What is the temperature in Tenerife in January. January in Tenerife: a holiday on the Atlantic coast that will not be forgotten
Today I would like to tell you my review about our winter trip to the picturesque in January. The plan was this: to celebrate the New Year 2014-2015 at home, and then escape for a week to bask in the warm sun, which we missed so much in cold and gloomy St. Petersburg.
Since we were flying with the whole family, we began to prepare for our vacation in advance: we booked an apartment and bought plane tickets to the Canary Islands. Early in the morning of January 3, we were already sitting on our suitcases and waiting for a taxi. Our journey has begun!
Flight from St. Petersburg to Tenerife
We decided to save money on the flight by purchasing at a promotional offer: in Berlin and Munich. Considering that we had a blast on New Year's Eve, choosing such a difficult route was a mistake. The flight from St. Petersburg to Berlin took about two hours, from Berlin to Munich an hour and another 4 hours from Munich to Tenerife itself. We flew with German airlines AirBerlin, which I was also not happy with. Even during the five-hour flight from Munich to the south, we were offered only cold sandwiches.
Advice: If possible, choose, especially if you are flying. Don't start your vacation with negative impressions. And don't forget to bring something to snack on the plane.
Hello Canary Islands!
Despite all our fatigue after a long flight, we were incredibly amazed by the beauty and unusualness of the place in which we found ourselves. At first glance, it reminded me of some kind of mountain desert. Even though it was January, the weather and air temperature were far from winter: about 25 degrees Celsius. We decided to get to our pre-booked apartments by taxi. What I was very surprised by was the inability of taxi drivers to speak fluently in English. It took us about five minutes to explain where we were actually going.
Advice: While still at home, print out the address of your future home so you don’t have to waste time on explanations.
Apartments for rent
We agreed with the owner of the apartment on Airbnb. In fact, there are a huge number of profitable and not so profitable offers for rental housing in Tenerife, you just need to know how to search. Our apartments, located in the area, were truly enormous in size. Two floors, 6 rooms, stunning views from the balcony: what more could you ask for!
Of course, the house contained such things as a modern person needs, such as a refrigerator, stove, washing machine, dishwasher and the Internet. There was our personal pool in the courtyard, in which we, unfortunately, only swam a couple of times. The water in the ocean was cold for us. Despite the high air temperature and clear weather, it was quite windy all week.
Advice: If you are traveling in a large group or with your family, be sure to book an apartment in Tenerife, it will be cheaper than if you stay in a hotel.
Where to go?
Since we had children with us, unfortunately, we were almost unable to visit. However, we walked a lot in the nearby area. Our favorite route was walking along the embankment. Since a strong wind was blowing from the sea, it was not at all hot to walk. But swimming in January was quite problematic: it was about twenty degrees. Personally, I only had enough for a few heroic swims.
On the shore there are a huge number of various restaurants and eateries where you can have a snack or drink some sangria. By the way, I definitely recommend trying real Spanish sangria: it’s incredibly delicious! As for souvenirs, the island is not amazing: ordinary magnets, keychains and a bunch of phallic-shaped wooden bottle openers. Although this, of course, is not for everyone. I would also like to say something about shopping. You can find many stores of famous brands. Most of the brands, although they are Spanish, are no cheaper than in Russia. However, the selection in stores is good, so it’s still worth bringing some clothes.
Advice: Don’t run headlong to the first diner you come across on the shore, where the employee of this establishment will invite you. Go around several places, compare prices and selection.
Village "Mask"
One hour by bus and you can find yourself in this stunning place. Mountains, small houses, neat flower beds: all this is fascinating. I definitely recommend visiting!
Food
During our entire trip we visited only a few times: Japanese and fish. The food was delicious, but given the opportunity to cook at home, it was useless. Most often we bought groceries in a huge supermarket called Mercadona. There you can find fresh fruits/vegetables, sanctioned delicacies, and the freshest seafood for every taste. The quality of the products is much higher than in our stores, and the price is quite reasonable. The only negative: on Sundays large stores are closed, so you had to buy in advance or visit minimarkets, where, of course, there is no such choice.
Advice: If you have the opportunity and desire to cook at home, then do not spend money on restaurants. Believe me, the food you prepare will be no worse, and maybe even tastier.
Impressions and conclusions
- The island is good at any time of the year, but I would still recommend coming here in the summer/autumn period, when the water temperature allows you to swim comfortably.
- If you have the opportunity to do laundry at home, then you shouldn’t take a lot of things with you. Shorts, a few T-shirts/T-shirts and a swimsuit will be enough.
- It is better to go for a longer period than a week. There are so many places on the island that are worth visiting; in a week you risk not having time to visit everywhere you planned. Even with a small child, we found so many things to do and relax in Tenerife in January!
That's all I wanted to tell you. I hope mine was useful to someone. Thank you for your attention and have a wonderful trip!

