What means should not be used for self-defense. Self-defense
Permit-free self-defense weapons are a topic that concerns many people. The level of crime these days forces every person to think about their own safety and the safety of their property. It is not always possible to call for help in an emergency or call the police. Sometimes you have to rely only on your own strength. Then it will be very useful if you have something with you that you can use for your own protection. It is now possible to purchase self-defense weapons without a license. In this article we want to introduce the reader to its types, talk about the advantages and discuss the disadvantages.
Self-defense weapons that do not require permission in Russia
In order to avoid problems with the law, you need to clearly understand how you can protect yourself. There are protective equipment that requires a license, and those that can be worn freely. In this case, you do not need to have special documents. In each country, the government decides whether it is possible to purchase a particular self-defense weapon without a license. We will talk today about laws relating to territory Russian Federation. Despite the fact that the crime rate in the Russian Federation is not the highest in the world, Russians, like many other inhabitants of the planet, still need to be prepared to protect themselves from attack at any time. So, self-defense weapons that do not require permission:
- an air pistol, a revolver with a power of no more than 7.5 J and a bullet with a caliber not exceeding 4.5 millimeters;
- electric shocker, as well as a spark gun from a Russian manufacturer;
- gas can.
This is something that directly concerns weapons. Of course, there are additional options for protection using improvised means, which include edged weapons, but we’ll talk about this below.
Gas cartridges
When discussing a topic such as types of self-defense weapons without a permit, the first thing that comes to everyone’s mind is a spray can. They come in different types:
- Gas.
- Pepper.
- Nervous.
Experts believe that best weapon self-defense, which does not require permission - this is a gas spray. It is quite popular, especially among women: it weighs little, takes up little space, and is quite easy to use. There is some information that you need to know for correct use. When purchasing a can, the only thing you need is proof that you have reached the age of majority. The following can be said about the advantages of such weapons:
- use on the principle of a simple liquid spray;
- low cost (around five dollars);
- ease of use in psychological terms: not every person can even shoot an attacker in the leg, but spraying liquid is much easier;
- compactness: small size and low weight make it possible to constantly carry the can with you, even in a small handbag.
But there are also disadvantages that you need to know and remember. Firstly, such a remedy does not have a strong intimidating effect. The attacker may not only not run away, but, on the contrary, speed up his movements in order to prevent the victim from using the spray. Therefore, after removing the cylinder, use it immediately. Secondly, under no circumstances use this product in an enclosed space (elevator, corridor, stairs, etc.). In this case, you may suffer along with the bandit and gain nothing from the use. Thirdly, you need to correctly aim the jet from the cylinder, taking into account the direction of the wind. Improper use of such a remedy can harm, first of all, you.
Stun guns
Another self-defense weapon that does not require a permit is a stun gun. It is a miniature device with two wires, which, when the corresponding button is pressed, produce an electrical discharge. The power of the discharge is such that it unbalances an adult. Tasers available different manufacturers and models. There are options that allow you to adjust the power. The following advantages of such weapons are noted:
- the ability to deprive the attacker of the ability to move for a short period of time, so the victim can escape;
- the ability to hit a target from a distance of about four meters (for models that are capable of shooting with electrodes).
But the shocker also has disadvantages that need to be carefully studied before buying such a means of protection:
- Basically, the models require direct contact with the bandit, but the opportunity may not present itself;
- the device runs on batteries, which need to be monitored: changed or charged - otherwise you may find yourself in danger trying to use a non-working stun gun, completely angering the attacker;
- V winter period, when people are warmly dressed, the shocker cannot always penetrate a thick layer of fabric, and the charge will not have the expected effect.
Pneumatics
Weapons of this type are designed more for psychological impact. Outwardly, it is very similar to a firearm, so the attacker will not take risks.
The power of an air pistol is not so strong as to cause serious harm to health, and therefore does not require permission. In addition, it can be used in hand-to-hand combat to enhance the blow. The main thing is surprise and determination. You cannot detect uncertainty or fear in front of a bandit. And also, carry the gun in a place where it will be easy and quick to get. After all, no one will calmly wait until you open your purse and, after rummaging for a long time in a pile of things, pull out a gun.
Self-defense weapon that does not require a permit: "Strike"
The "Strike" device is used to shoot at the enemy using a liquid solution.
This is a kind of mixture of a gas canister and a pistol. It is charged by capsules filled with liquid. You can use this tool for a long time: on average it is designed for 2 thousand shots. The advantage of “Impact” is:
- ability to work independently weather conditions with a firing range of up to five meters;
- the ability to use in a confined space, since the liquid is sprayed in a directed manner, and the risk of harming yourself is minimal;
- small size, which allows you to carry it with you in your bag or pocket.
