When is the best time to go to Cuba? When is the best time to vacation in Cuba: what time of year and where
One of the most interesting countries of our time, in which eternal summer reigns, a socialist reserve with incredibly colorful people, the birthplace of the world's best tobacco and rum, the island state of Cuba, part of the Greater Antilles, is located in the northern part of the Caribbean, being separated from North America Strait of Florida. In this article on the Tour Calendar you will find out why the period from November to April is considered the best for a holiday on Liberty Island.
Tourist season in Cuba
Cuba is so far and so close. Every year, about 2.5 million people shell out a lot of money and experience a long transatlantic flight to relax, relieve stress and taste the sweet taste of freedom on this temperamental island, where every day there is an incendiary holiday. Cuba amazes with the splendor of the Caribbean exoticism, snow-white beaches, transparent clean and very warm emerald sea, colorful underwater world and unusual revolutionary surroundings. Everything here is done to please tourists, who spend decent amounts of money here: luxury hotels, first-class restaurants, plenty of entertainment and water sports. Russians are also included in their category. About 50,000 people come here from November to April, when Cuba experiences its driest weather. In general, the holiday season lasts all year round: in the summer the country is visited by those who are not afraid of high temperatures and tropical downpours.
High season
As already mentioned, the period from November to April is the most popular among tourists, when precipitation is limited to 5 rainy days per month. December, January and February are the busiest times of the season. A good million tourists who fly to Cuba to celebrate the New Year and Christmas holidays in the shade of spreading palm trees instead of spruce and with a glass of Cuba Libre in their hands instead of champagne want to get out of the dank cold, dull gray landscapes of a boring winter. However, it is worth keeping in mind that prices for tours during this period of time increase by approximately 30%-40%, and they are sold out long before the expected date.
Low season
The low season in Cuba is the tropical rainy season, which lasts from May to October. This is the wettest and hottest period of the year, during which Cubans themselves and budget tourists prefer to relax. After all, it is in the summer that travel agencies offer “hot tours”, thanks to which the savings amount to about 40%-50% of the amount that would have to be paid in the winter. And this, given the “biting” high cost of air tickets, is a significant benefit. However, not everyone copes easily with the heat in very stuffy conditions.
Beach season in Cuba
In the case of Cuba, you don’t need to worry about the fact that the water in the sea or ocean may not yet be warm enough or will suddenly become cold during your vacation. Its temperature never drops below +24 °C due to warm currents. In winter - +24 °C..+25 °C, and in summer - from +28 °C to +30 °C. Of course, swimming will be most comfortable in the winter season, since in the summer you cannot hide from the exorbitantly high temperatures even in the water, and strong waves are not at all uncommon for this time of year.
Windsurfing season in Cuba
The windsurfing season lasts all year round, but "sea wolves" still prefer spring and summer, when big waves rise
Windsurfing as a water sport and tourist entertainment in Cuba is just developing. So far, the country has only a few places where you can rent a sailing board and use the services of a professional instructor. These are the island of Cayo Guillermo, the harbor of the town of Cienfuegos, La Concha beach in Havana and the resort of Santiago de Cuba. The skiing season usually lasts during the rainy season, when the winds blow, driving up the waves.
Diving season
People also come to Cuba for diving, snorkeling and spearfishing. The underwater world of the Caribbean Sea is richer in diverse flora and fauna than the Atlantic Ocean. In addition, thousands of small islands are scattered around the Caribbean island, like pearls, the untouched nature of which boasts the preservation of rare inhabitants of the deep sea, as well as the incredible purity and transparency of the water. Therefore, a huge number of diving centers are concentrated on the Caribbean coast. The season here lasts for a whole year, since strong currents are not typical for the basin of this sea. And even during tropical rains, diving is safe.
Fishing season
Fishing on an exotic island is also exotic. This is not the Black Sea or a pond in the Russian outback. Fishing in Cuba is a drive, overflowing emotions and valuable trophies, including predatory wahoo, swordfish, blue marlin and others. The fishing season lasts throughout the year, but the fishing period for each of these types of fish is different. For example, the migration time for swordfish is from February to March; from October to November, cosmopolitan sailfish are caught, but only in the north-west of the island, since from March to June it will be in the south-east. It bites best in spring and summer, when the weather is stable and sunny. In order not to bother yourself with such numerous nuances, it is better to turn to professionals who organize fishing, since you still cannot do without a boat or boat.