Climate and weather in Tenerife in January: weather, holidays and prices in winter
The island of eternal spring, as Tenerife is often called, is always beautiful. Everything is always in bloom here, it’s always warm and almost always sunny. Why is it almost always sunny? It’s just that in the winter months precipitation is possible over the island, and in general, the weather in Tenerife in January 2020 is the coolest of the entire year. The water temperature in the first month of the year does not rise above twenty degrees Celsius, and the air is warmed up to +17, which is excellent for walks and excursions, but not suitable for beach holidays and swimming in the ocean.
However, January is one of the months when there are a lot of tourists on the island. There is only one reason: Christmas and New Year holidays in most countries of the world. Agree, many will agree to relax in a place where it’s +17 during the day, and not where it’s minus seventeen. And tourists are not even bothered by the fact that swimming is not allowed; they are attracted by the availability of tours in Tenerife at this time of year.
We'll talk about prices and availability later, but for now it's better to pay attention to the weather. As already written above, during the day the thermometer stays at +17 degrees. Of course, this is not the best temperature for the region, but everything is better than the severe frosts in Russia. Although sometimes the sun is a little more active and warms the air to +22 degrees. But even on these rare days there is no desire to swim, since the blowing wind is not very pleasant, and sometimes cold.
As darkness falls, the temperature drops. The local climate and geographical location of the island does not allow the air to cool to sub-zero temperatures or even zero, so at night it is about +12 +15 degrees. There are almost no sudden temperature changes at night, so you shouldn’t expect frosts or, conversely, warmer nights. Walking in the evening is possible, but you should wear warmer clothes to feel more comfortable. Better yet, spend the evenings in restaurants or other establishments where there will be no wind and the weather outside will be clearly warmer.
The ocean off the coast of Tenerife rarely changes its temperature. It is extremely difficult to warm up or, on the contrary, freeze such a quantity of water. In January the water here will be +20 +22 degrees. For comparison, the warmest sea in this area occurs in September and it warms up to +24 degrees. But in September the weather is different during the day, about +30 degrees Celsius, so you can swim here in the fall, but almost not in the winter. Plus, in the middle of winter, winds that blow from all sides raise waves on the sea. For surfers, this is a paradise, but ordinary tourists can only watch how at least someone enjoys the sea.
The daylight hours are starting to increase little by little. At the beginning of the month it was 10.4 hours, and at the end it was about 10.8 hours. Of course, the increase is not so significant, but you need to know where Tenerife is geographically and everything will become clear by itself.
There are 31 days in January and 18 of them will be sunny. 18 is the average figure calculated from observations over the past five years. Also, if we take these observations, we can say that 1-2 days this month are rainy. It turns out that for about 10 days there is simply cloudy weather, when there is no precipitation, but there is no sun either.
As for precipitation, its amount is 26 millimeters per month. This is not a lot and when compared with two months earlier, it is a mere trifle.
Weather features in Tenerife in January
In January, Tenerife is warmer than Mallorca. It is not for nothing that the island is called the island of eternal spring. Rainfall mainly occurs in the northern part of Tenerife and this is where the main vegetation grows. In the north of the island, at any time of the year, there are huge banana groves, vineyards, dates and other forests.
The island is not the largest, but its area is impressive. But this is not the main thing, but the main thing is that the weather in different regions of Tenerife is completely different. For example, if somewhere the sky is cloudy, then on the other side of the island at the same time the sun is shining and warming tourists. The same applies to cloudy weather. At the same time, in different places on the island there may be sun all day, or the sky may be covered with thick clouds.
Who said winter is not the season for travel? Don't believe it! Of course, it depends where you go. Paris or Prague at this time of year is not an acquired taste: rain, cold, bare landscapes. But a trip to Spain, for example, to Tenerife, in January will give you new impressions and a reason to show off your summer photos to your friends. At the beginning of the year it is warm, sunny and relatively low prices.
In January you can see a rainbow in Tanerife.

Weather in January in Tenerife
Tenerife is called the island where eternal spring reigns. It is warm here all year round, there is a lot of sun and greenery. January is no exception. This month The air temperature on the island does not fall below 15°C. Agree, after our January frosts, this weather is simply paradise.
However, when going to Tenerife, you definitely need to take warm clothes with you- a couple of sweaters, a windbreaker, preferably with a hood, jeans. The weather here, of course, is more or less constant, but the island itself is as changeable as a young girl. They give him this character different climate zones. Researchers counted 28 of them here. A common occurrence is when the sun is shining in the southern part of the island and people are sweltering from the heat, and in the north it is raining.
Weather forecast for Tenerife for January 2019.
Natalya Vasilchenko, Perm:
“The weather in Tenerife in January is surprisingly unpredictable. If you spend the whole day in one place, say, on the beach, then you don’t have to expect any surprises. And if you travel around the island, then in a day you can be under the hot sun, and in the rain, and chilled to the bones in the wind.”