We cannot ignore the disadvantages of such a tool:
- in order to hit the bandit, you need to aim well;
- the device is not intended for left-handed use;
- When purchasing low-quality capsules, there is a chance of misfire, capsules falling out or liquid leaking.
Self-defense weapon that does not require a permit: "Wasp"
The Osa pistol is another means of defense against bandits using a combination of sound and light. It is capable of stunning and blinding a criminal, temporarily throwing him off balance.
Until recently, such weapons could be used with permission. But now there is a new light and sound device “Antidog”. You do not need any permission to use this device, and its operating principle is the same as that of the Wasp. The following advantages of the device can be mentioned:
- capable of scaring off not one, but several attackers;
- lightweight, compact and easy to use;
- low cost of the device.
The only drawback of the pistol is that it can blind and stun the shooter; accordingly, this must be taken into account before use and the eyes must be closed at the time of the shot.
Cold steel
Such weapons are used even more often than other types. After all, it is always at hand, especially at home.
When purchasing a knife, the documentation immediately indicates whether it is a bladed weapon or not. In Russia, prohibited types include those with a blade longer than 90 centimeters, as well as knives with automatic blade ejection. In addition to the knife, they use such types of tools as stiletto, brass knuckles, machete, etc. It should be remembered that using a knife is even more difficult than shooting. Therefore, not every person is able to perceive it as reliable means protection. It is suitable for people with some martial arts knowledge.
Important to know
Of course, it is best to avoid situations where you will be in danger and forced to defend yourself. But sometimes they are inevitable and do not depend on your desire. In this case, remember a few tips:
- Try to have not one, but two weapon options with you. Some of them will definitely be able to defend themselves.
- Pass short course self-defense, where you will be taught basic rules protection. This will increase the chances of success.
- If you find yourself in a dangerous situation, do not panic, be decisive and do not show your fear.
- Focus on the psychological factor. You need to scare the enemy with the mere presence of a weapon before using it.
- If you decide to shoot, aim correctly. After an unsuccessful shot, you risk ending up in greater danger than before.
- Check the condition of your weapon regularly to avoid ending up with a useless piece of metal in your hand.
Despite the fact that we often have a frivolous attitude towards security requirements, everyone would like to protect themselves from aggression on the street, in transport, in line or at home. Only reliable protection can give you self-confidence.
You should always rely on your own strength, but only the presence of weapons can truly protect a citizen. Unfortunately, every weapon has one negative trait– it can be used against an innocent person.
How to find that fine line defined by law and not cross the line? To do this, you need not only to know what kind of weapon we have the right to carry for self-defense without permission or a license, but also to understand the limits of its applicability.
If we consider this question within the legal framework, then you can legally protect yourself in two radically opposite ways.
- The first is to obtain a license and permit to carry a firearm.
- The second is to use civilian weapons intended exclusively for self-defense and, according to our laws, do not require a license.
Explaining the articles of the Federal Law “on weapons” in a more concise and understandable language will help to avoid conflicts with the law.
Is it possible to use a firearm for self-defense?
It is useful to talk about some topics using the reverse method, so let’s consider what a citizen faces if he uses a weapon for which a permit is provided.
Let's start with the fact that a citizen has no right not only to use some types of weapons, but also to carry them, or store them at home or in a car. All the situations described fall under the violation of the law under Article 222 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation and are qualified as illegal possession. Regardless of the current situation, such a violation will result in imprisonment.
The court, naturally, will take into account the threat to life as mitigating circumstances, but the term of deprivation will not change significantly. It is defined by law and is up to 4 years.
With the mandatory provision of a license, citizens can purchase weapons, which are discussed in the following classification:
- Firearms limited damage. This terminology was used not so long ago, so not everyone is aware of what types civilian weapons fall into this category. In simple words, This traumatic weapon, a firearm with rubber bullets, firing a shot with an energy not exceeding 91 J.
- A smoothbore gun designed for hunting.
- Hunting rifled weapon. Here the approach to issuing a permit is more strict. To obtain such a license, it is necessary to document that wearing, for example, rifled carbine Saiga is associated with professional activities.
- Sporting weapons should only be used in certain types sports (shooting, biathlon).
- Signal weapon. Traditionally it is believed that these weapons are allowed in Russia for self-defense. However, if the caliber exceeds 6 mm, you will have to apply for a permit.