Cruise season
Every year during the navigation season, which opens in early August, the port of Havana receives cruise ships from Mexico. Several years ago, Tropicana Cruises developed an excursion program for Russian tourists who do not speak English. Passenger ships depart from the port of Puerto Progresso with calls (in addition to Havana) to Mexico and the Cayman Islands. In turn, from the capital of Cuba for approximately 1000 euros you can purchase a cruise tour along the route “Island Juventud - Isla. Grand Cayman - o. Cozumel - Havana (the liner departs from the port every Saturday).
Best time for excursions
In Cuba, everything that is most unusual and unusual for our “brother” seduces: huge areas of national reserves, bizarre caves with prehistoric frescoes, tobacco plantations, half a century old retro cars and long lines in stores where food is issued with coupons. And even ancient houses that have not seen repairs since the revolution in Cuba are also part of its attractions. It is unlikely that you will be able to properly enjoy the atmosphere of the city in the summer heat and strong winds, but in the period from November to April this can be organized in the best way.
It's time for holidays and festivals
Cubans are hospitable people with a fiery temperament. They say that in Cuba they drink rum, smoke tobacco and know how to dance well. This is the honest truth - they know how to have fun here, and this is what attracts a huge number of tourists here. When you come to Cuba, you will always find yourself at one event or another. National holidays of the Republic include: Day of Liberation and Victory of the Cuban Revolution, celebrated on January 1 and 2, May 1 - International Workers' Day, July 26 - Day of the National Uprising (led by Che Guevara), the celebration of which stretches over 3 days; October 10 - “Grito de Yara”, which marks the anniversary of the beginning of the struggle for Cuban independence from the Spanish metropolis. Now let's talk a little about local festivals. There are a lot of them in Cuba. The most popular and largest in scale include: the 10-day film festival “International Festival of New Latin American Cinema”, which opens in Havana in early December; the jazz music festival “Jazz Plaza”, starting in the middle of the first winter month; January theater festival “Jornada Villanueva”; tobacco festival “Havana Cigar”, starting at the end of February; The Caribbean Culture Festival is the biggest event of the summer, falling in June or July; July fire festival “Fiesta del Fuego” - 10 days of music, fire shows and fiery salsa in Santiago de Cuba; International Havana Ballet Festival, held annually in mid-autumn. It is also worth mentioning that on January 25, Cubans, along with the entire Catholic world, celebrate Christmas, and at the end of February, the time for enchanting carnivals begins in all major cities of the Republic, leaving no one indifferent. A series of carnivals also take place in the summer.
Climate in Cuba
Cuba is warm all year round, as it has a tropical trade wind climate. The eastern part of the island is characterized by higher temperatures than the western. The bright sun shines 330 days a year, so you will definitely get your dose of vitamin D. The average air temperature for the year is about +25 °C. High humidity makes it difficult to feel the heat, but the winds blowing from the ocean bring some relief. There are two climatic periods in Cuba: the rainy season - from May to October and the tropical season - from November to April. It is worth keeping in mind that the climate of Cuba is prone to changeability. So, summer can surprise with dry periods, and winter with wet ones. Tropical cyclones (usually up to 5) over Cuba acquire the status of storms and only occasionally gain hurricane force. According to statistics, a hurricane does not have the habit of hitting the same place every year. The hurricane season lasts from June to September.
Cuba in the spring
March is high season in Cuba. However, cold winds may blow this month, especially on the Atlantic coast, although there are quite a few calm days. At the beginning of spring, the water becomes warmer, so absolutely all beaches are crowded with tourists. There is no need to be afraid of tropical rains; they fall no more than 3-5 days. And in hot weather, reaching +27 °C..+28 °C, they are very refreshing. The evenings also bring significant relief: after sunset the thermometer drops to +17°C..+21°C. In April, day and night temperatures continue to rise, moderated by cool trade winds. In the evenings, you can safely walk at the very edge of the water; it is impossible to freeze at this time of day: the air does not cool below +21 °C..+22 °C. This is an interesting time for both beach and sightseeing holidays. April is enriched with the largest festivals, affecting almost all major cities in Cuba. It is believed that this month marks the end of the high tourist season, because the period of rains and storms begins in May. However, many Cubans consider this month the most suitable for a holiday in the Republic, since, despite the real fact of an increase in rainfall up to 7 calendar days, showers do not fall every day and take no more than 2 hours. These 2 hours can be devoted to lunch at the hotel, relaxation, and some tourists, on the contrary, do not rush to shelter, wanting to cool off under the streams of tropical rain - a kind of exotic.