Listen to the feedback from your fellow countrymen and stock up on warm clothes. It is best to wear jeans and a T-shirt in Tenerife, and put a sweater and jacket in your bag. And don't forget the umbrella! Then the time spent on Tenerife will not be wasted, and exploring the island will bring pleasure and give many exciting discoveries.
What to see in Tenerife in January
What is interesting about Tenerife in January? In addition to sunny days and lush green landscapes The island offers its guests entertainment for every taste. In winter, almost like any other time, there are many tourists here, especially from Europe.
Here are some ideas on how to have an interesting holiday in Tenerife in January.
Holidays on the Atlantic coast
Tenerife is washed by the waters of the Atlantic Ocean, which is already something exotic for residents of Russia. Therefore even in January, when the water is only 20-21°C, you cannot miss the opportunity to swim in it. For those who find this temperature too low, hotels have swimming pools, usually heated. So you definitely need to take a swimsuit with you.
In January, the sea water becomes cool, only 20-21°C.

In addition to swimming on the coast, you can find other entertainment:
- The beaches of Costa Adeje, Las Americas and Los Cristianos are popular among tourists. Excursions on a yacht or boat are organized here, or you can admire the local beauty from a paraglider.
- Fans of diving will be able to observe underwater life, and fishermen will be able to catch an exotic catch from the shore or boat.
- Windsurfers will experience the joy of conquering huge waves.
- Those who prefer a relaxing holiday will be able to sunbathe on the warm sand, which is also unusual for January.
Excursion routes
The trip experience will be incomplete without excursions. And tourists are increasingly booking excursions via the Internet. This is more convenient for several reasons. Can:
- take your time to read the description and reviews and choose what you like;
- do not fuss and do not waste precious time on the island searching and purchasing excursions;
- buy in advance from home and pay by card;
- There is more choice online than in any agency, and prices are 15-20% lower, because... no agency fee.
The most popular excursions in Tenerife this year:
- - 6 hours, € 132
for 1-3 people or €42 per person if there are more of you - - 7 hours, € 144
for 1-2 people or €54 per person if there are more of you; - - 8 hours, € 180
for 1-3 people or €60 per person if there are more of you; - - 6 hours, € 120
for 1-2 people or €60 per person if there are more of you; - - 9 hours, 106 €.
Anyone who has ever been to Tenerife will forever remember the picturesque landscapes, completely unusual to the eye of a resident of Russia. This is especially true of the northern part of the island, which is surrounded by the greenery of tropical plants and exotic flowers.
The pearl of this splendor is . It received this name for the richest collection of these birds, of which there are at least 500 species. You can wander around the complex all day, to meet the inhabitants of a huge aquarium and zoo, watch a show of sea animals, and admire orchids in the botanical garden. Many tropical plants bloom in January, so the excursion will be interesting. There are several cafes in the park where you can eat Italian and Spanish cuisine and fast food. Each of them also prepares dishes for children. The price of tickets to the park is 22 euros per child and 33 per adult.
See how cool it is at the Loro Park Aquarium:
Tourists leave a lot of reviews about places such as the Miniature Park, where miniature models of the attractions of the Canary Islands are presented.
Watch a video review of the miniature park:
Don't miss it either excursion to Monkey Park. Here you can pet and feed the monkeys by hand. Tickets here are inexpensive: 5 euros for children and 10 euros for adults.
The most famous place on the island is the Maska Gorge. They say that these places were the refuge of pirates; here and now, with some luck, you can find hidden treasures.
Take a walk along the Maski gorge:
The Guimar pyramids are no less famous. You should definitely take a photo near them - they say that such a photo will bring good luck.
See a panorama of the Guimar pyramids:
Vladimir and Irina Sibiryakov, St. Petersburg:
“We are impressed by the Monkey Park! The lemurs and green monkeys were so cute, they climbed into our arms. We bought them food, which is offered at the entrance to the park, but they refused it. But dates and bananas were snatched right out of our hands.”
New Year in Tenerife
When going on holiday to Tenerife on the eve of the New Year, many tourists expect a grand celebration. However, we have to disappoint you - in the Caribbean archipelago, New Year's celebrations are quiet. The only thing you can count on is fireworks in the central squares of cities and a festive program in some restaurants.
What New Year is complete without fireworks?
flickr.com/sackerman519
Among the New Year's traditions of the island, one can be noted - when the clock strikes, counting down the last seconds of the outgoing year, it is customary to eat 12 grapes - for good luck.
Olga Chubarova, Tula:
“In December 2016, my husband and I bought tickets to Tenerife for the New Year holidays. We thought it would be fun. But a holiday without a traditional Christmas tree and Olivier salad with champagne seemed boring to us. But now we boast that on New Year’s Eve we swam in the Atlantic Ocean. We are thinking about celebrating New Year 2019 here too.”
