will help you decide and create your own list.
A person's strengths and weaknesses are often asked about during a job interview. You have to answer this question by writing your own resume.
So you inevitably begin to think about your strengths and weaknesses. With advantages, that is, character strengths, it usually works out well. But with the weak... Is it really impossible without them? It is forbidden! Recruiters - experienced professionals - will appreciate your frankness, and who knows, perhaps your combination of “pros” and “cons” will help them make a choice in your favor.
About the benefits of “soul-searching”
Every person has strengths and weaknesses. It would seem, why look for them at home? What can this do? According to psychologists, a lot. You need to know your strengths in order to feel confident in various life situations. And knowing your weaknesses will help, if not overcome them, then at least take control of them and engage in self-development. The latter, according to experts, helps in both your career and personal life, and generally leads to harmony with yourself and the whole world.
Strengths
Strengths combine to make a strong character. Let's see what qualities and traits define. This is all the more necessary to know if you do not want to be content with a modest position and low salary, but want to succeed in your career endeavors. The list turns out to be quite extensive.
So this is:
- professionalism;
- analytical thinking;
- learning ability;
- responsibility;
- discipline;
- hard work;
- patience;
- determination;
- self-confidence.
Developing strengths
Professionalism is your knowledge multiplied by experience. If it’s not in vain that you spent your time at the institute, love and know how to study, know your job well, you will certainly become a professional. By the way, according to experts, there is a fairly simple path to professional self-improvement. To do this, it is enough to read one book in your specialty every month.
But analytical thinking and learning ability depend on the level of intelligence. By the way, intelligence, according to the latest research, is transmitted through the maternal line. So if you got good genes, your parents took a lot of care of you as a child, and you studied diligently and didn’t act like a fool, then you have every reason to add positive qualities from the list to the second and third ones. What follows are strengths that you may not possess, but which you are quite capable of developing in yourself.
Responsibility
It seems that this quality is also innate, but in women mainly for some reason. It is not for nothing that there is even such a term as hypertrophied responsibility, and what is meant by it is precisely the female ability to be responsible for everything: for children, husband, parents, friends, animals, work, country, and so on. So we have nothing to develop here, except perhaps learn the opposite.
Discipline
This is sometimes difficult. Set an alarm for 6.30 and get up at the first signal, rather than endlessly delaying the moment of getting up. Arrive at work on time, not 10 minutes late. Likewise, don’t be late for business meetings or get-togethers with friends. To become disciplined, you need to come up with motivation. For example, it’s easy for me to get up early in the morning because I know that a cup of coffee with something tasty and an interesting read are waiting for me. The anticipation of all this helps you not to lie in bed.
And in order not to be late for work, try to see what a thrill it is to come to the office... first! Silence and tranquility, you can calmly collect your thoughts, make plans for the whole day and get to work. By the way, in the morning hours, the brain works more productively.
Hard work
Rarely do people have this innate quality. All humanity is lazy to one degree or another. And only hunger, cold and fear forced him to get up from the warm skin of a mammoth and do something useful. So we do: we get down to business not because we are tired of resting, but because there is such an inexorable word “needed”.
You need to wash the windows for the winter, iron the washed clothes, select unnecessary books and take them to the nearest library... But what a feeling of satisfaction comes over you when you realize that you managed to overcome yourself and accomplish what you set out to do. So you gradually get the hang of it and become... a workaholic in the good sense of the word.
Patience
This is when you realize that you won’t be able to get everything at once and right away. And you learn to wait, gradually, step by step approaching your goal. Career growth, by the way, is exactly what happens. Almost no one gets into top management immediately after graduating from university. Well, maybe some computer genius level.
Determination and self-confidence
You get these strengths as a bonus to the ones listed above. Professionalism. The more you know and can do, the more confident you feel in your business. And this helps you go your own way, persistently achieving your goals.
Let's add to the list
We also call character strengths:
- honesty;
- reliability;
- justice;
- honesty;
- responsiveness;
- courage.
People who have all of the above qualities are able to control themselves, their desires and actions, and therefore manage their lives and control their circumstances. Well, such individuals always inspire respect and trust.