Cuba in summer
In summer, Cuba has a low season, this is explained by the fact that at this time the island is very hot: the air temperature during the day does not fall below +32 °C, sometimes rising to +35 °C, and the water temperature ranges from +27 °C to + 29°C. Often in the afternoon there are heavy tropical downpours, always falling suddenly, but stopping after an hour or two. There is a lot of precipitation, so after it entire streets are flooded. But very soon the air warms up again to the usual temperature levels, and the sun begins to get hot. The latter, by the way, is quite aggressive in the summer. You should not stay outdoors for a long time. Be sure to stock up on good creams with a high UF protection factor and drink plenty of water. It’s better to forget about sightseeing in the daytime, there’s little pleasure in it. Real pleasure from summer walks can be obtained only in the dark (by the way, not very safe), when the air cools to +22 °C..+24 °C. And a few words about possible dangers. When swimming in the sea, it is possible to encounter jellyfish, especially after another storm. Most of them do not pose any particular danger, but direct contact with them does not bode well: Aurelia can cause a burn, which must be immediately treated with a weak solution of vinegar. But the sinophore with tentacles, similar to an inflated balloon, is extremely poisonous. After bad weather, these jellyfish can often be seen in the water near the shore. At this time, lifeguards place red flags on the beaches informing that swimming is prohibited.

Cuba in autumn
At the beginning of autumn, Cuban weather can bring unpleasant surprises. September-October is characterized by storms, hurricanes that trouble sea water and harm everything that gets in their way, as well as high humidity. Tour operators know this and use every possible means to lure tourists to vacation during this period of time (with seductive discounts, lucrative offers). At the beginning of autumn in Cuba it is almost as hot as in summer. Unless the thermometer drops a couple of degrees, and the water temperature in the ocean and sea is about +26 °C..+29 °C. High levels of humidity remain, so an acclimatization period is unlikely to be avoided. Usually, by the beginning of October, the number of days marked by rainfall is reduced to nothing. If you decide to come to Cuba in the first half of autumn, be quite scrupulous in your choice of hotel: pay attention to its proximity to the water (the further the better - to avoid flooding), the presence of a good pumping station and an indoor swimming pool in case if you have to sit in your room for a long time in bad weather. In November, the heat subsides a little, and the air temperature drops to more comfortable temperatures - +26 °C..+28 °C. There is also a reduction in precipitation - up to 5 rainy days per month. November is the start of the high tourist season after the past difficult climatic period. However, in the first ten days of the month there may still be high waves on the ocean, so at this time it is better to go to the Caribbean coast, unless, of course, you are a surfer.

Santiago de Cuba | +33 +29 | +32 +29 | +31 +29 |

Cuba is dominated by a tropical trade wind type of climate, so it is always warm there. Higher temperatures are observed in the eastern part of the island; on the western side it is somewhat cooler, but not significantly. There are up to 330 sunny days a year, so all vacationers are guaranteed a chocolate tan. The average air temperature is 25 degrees Celsius with a plus sign.
Temperatures seem higher due to high humidity, however, the wind blowing from the ocean can bring temporary relief. There are two seasons in Cuba: May - October is the rainy season, November - April is the tropical season. By the way, it is impossible to say for sure what exactly this or that season will be like, the climate is changing. It happens that in the summer there is a drought, and in the winter it becomes very humid. Tropical cyclones are a common occurrence in Cuba; there can be up to five of them at the same time. However, they rarely turn into hurricanes; as a rule, everything ends in an ordinary storm. If hurricanes occur, it is completely impossible to predict which area will undergo the greatest destruction - each time the elements strike in different places. Hurricanes are possible only in strictly defined months - from June to September.
March is considered the high season in Cuba.. Although at this time there are often cold winds blowing from the Atlantic Ocean, there are also plenty of fine days. The water is getting warmer and the beaches are filled with tourists coming from all over the world. Tropical rains occur extremely rarely in spring, literally three to five days per season.
Although, at a temperature of 27 - 28 degrees above zero, the rains with their refreshing coolness are perceived as a blessing. And the evening becomes my favorite time of day: at sunset the heat subsides, the thermometer shows 17 - 21 degrees. From April in Cuba, day and night temperatures become higher, but the sweltering heat is mitigated by cool trade winds. Even if you walk along the coast, you will not freeze; the average evening temperature is between 21 and 22 degrees Celsius above zero. In spring, it’s nice not only to relax in Cuba, but also to see the sights.
In April, large-scale festivals are held in almost all major Cuban cities. Officially, the high season comes to an end this month, as the stormy and rainy season begins in May. However, local residents prefer to vacation in May, because it actually rains for no more than a week in total, that is, not every day, and they are short-lived (on average, bad weather lasts two hours). At this time, you can have lunch at the hotel, relax, and even take a walk under a real tropical rain. Taking a kind of exotic shower.