Other January holidays
On January 6, 2019, you can take part in the traditional holiday of the Three Magi. On this day, local residents organize ceremonial processions in the streets. Music plays everywhere and theatrical performances on biblical themes take place. And the “magi” hand out sweet gifts to everyone.
On January 20, residents of the city of Adeje traditionally honor Saint Sebastian, the protector of animals. His statue is taken to the ocean, in the waters of which the townspeople bathe their pets.
At Christmas, nativity scenes are set up on the streets.
Shopping in Tenerife in January
After Christmas there are many sales in Tenerife boutiques. At this time, here you can buy clothes and perfumes from famous brands with discounts of 30-40%, and in some places even cheaper.
Some of the lowest prices in January in the Canaries are for alcohol. A bottle of good Spanish wine can be found for just one to one and a half euros, which is lower than prices even at duty-free at island airports.
If you are planning to buy souvenirs, then you need to go to the traders at fairs to get them.
Such funny figures will be a fun reminder of your holiday in Tenerife.

Ivantsov family, Tyumen:
“On the advice of friends, we went to the local market to buy gifts for friends. And they didn’t regret it. There’s so much to see here - cute toys and figurines, the finest silk scarves, original magnets, exotic fruits! And very inexpensive. We bought a bag full of gifts - it was difficult to stop.”
Prices in Tenerife in January
Of course, prices in the Canary Islands, by definition, cannot be low, but at the beginning of winter they are much more affordable than in other seasons.
Thus, the average price of a tour to Tenerife for two in a 4-star hotel for 10 days in the coming January is 1,500 euros. The prices are comparable to holidays in Turkey.
If you want to be in summer in the middle of a cold winter, then the best choice is Tenerife. Immerse yourself in this island with all your heart, and you will take away so many impressions from here that they will last until your next vacation.
If you are still hesitating whether to go or not, then watch Dmitry Krylov’s program “Bad Notes”:
The Internet is replete with a huge number of proposed tours to the island of eternal spring, promising a beach holiday at any time of the year. Independent travelers most often prefer to study the features, including the climate, of the places where they plan to go.
This is a separate topic that deserves attention and description, since they are too contradictory. Let's start with the fact that in the winter of 2013/2014 I visited 3 main areas of the island, which I am going to immediately tell you about.
My family’s first location was the Northern resort town of Puerto de la Cruz, where we went by taxi from the Northern airport of the island:
Tenerife is very different in the North and South of the island, and while here in Puerto De La Cruz it rains and the temperature barely reaches 18 degrees, in the South of the island they enjoy a hot sunny day.
Puerto de la Cruz
Temperature in Tenerife now
I will note right away that this place is controversial and tourists who visited Puerto de la Cruz differ fundamentally from the reviews of tourists who visited this place in the summer. The huge city, spread out in the mountains and descending to the ocean coast, is impressive even at the entrance to it. The best location in Puerto de la Cruz is a hotel or apartment overlooking the ocean. What star rating the hotel will have and how far it will be located from the beaches is of course up to you, but be sure to pay attention to where the windows of your room face and whether it has a balcony. The ocean in the north of the island, where Puerto de la Cruz is located, is magnificent. This is not a gentle warm sea of azure color, in which it is a pleasure to swim, this is a powerful force of cold water, falling on the coastal rocks with a characteristic sound. You can admire this spectacle endlessly, which is what elderly and very elderly Europeans actually do, of which 90 percent are in five-star hotels in this part of the island, just like on the streets of the city. Only surfers, who can be seen on the beaches in any weather, dare to conquer the harsh ocean in the North. As for the weather, during the 3 days of our stay in this part of the island the sun shone once before lunch on the first day, after lunch it began to drizzle, which gradually turned into downpour, the second day was gloomy, but without rain, just like the third. Precipitation here in winter occurs very often and quite unexpectedly. Sweaters and jackets came in handy for us, since even during the day in sunny weather the temperature barely exceeded 18 degrees. For young people, this is a rather boring place, however, those who do visit Puero de la Cruz in the summer are often impressed by the lush vegetation and the calm, peaceful holiday on the ocean. In winter, of course, if you want sun and a swim in the ocean at least once, you should not go to this part of the island, as you may be disappointed in your vacation, in the island, and in the resort, but this will be an unfair disappointment, since it is rainy and cloudy it’s not always here, and in the island of Tenerife as a whole you can’t be disappointed at all, since in the south of the island the microclimate is completely different.
The second location for my family was the southwestern resort of Los Gigantes.