As an educational program, we note that after the issuance of a license and the subsequent acquisition of any of the listed types, you are required to re-appear at the licensing department for subsequent registration. Any violation of document management entails administrative and criminal liability.
Authorized self-defense weapons
The gun store features various types weapons for self-defense. If you do not have a special permit, then the corresponding weapons will not be sold to you. But there is a certain category of citizens who are satisfied with the level of self-defense that is provided by legal means. They do not cause significant injury, but they do cause injury and also have a psychological effect that allows one to defend against attackers.
Weapons, which by law do not require permission to carry, store and use, are divided into several groups. These groups are combined common property, which consists in limiting the damaging effect.
- Pneumatic weapons. A shotgun or pistol that fires small bullets that are kinetic energy due to the movement of the piston. There are also compression guns in which compressed air is stored in special cans.
- Gas canister.
- Various types of bladed weapons used for defense purposes.
- Stun guns.
- Gas pistol. He has damaging substance the same as the can, but in appearance it looks like real gun, which contributes to the demoralization of the enemy.
It is impossible to single out the most acceptable and effective weapon, since each type has both positive and negative qualities.
Air guns
The choice of many buyers falls on air pistols. Due to external resemblance With real military weapons, a good effect is produced on the enemy.
Although on air gun no special permission is required; when purchasing, you should still pay attention to such a parameter as muzzle energy. If its value exceeds 7.5 J, then representatives of the law may require permission. All pneumatic weapons used in the forest for hunting or for clay pigeon shooting are subject to mandatory registration. There is also a limitation on caliber. Up to 4.5 mm has weapons that are on sale.
Pneumatics are distinguished according to the principle of air supply, according to external form bullets, as well as by the rate of fire. In the first case, the air is either supplied by a piston or pre-compressed. Bullets are hemispherical, conical and flat. Depending on the type of bullet, the enemy receives more or less significant damage.
If you choose an effective air gun, then the most effective is the balloon type. The bullet, under the influence of compressed air, flies out of the barrel. Her energy is enough to break through glass bottle, however, in winter a bullet will not pass through thick outer clothing. Therefore, such a pistol is not effective outdoors in winter.
There are no restrictions on storing pneumatic weapons, but there are recommendations. Weapons must be kept out of the reach of children. You can install a safe for these purposes. It is important not to leave the weapon cocked during storage. This involves not only safety issues, but also operating recommendations, otherwise the spring will quickly lose its elasticity.
Gas canister
Inside the pressurized gas cartridge contains irritating substances that act on the skin, eyes, and mucous membranes. When affected, itching, watery eyes, and nosebleeds may occur. The use of gas is completely legal, which is why such weapons are freely sold.
When used, the enemy is temporarily disoriented. During this time, you can run away or call for help. The spray can has become so popular that today it is considered an invariable attribute of a lady's handbag.
- Jet gas canisters emit a damaging substance in the form of a jet. The range of such weapons is great, but the enemy can dodge. And yet, the good thing about the jet type is that it can be used even outdoors and in any weather.
- Aerosol type weapons have large area defeat, despite the fact that the range is significantly lower than that of the jet. This canister is more suitable for indoor use. Outside in the cold and windy weather you won't be able to use it.
Cold steel
The most common means of self-defense without a license is a household knife. This type There are weapons in every home. Being hit with a knife is not so harmless. Sometimes a stab with a knife can lead to death, so only certain specimens are allowed for use.
The parameters for carrying and using a knife without a license comply with GOST. The slightest deviation from these parameters forces the owner to purchase a license.
- The length of the blade does not exceed 9 cm, and the length of the handle – 7 cm.
- If the length of the blade exceeds 9 cm, but not more than 18 cm, then you can use such a knife if it does not have a point.
- With a length over 18 cm, the tip is 100 mm higher than the butt.
Folding knives that have a blade ejection feature are considered prohibited weapons. It should be noted that it is not so easy to stab an enemy with a knife. To do this, there must be a certain physical and psychological preparedness. The law on weapons states that the use of a knife as a means of defense is not recommended due to its ineffectiveness.
Stun guns
Another type of permitted self-defense weapon is stun guns. They are capable of striking with an electrical discharge that is formed between two electrodes. The attacker will be immobilized for some time. It is safe to say that a shock with a stun gun leaves no consequences.
When using a contact shocker, you must come close to your opponent. But there are also remote weapons. Those wishing to purchase a stun gun should remember that only copies are allowed to be used Russian production, and the corresponding certificate must always be with you.
Signal weapons can only be used if their caliber does not exceed 6 mm. Any signal pistol can only attract attention with a noise or light effect, while frightening the enemy.