Relaxing in Cuba in summer is not so comfortable: stifling heat is approaching the island. In the so-called low season, daytime temperatures reach 32–35 degrees plus, the water warms up to 27–29 degrees. After lunch, the island often falls into the grip of tropical rains, but the showers stop as suddenly as they begin, and do not last long.
After intense rains, water sometimes covers entire streets.. but the sun, having replaced the clouds, very soon warms the air to the usual temperature at this time of year, and the streets take on their original appearance. By the way, the summer Cuban sun behaves quite aggressively, so vacationers are not recommended to stay in direct rays for a long time. Experts advise be sure to take sunscreen with you on vacation and drink as much water as possible. You should also not take part in excursions at this time.
Vacationing in Cuba in the summer, real pleasure can be gained from walking at night (although not all areas are safe at this time). After sunset, the air temperature drops to 22 - 24 degrees plus. If you decide to go swimming at night, don’t forget: at this time there is a high probability of encountering jellyfish; they especially often appear in coastal waters after a storm.
For the most part, local jellyfish are not dangerous, but it is undesirable to come into direct contact with them. Beautiful aurelias can burn you quite badly (by the way, a weak solution of vinegar, which should be used to treat the damaged area, is an excellent remedy for such burns). And if you meet a sinophore whose tentacles look like balls, you risk being in great danger - they are extremely poisonous. After storms, sinophore can often be seen near the shore in the water; at this time, swimming is strictly prohibited. However, lifeguards will definitely inform you about this by placing red flags on the beaches.
The beginning of autumn in Cuba is full of unpleasant surprises. In September - October, as a rule, the island is at the mercy of storms and hurricanes, which trouble the water in the sea and destroy much around, and the air is saturated with moisture.
Tour operators, aware of the decline in tourist flow, are trying in every possible way to attract vacationers to Cuba at this time, promising seductive discounts and making lucrative offers. Moreover, the beginning of autumn is practically no different in temperature from summer, perhaps only a few degrees lower. At the same time, the water in the ocean remains stably +26 + 29 degrees Celsius. The air also remains with a consistently high moisture content, so it takes several days to acclimatize. By the beginning of October, the showers stop almost completely.
Coming to Cuba in early autumn, be especially careful in choosing your place of residence. During this period, it is best to check into hotels located at a decent distance from the water, so as not to end up in a flood zone. Also pay attention to the pumping stations and the presence of an indoor swimming pool, so that you can enjoy good rest even in bad weather.
It gets a little cooler on the island in November, the temperature is set at 26 - 28 degrees above zero. At the same time, precipitation stops; no more than five rainy days are observed in the month. And in November, the tourist flow begins to gain strength, the high season and a favorable climatic period begin. The only thing is that in the first days of the month you need to swim with caution. Since the ocean often has high waves, it is an ideal environment for surfers. For other tourists, it is most comfortable to relax in the Caribbean Sea at this time.
The most favorable period for relaxation occurs in Cuba in winter. However, the higher the demand, the higher the supply, so during the high season, vacationing on the island is quite expensive. In winter, the weather here is ideal for relaxing on the beach and swimming: the average air temperature during the day is 25 - 26 degrees plus, at night -16 - 21 degrees above zero.
The warmest places are Varadero and Santiago de Cuba. It is here that it is most comfortable to swim in winter, when sea water has a temperature of 24 - 25 degrees. There are almost no high waves at sea, only on the northern coast of the island there is sometimes a slight disturbance coming from the Atlantic. In winter, the water is often warmer than the air, and there is virtually no precipitation. On some winter days in Cuba there are short cold snaps of up to +20 degrees, which are caused by northern winds. However, soon everything returns to normal.

TOURISTS' ANSWERS:
Many tourists, going to Cuba in winter, mistakenly assume that they are going in summer. This is wrong. The fact is that Cuba is located in the same hemisphere as Russia, which means that in winter it is winter there. No, of course, there is no snow on Liberty Island, but the likelihood of encountering a cold front is very high.
Winter (December, January, February)
In winter in Cuba, a person who loves warmth may not find it very comfortable. During the day the sun burns mercilessly and you can get sunburned without any problems, but the evenings will be quite cool.
One of Cuba's winter problems is wind. It freezes hotel pools, making them literally icy. Keep this in mind, especially if you are going on vacation with children. The average temperature is around + 26 degrees, but the differences are large. But everywhere has its advantages - excursions, and they are very eventful in Cuba, it is better to visit at this time of year. If your vacation falls specifically in the winter months and you want to lie on the beach in the seal position all day, I advise you to go to the Caribbean coast of the country, where the weather is more stable and comfortable even in winter.