Los Gigantes
Holidays in Tenerife in winter:
Winter holidays in Tenerife could be beachy! I tell you this with complete confidence, because when we arrived on December 30, 2013 in the southwest of the island, we were in shock. Temperature +25 degrees and sun, not a single cloud in the sky and not a single rain in 4 days in this part of the island. The peculiarity of the resort, just like in Puero de la Cruz, is a stunning view of the ocean, and in the case of Los Gigantes, also of the rocks of the same name. Since there is no long sandy beach in Los Gigantes, there is only a very small beach with black sand, which we will definitely talk about in an article dedicated to the beaches of Tenerife, choosing a hotel or apartment close to the beach is not very rational. Moreover, in Puerto Santiago, adjacent to Los Gigantes, there is a more pleasant (in my opinion) La Arena beach. It is worth staying in Los Gigantes, again, based on the star rating, hotel and room that suits you, but with a view of the ocean. In the southwest the ocean is stormy, but not as stormy as in the north. Los Gigantes climbs up the mountains with a ladder, so everyone can see it like in a movie theater. We settled in a five-star hotel at the very top and did not regret it at all, since the panorama was fabulous, and when you wanted to sunbathe on the beach, you could use one of the free taxi transfers to one of the two black sand beaches. The streets in Los Gigantes run like a snake, and even a short distance to the eye takes 15 minutes to cover, so going to the beach on your own, which seemed to be just a stone’s throw away, meant a long walk from the mountain, and back up the mountain along winding streets. The resort is quiet and absolutely not suitable for parties. In the evenings everything becomes silent and falls asleep. However, the main contingent of tourists is not elderly people, but families with and without children from 30 to 50. This is also explained by the fact that in Los Gigantes it will be difficult for elderly people to travel along long winding routes, and families tired of the huge From bustling all-inclusive hotels in resort areas, you can relax in Los Gigantes in peace and quality.
The third location of my family was the respectable southern resort of Costa Adeje.
Costa Adeje
This is, perhaps, one of the few places where I didn’t want to leave and where it’s worth returning, since during my 5 days of stay I didn’t manage to do even 1/5 of what I had planned. Beautiful weather, just like in the southwest. Not a hint of rain or cloudiness. Wide streets, luxury hotels, beautiful beaches and a huge amount of entertainment for every taste. I won’t dwell on the beaches in detail, I’ll just note the sand is yellow in color with an admixture of small shells and pebbles, which when walking gives the impression of prickly sand. After the fine and unusually soft black sand, the beaches of Adeje do not win in terms of softness, but the panoramas and beach activities of bananas, parachutes and scooters, to mini golf and restaurants with fresh fish, certainly smooth out all the nuances. In Costa Adeje, getting a location overlooking the ocean is no longer so easy. Five-star hotels with majestic palaces are located on the very approaches to the beaches and in the depths of the resort on hills, but not everyone can afford to stay in them. Personally, I have the following opinion on this issue: in the beautiful resort of Costa Adeje it is better to live in apartments, and with the money that you do not spend on a pretentious hotel you can have fun from morning to night, no one will be bored here!
They may be different, but the summary of my article is that a winter holiday in Tenerife was not just a success, but it was so great that I will definitely repeat it!
I wish you a wonderful holiday, experiment with resorts and hotels, study the weather and attractions and then you will truly enjoy your trip.
At the beginning of January, the dream of the last few years came true - we flew away for a warm winter vacation. Far from our weather and our people if you know what I mean. For a whole week! Happiness :)
Now a lot of time has passed, I may not remember the exact numbers and sequence of events. Let this be a post for memory in general. Here are collected photos from Instagram, VKontakte, something from the bins of the phone. That’s why I prepared the post for so long - until you collect everything and write it down... And I wanted to schematically describe the trip, but it turned out to be a whole canvas :)
Preparation.
At first, I wanted to carefully prepare for the trip - lists of what I wanted to see, renting a car in advance, etc. But Igor was so depressed in anticipation of this trip (“Why didn’t Pervalka please you?” his eyes seemed to ask every time I started talking about the imminent! imminent! trip) that I gave up on everything. Or rather, of course, I read a little about the island, literally outlined places of desire. On the island itself, Igor came to life, we bought several excursions and rented a car. All without fanaticism and super-control, that is, in the relaxation mode “oh come on? - come on!”. And in general, I saw everything I wanted! And what I saw struck me to the very depths of my soul.
Photo to attract attention. One of my favorite places: the black sand of De la Arena Beach.
Departure was around 7.30. It was just severely frosty, I’ll also write this for memory. And although I chose Tenerife based on the principle of “mild climate change taking into account the Lithuanian winter,” everything worked out As always - and we flew to +23 from -20.
The plane arrived on time, there were about 180 people on board, that is, the plane was large.
On the way to the airport we stopped by to visit friends, I gave them my car to use during our absence, for which they drove us to the plane in it, and then met us a week later.
The flight was scheduled to last about 6 hours. In fact, we flew on 9, because there was a strong headwind, we had to land in Malaga for refueling and all that.
This is a photo from a magazine on board. Why, I’m still laughing at the imagination of advertisers)))
There were a lot of children on the plane. Minimum 12 from infants to 3 years old, then older, so they did not shine.