An example of a weapon is the Osa or Antidog pistol. In addition to its advantages, such weapons have one significant drawback - the impact on the shooter himself. Therefore, to use the wasp, you have to use rather strange rules, in which it is recommended to close your eyes.
Rules for using and carrying weapons without a license
You should not think that the lack of permission for some types of self-defense weapons allows you to use them without restrictions. There are established rules, violation of which entails quite severe punishment. Thus, you can only purchase weapons if you are 18 years old, so you will always have to carry your passport with you.
To carry pneumatics, you must have a passport for the device itself. Weapons may only be used in extreme cases. It is prohibited to use against children, disabled people, and pregnant women.
Even in rule of law A citizen must remember that the main person responsible for his own safety is himself. Of course, thoughts about weapons inevitably come to mind.
Many would like to have it, but they don’t dare - and all because of ignorance.
Those for whom receiving weapons is not a novelty, on the contrary, overestimate its importance.
What weapons do not require a permit?
In Russia, according to Federal Law No. 150-FZ “On Weapons” as amended in 2015, you can find weapons without permission:
- Gas sprayer;
- Stun gun;
- Low action pneumatics;
- Household knife;
- Axe;
- Device "Blow";
- Speargun;
- A signal revolver that cannot be used as a combat revolver.
Anyone over 18 years of age can purchase.
Frankly speaking, these means can be called a weapon with a large advance. That is why they sell it without any delay, because, strictly speaking, it is harmless. Using these means, you will not only not kill anyone, but you are unlikely to even seriously injure them. If the attacker is not impressed by the sight of the barrel pointed at him, then he will not be afraid of a small metal bullet.By the way, carry “air balloons” with you on the streets forbidden— you can only use pneumatic guns at home, as well as during training at a shooting range or shooting range.
If you hit a person in the eye with such a “charge”, nothing good will happen. Your actions will be classified as exceeding permissible self-defense(Article 114 of the Criminal Code).
It's even worse when the aggressor dies.
Article 108 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation describes the consequences of murder in self-defense.
Maximum penalty: two years imprisonment.
What weapons can be purchased without a license?
Gas canister
A spray can is the simplest weapon for self-defense; it is provided without permission or a license in gun stores Russia. To begin with, the psychological effect is zero. Gone are the days when his appearance could scare off an aggressor.
By the way, even if you spray gas, it will not help you much - with watery eyes and partially unfocused vision, the bandit nevertheless does not lose either mobility or strength, and your attempts to defend yourself can only anger him.
Need to remember! Use such weapons not possible in all circumstances. For example, it is strictly forbidden in a small confined space - then you yourself will inhale the “charge” in the company of the attacker. And if you spray in an open space against the wind, you won’t even harm the enemy, only yourself, since the sprayed cloud will fall on you.
Flare gun
A flare gun (rocket launcher) is also considered a weapon for self-defense; you can buy it without permission or a license.
The psychological effect is achieved from a signal pistol; it also does not require permission ( caliber up to 4.5 mm). A more or less good effect is achieved from the Smersh PK-1 model. It is recommended to use it from a distance of up to seven meters.
The gun will not cause serious harm to the attacker, but it is guaranteed to stop him.
The use of this mechanism is justified in all cases where necessary self-defense takes place.
Speargun
A gun for hunting underwater in general, strictly speaking, is not a weapon, since it belongs to sports equipment and is extremely ineffective for self-defense. But, as you know, the bullet is still stupid, but the bayonet (in our case, the knife) is great.
If these types of weapons seem ineffective to you, then pay attention to traumatic or pneumatic weapons. But... you should get them.
And if you decide to sell weapons yourself, then you definitely need a license to sell weapons. Read more.
A license can be given or taken away. The link is indicated possible reasons deprivation of a weapons permit.
There is a chance, albeit small, that the aggressor will flinch when he sees the blade in your hand. At the kitchen or pocket knife The blade is weak, so when protecting you should cut rather than stab. Hit the enemy's arms and legs - your own blood will stop even the most experienced of them, and you will have the opportunity to escape.
A blow to the neck can be fatal and costly.
Do not pull out the knife if you doubt that you will use it!
The most effective weapon for self-defense without a license
A stun gun is the best weapon that does not require a permit.
It is small, compact in size, does not take up much space, and will not cause harm to the owner. It does not arouse suspicion, since it can be disguised, for example, as mobile phone and will not provoke the attacker into further aggression. Vulnerabilities - neck, arms, groin, back, chest.