Spring (March, April, May)
Spring is almost the ideal month to visit Liberty Island. And if in March you can still catch temperature fluctuations, then April, May and early June will delight you with weather.
The air temperature is around 29 degrees, and the water warms up to 26. But do not forget to use sunscreen. It is better for children to swim in T-shirts, because a child’s delicate skin will burn instantly in the scorching sun.
Summer (June, July, August)
This time of year in Cuba, everything literally melts from the high temperature, which, coupled with high humidity, creates not very comfortable conditions for some travelers. But there are quite a lot of tourists here at this time. This is due to the large number of different carnivals, festivals and other entertainment events that take place at this time of year.
Autumn (September, October, November)
Those who had the unenviable fate of being caught in a tropical hurricane in Cuba in the summer are unlikely to ever forget that other pleasure. And even though the destructiveness of hurricanes does not occur year after year, at least a couple visit the island per season for sure. Cuba is hit by torrential rains and thunderstorms, and although the water temperature does not drop too much, swimming due to the constant storm and muddy water will be problematic, or rather, impossible.
But prices for accommodation at this time of year are the most attractive; there are very few tourists.
When going on vacation to Cuba, you need to remember that the climate of the Atlantic and Caribbean Seas are different from each other. And the terrain leaves its mark on the formation of the climate in different parts of the country. In the winter season, I definitely recommend going to the Caribbean coast of Cuba, it will definitely be much warmer there than on the ocean.
Is the answer helpful?
When deciding to spend your vacation in Cuba, you should take into account that its climate is completely different from ours, so the tourist season here is slightly shifted.
The most popular time of year among tourists is winter - late autumn - early spring.
The most unfavorable time to visit Cuba may be from May to October. It is at this time that the “rainy season” occurs in Cuba. Of course, prices for tickets at this time are much lower than during the peak season, but you may be unlucky with the weather. In addition to high humidity, frequent and heavy downpours, a traveler may encounter sweltering heat and gusty winds. And if the water temperature in Cuba is acceptable at any time of the year - from +23 °C - 25 °C in winter to +28 °C - +30 °C in summer, then summer winds can also cause strong waves on the sea, so you won’t be able to swim comfortably Always. But for surfing in the summer, there are just all the conditions - warm water and strong waves. So many people choose this season to practice this sport. If you want to go diving, then again it is better to choose winter - the beginning of spring, when nothing will interfere with admiring the life of the underwater world. The weather is clear, almost windless, so you are guaranteed good underwater visibility.
If we analyze the weather in Cuba by season and month, we can note that in the spring optimal conditions for a comfortable holiday occur in March - April. The air temperature at this time is about +26 °C - +30 °C, and it can rain for three days at most, or at most a week a month. It’s interesting that Cubans themselves really like to vacation in April. It's not hot during the day, it's warm in the evening, the weather is quite clear - all the conditions for a good rest. True, a fairly cold wind may blow, but this, as a rule, does not last long.
IN May The so-called rainy season begins, lasting throughout the summer months, and the active influx of tourists ends. The air temperature at this time is very high, +32 °C - +35 °C, the sun is very hot, and the water temperature is from +27 °C to +29 °C. And this stuffiness is accompanied by frequent and strong tropical downpours.
If at the beginning of autumn the weather in Cuba can still be described as “so-so” - heavy downpours, possible storms, high temperatures and humidity - then by the end November The weather is starting to please its guests again. The air temperature drops again to +26 °C - +28 °C, and the total amount of precipitation also decreases. True, at this time a strong wind can still blow, and therefore there can be quite strong waves. But resting at this time is much, much more comfortable.
And finally, the most favorable time for a holiday in Cuba is considered winter. During the day, the air is heated to +26 °C - +29 °C during the day, and the water is around +24 °C - +26 °C. There are no heavy rains or winds at this time, so nothing interferes with a comfortable beach holiday and getting to know the country.
Another benefit of holidaying in Cuba during the winter months is that it is then that the country’s residents hold their numerous festivals and holidays. So, in addition to a beach holiday and exploring local attractions, you can find yourself in the thick of interesting and colorful events. One of the most important national holidays is the Day of Liberation and Victory of the Cuban Revolution, celebrated in the country on January 1-2. As for festivals, the most tempting of them are the International Festival of New Latin American Cinema, which takes place in Havana in early December, the Jazz Plaza jazz music festival, which begins in mid-December, and the Havana Cigar tobacco festival, which takes place in at the end of February. True, even in the summer you can catch an interesting spectacle. After all, in July there is an enchanting festival, and which I personally really dream of attending - the Festival of Caribbean Culture, which introduces the bright and exciting features and traditions of local culture.