And in general, no one screamed or became hysterical. Beauty. At some point, the children all tumbled out into the aisle (except for the infants) and began to play on their own. Everyone had a lot of toys. The adults in the chairs closest to the aisle were as sympathetic as they wished; some even played with other people’s children. And in general, everyone reacted very loyally to the children.
I’ll show Bob, I won’t show other people’s children (all this privacy and all that).
In general, we flew and flew. I'm 27 weeks pregnant. The only inconvenience is that I want to somehow sit less or lie down altogether. But overall it's ok.
We've arrived. During the landing, the pilot says, “+13 overboard.” I don't know why he said that. You see, I promised Igor that it would be warm, but here it’s almost like Pervalka. And I don’t really care, the main thing is that it’s not -20, but I told my husband so much about this paradise in the middle of winter, and here it’s +13!
The doors of the plane open, we go out along the ramp, well, there is wind on the runway. And it was so warm, so dry and smelled of salt that I just cried. I remember this wind, this taste of warmth right after winter.
Crying, of course, was not the point there, although I can do anything, so I walked around with tears in my eyes for another 2 or 3 hours, when we had already had lunch at the hotel. Happiness to the point of tears, just imagine.
At the airport we were met by the managers of the thesis tour, the weight of the plane tree. They put us on the bus. And we are in sweaters and winter shoes. And we can’t take off our sweaters. We've taken off our jackets, but we can't put on sweatshirts - we can't raise our hands. And everyone around is in T-shirts and shorts, the temperature is +22! And we are in sweaters, and I cry and shake Igor by the sleeve every 10 seconds, “look! look!”
And there are some incredible cacti with two floors, red and black sandy soil, black roads with white markings!
Then I look - ahead is Teide, a volcano. Such a mountain. I only saw the mountains on the Black Sea and don’t remember my impressions. I only understand that everything is different here. Something sharper and more contrasting. And Igor was like: oh, palm trees.
That is, for example, he has never seen palm trees on the streets.
We arrived, the streets are narrow, endless roundabouts (tiny in diameter), everything is so tiny and non-horizontal. And I’m still looking through the rainbow of tears that have flowed...
This is roughly the view from the bedroom and bath of our room: the houses are up, and behind them in the distance is the Teide volcano.
We were checked in an hour after arriving at the hotel. That is, it was like. We left our things in the storage room and went to the restaurant for lunch, it was just that time.
We arrived and there was a buffet there. Well, of course we pounced! Because I want to try everything wild!
As a result, I don’t know how many times I went to add paprika rings to myself, they are so juicy and thick, it’s crazy!
Then we checked into the apartment - two rooms (living room + bedroom), a bathroom with a bathtub and a large balcony.
We're waiting for dinner.
This is a view from the balcony of the hotel grounds at dawn, slightly to the left of the previous photo.
On the day of arrival we ate, then slept for a long time during the day, then I don’t remember what we did, then we ate again. And immediately after dinner they fell back to sleep.
The difference between Vilns and Tenerife is 2 hours, not in our favor, that is, our child is used to going to bed at 21, add to this the early rise in the morning, a difficult flight, and climate change. And finally, dinner, so that after it we can go to bed. But dinner ends only at 19, which is 21 Vilnius time! We barely survived to sleep at night, in short.
The next morning we woke up before 5am. We got up. It was drizzling and it was slightly chilly. We hung out in the room and went to the very opening of the restaurant for breakfast.
Well, why don’t I take a photo of my food?!
There is a long heated table with hot dishes. Vegetable part.
I also took pictures of the meat one, but for some reason I can’t find the photo.
I must say that the food there is very tasty. The cuisine is European classic, very varied, every evening they prepared something specific. For example, there was an evening of Chinese food - there was a chef standing there and shoo-shoo preparing everything right in front of you! Or grill evening. Or seafood cuisine.
Fruits and vegetables, of course, always.
Fresh. Well, I swept away tons of it all.
A few days later, when we were finally able to try almost everything from these tables, we saw that they bake pancakes for breakfast here! And from then on, for breakfast they began to eat only oatmeal, pancakes with jam, and Bob always took a boiled egg in a stand. After returning home, for a long time he demanded pancakes for breakfast, and I baked them! I just found a ready-made mixture in the store, it turned out to be tasty and the composition was good. And you don’t need to fuss to bake 10 small pancakes.
So here it is. We had breakfast and went to explore “to the sea”. The people are all in shorts and T-shirts, but we are persistent - in jeans and sweatshirts!
Costa Adeje goes down to the water in rather steep hills, everything is clean, somehow welcoming and a little bit like something out of a movie. And of course it’s warm :)
We went down to the nearest beach, the tide was just beginning. These traces will then not be visible at all, because here the abyss will come and swallow you up.