In addition, it will really stop the aggressor - and not just “prick” with an electric discharge, but knock it out for about half an hour.
But only if you don’t save when purchasing!
A cheap stun gun will not be particularly sensitive for an attacker, and if it is winter outside and your opponent is wearing thick clothes like a down jacket, he may not even feel that you have used anything against him.
When choosing the desired option, it is better to opt for those where the current strength is greater.
As it becomes clear, it is better not to place much hope on freely sold weapons. IN best case scenario it is little more dangerous than a child’s slingshot; at worst, it will play against you or provoke the offender.
About self-defense weapons without a license, such as OSA and others, see further in the video:
In my (author – Dave Scott) self-defense courses for women, I am very often asked to announce a list of the most convenient and effective means of self-defense. I will present it in this article, but before that I would like to touch on several important issues.
First, don't be an easy target. Most of the real criminals are just dangerous people, who can somehow harm you, do not want a fight at all. Therefore, they look for simple targets who are easy to intimidate and get everything they need without too much trouble. So . Don't walk down the street alone at night, staring at your smartphone. Don't leave the bar drunk at 2am. Remember that in most cases it is much easier to prevent a situation than to deal with its consequences later. But if you are already being attacked or threatened, then you must be ready to defend yourself, and both psychological level, and physically.
1. Pepper spray
I have been exposed to pepper spray several times during various exercises and training. And I will tell you that this is a very effective thing. But remember this means of self-defense not 100 percent effective. Some aggressors will still be able to act proactively and purposefully (albeit not as well) after using pepper spray.
So don't stand still after using it. Call for help and get out of there as quickly as you can. One of the important advantages of pepper spray is that the target does not have to be right next to you. Most of these products hit 10-15 feet (3-4 meters).
2. Tactical pen
A tactical pen stuck in the eye, neck or face is an excellent stopping factor that will likely scare off an attacker or give you time to retreat. The disadvantage of this means of self-defense is the need for close close contact. And a physically strong and fast aggressor will be able to block your blow. Therefore, the element of surprise is extremely important. Sometimes, it is more effective to first feign submission before going on the offensive. And if you don’t want to shell out money for tactical pens, just buy a regular one, but with a tough and durable body.
3. Knife handle
A knife pen is a small stiletto, disguised in the body of a regular pen. As a rule, at one end there is a normal working rod, and at the other, closed end, there is actually a knife or stiletto. The aggressor certainly does not expect that the pen is suddenly in your hands.
4. Special “defense” keychain
There are special keychains that can be used as a means of self-defense. Most often, on the principle of brass knuckles with sharp spikes.
5. Pistol
Perhaps the most effective means of self-defense ever created by man. However, as with all other means of self-defense, it is extremely important that the owner of the pistol is well trained and knows how to use it effectively. If you prefer this option, then first find good firearms in your area.
6. Stun gun and taser
Stun guns and tasers can be extremely effective in stopping almost any aggressor. But it is important to remember that these are completely different means of self-defense. A stun gun can only be used effectively through direct contact, making you more vulnerable to an attacker. A taser is more similar to a pistol (and costs no less!), but it shoots wires that attach to the attacker and stun him from a distance. Stun guns are much cheaper, but they stun only while they are working and only while there is direct contact.
For anyone means of self-defense, it is extremely important to be able to use it effectively, as well as to know its advantages and disadvantages
You also need to understand that whenever a weapon is pulled out during an incipient quarrel (whether by the aggressor or the potential victim), this indicates an escalation of the conflict, which makes it much more dangerous. It often happens that all the victim has to do is get self defense weapon, as the aggressor quickly takes possession of it and uses it against her. Don't let this happen to you! And NEVER forget that best strategy in this case – WARN conflict situation. Always remember to maintain situational awareness and control yourself in potentially dangerous situations.
Rules for carrying weapons in Russia are being established Federal law 150-FZ “On Weapons”.
A weapons license in Russia is granted to persons of legal capacity adult citizens and gives them the right to purchase, use, carry and store weapons in accordance with the rules established by law for a period of up to 5 years. A gross violation of public order using not only weapons, but also any objects resembling weapons, is subject to Article 213 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation “Hooliganism”. Crimes under Article 213 of the Criminal Code can be punished not only by a large fine, but also by compulsory or correctional labor, and even by imprisonment. - household knives
- other knives without a point or with a thick blade (more than 5-6 mm), with a short handle or low hardness and strength of the blade material
- saws and hammers
- baseball bats
However, in cases where damage to people’s health was caused by a household knife, bat or other object, this object will already be regarded as a weapon.