We arrived very early, we had never been to the beach before. Gradually, people began to form, the clouds cleared, the sun became hot. And it got really hot! It's about 10 o'clock in the photo.
What follows seems to be a photo not from that day, but that’s not the point. I want to say that the surf is very aggressive. The rams are so twisted that you can’t calmly pass through the peboy’s line into the water. He hits and throws like crazy! And the sand washes away from under your feet, so you don’t even understand whether you’re walking or standing, although you seem to be moving your feet to move towards the shore or away, or just to stay on your feet - you’re straining, but there’s no sand under you anymore, and you are already falling so beautiful.
Bob was afraid of the surf (and rightly so); he went swimming with his dad. Dad, of course, is our hero in this sense - you need to stand on your own feet and rinse the child to your heart's content!
We walked back to the hotel through steep mountains and sunny days. I thought I would die from the strain. But thank God we got there. And then there’s the pool! Bob, inspired by swimming in the ocean, began to break into the pool. And again Igor heroically participated in Bobbin’s water activities.
It is stated that the water in Tenenife pools is all heated. But I decided to climb up to my waist just once. Igor swam, but Bob was ready not to get out at all. He's a walrus, just so you know.
We decided not to walk to the ocean anymore, well, what the hell. Only if you go down, but don’t go up, yes.
A shuttle bus runs from the hotel to the beaches at scheduled times. But if anything, you can use public transport. The schedule hangs at the stops, just like everything in Vilnius!
The nature there is absolutely crazy. It is clear that this is out of habit, but still. We are crossing the road, and then a bean the size of a very large banana falls on our heads. Bob - in the sense of bob, not Bob.
This is the tree where he fell from.
We then opened it at home. I assume that this is some kind of giant acacia. Because the bean is dry and flat, and inside there are these kind of giant peas.
In! And here is our window into the bedroom, and on the right there is a door - the entrance to the apartment.
About other days now.
One of the excursions that we bought on the spot was not even an excursion, but a diving course for Igor. Training and immersion. The entertainment lasts only 5 hours, during which time Bob and I ate together on a shuttle to a distant beach, not the gray one where Igor and I had been the day before.
Here the sand turned out to be white and the water turquoise!
We collected shells there and dug in the sand. An old Frenchman came up to us and we talked about shells and who came from where and when. This and that. And I wanted to say something so important, something that would make him feel good. I say: my son and I are watching Jacques Cousteau’s program.
The old man looked up from searching for shells under our feet and said: Who is this?
Then Bob and I walked back from the beach to the point where the shuttle stops. It was early 12 noon, we ate some fruit, washed it down with water, and then the bus arrived.
After this point, the shuttle went to other beaches, it was about 40 minutes on the way, Bobas was exhausted and he happily slept all the way to the hotel.
I woke up near the hotel, we went to lunch, came to the room and went to bed, and then Igor returned from diving. We slept, had dinner and went to the supermarket to SEE.
The intensity of the day is just off the charts)))
Evening, warm.
In general, a supermarket is like a supermarket. The only thing is the very strange and unusual arrangement of departments and products for us.
We only needed to buy 3 things, so we walked around the entire store up and down several times before we found what we needed.
By the way, water on the island is worth its weight in gold, so of course, at least drink some water at the restaurant, but we always bought a lot of bottles for ourselves at home.
Fish counter.
Have you seen? Have you seen it? 10 euros per kg of huge shrimp! Yes, if they didn’t feed me for slaughter in the restaurant, I would have stocked up on these shrimp and fish here!!!
Unknown garbage that locals bought in bags.
Then I saw some of these in our restaurant and tried them. This is something like halva (it’s not clear what it’s made from). I didn’t like it, Igor and Bob generally don’t eat this.
By the way, I’ll take a break and go have some tea with our sunflower halva.
Huge sausages and hams. Not sticks like ours, but almost like balls. We haven't tried any.
We could barely move our legs for the first 5 days, we were so overfed. Well, really, like children of war... That there was nothing to buy in the store!
Vegetables and fruits are all gigantic. Paprika is the size of a head. The price is, for example, 1.10 euros per kg, so I took one “average” paprika and it cost me 0.80 cents.
I put an orange in the photo to compare sizes, and Igor said: so what, the orange is also gigantic.
These croutons are popular, mini biscotti. Spread jams and sauces on them and crunch them.
Vegetable sets. Look cool!
Let the meringue be my souvenir. I had nowhere else to eat, but I steadfastly crunched on it!!!
We don’t seem to have anything like that - crackers with non-Russian flavors. For example, with dried tomatoes.
Lots of baked goods. We only bought donuts (otherwise they don’t feed us at the hotel, yeah). The donuts are divine!!!
Rolls without filling for self-dressing. Convenient!
There are a lot of different sets for salads.
And all the local people there are fat. These are in the body.
And to the topic of food. Here is one of our dinners. Huge shrimp and mussels.
When we returned home a week later, we weighed ourselves. Igor lost 1 kg, Bob seemed to gain half a kilo, and I gained +5. +5, Karl!
True, I experienced swelling on the eve of departure, but not by 5 kilos!
-----
We also went to the volcano, but I’ll write a separate post about that.
-----
In addition to the volcano on the island, I was interested in the Monkey Park with lemurs, the black beach and driving along these strange roads.
And all this happened in one beautiful day.
A car with a child seat cost us 42 euros per day. There is no need to buy additional gasoline. As the manager explained to us, the island is so small that cars are not given out with a full tank, and then they do not require the return of gasoline, because even with a quarter tank you will drive around the entire island a hundred times.
By the way, gasoline is 10-20 cents cheaper than in Lithuania.
We took the smallest car from the catalogue. Actually, here it is. And she is really very small!
The roads are of course doooooooooooooooooooooooooooo! Out of habit, you drive and your eyes widen from the number of turns and junctions. Igor downloaded a map of the island at home in advance, so we had a navigator on our tablet with us. And so Igor navigated, and I taxied. And although the movement is not fast, we still missed the necessary turns several times and drove in circles a little.
To be fair, I note that when you drive along the same path more than once, your eyes return to their place from your forehead.
In short, I really liked it! Wow, how cool it was!
For me, the experience was both enjoyable and exciting (not stressful), and it was actually cheaper than diving! (The diving session cost 80 euros, and note - not a day, but 5 hours in total).
So if we go to Tenerife again, I will definitely take a car! And for longer :)
First we rolled into the lemur coop. Especially in the morning, when it’s not hot, there are few visitors and the animals are not very full.
There is a rather large park there with crocodiles, monkeys, parrots and a cafe. It has open areas, for example, here with cacti. And there are closed lattice enclosures where you go in and close the door behind you.
You take out a bowl of food from your stash, and all the fun begins)))
Lemurs and crowds of guinea pigs!
And many more different monkeys behind the glass. But this is not as impressive as living warm lemurs and guinea pigs)))
Then we returned home, ate, slept and drove by car to the black beach, another dream place.
And so the sand turned out to be really black!
So black, like still hot asphalt before laying.
Here I was ready to cry with happiness again. Because it's black sand! You just don't understand! It's black and soft!
We spent two hours on the beach here. Evening was coming down from the mountain, and I was still driving home! We left in the blue twilight, with headlights and all.
It was not an easy journey! A serpentine road, a narrow road, an oncoming caravan of cars with blinding headlights on the hills (and the whole road is in these hills). Wow, how cool it was!
As usual, I was very worried whether I would find a place to park. We arrived and stood almost next to the reception!
They brought the keys to the manager on duty. And there is such a friendly and cheerful guy there. During dinner, he once brought me tea from the bar (they don’t serve tea in the restaurant at dinner), smiled a lot and explained that this is a special form, but for all people.
I wasn’t the only big-bellied one there, but I still felt the staff treated me more kindly and caringly.
And at the reception this manager, we give him the key, he says: Its for mi? ;) and chuckled. We laughed and said yes, of course, sorry, this is for the guy who owns it. And so it was all kind and easy.
------
Bob was always trying to find company among other children. And there were crowds of children! And here he is to everyone, this way and that. But the majority of children huddled close to their parents and did not make contact.
And suddenly - lo and behold! - Bob met a boy who was a copy of himself! The same height and build, temperament and level of physical activity.
They stuck to each other incredibly! Since then, a completely different life began for us in the evenings))) That family turned out to be from Iceland (at first we thought they were from Greenland). Dad is tall too. And this is the picture every evening: two long dads are sitting, two identical boys are running around in front of them, and mothers are sitting on either side of the dads, their heads buried in their phones.
First, they run around the area near the pool, then the children move to.. the assembly hall?))) in general, to some kind of event room, where there is a small stage, then many rows of chairs, and at the end - a bar.
And you can just sit on the chairs, drink whatever you want and relax. And the children are on their own.
Each time we carried away Boba in soap and delight from these games.
Here's another story from life.
We went to dinner, didn’t touch anyone, they offered to take a photo of us, and tomorrow at breakfast, they say, you’ll take the photo. For free? -For free!
In the morning the price jumps from zero to 20 euros, but Bob has already fallen in love with the magazine and two photographs of him, mom and dad!!! In the magazine about Tenerife there is information, about nature and features. And another photo of us on the spread.
In the end, we took it, and now we have a wonderful memory, because we don’t print photographs ourselves..
Another memory: a large laundry in the hotel basement.
Our dinner the night before our flight.
The flight back again took 9 hours, 6 of which were actually in the sky.
The flight was greatly delayed because there was again a headwind for those flying from Vilnius, and we were also late. Again Bob played and slept.
And at home there was frost and snow waiting for us. I won’t show my face to you about this)))
