How to determine when lava has solidified. Lava metamorphoses
On the shores of Marina Bay in central region Singapore is home to an amazing tropical park called Gardens by the Bay. It represents a huge park area, covering 101 hectares of reclaimed land. The park consists of three gardens: East, South and Central, which are dedicated to the flora of Africa, South America and Asia.
Gardens by the Bay is an integral part of the Singapore government's strategy to transform Singapore from a "Garden City" to a "City in a Garden" to improve quality of life through greening. The idea of creating such a large-scale project was publicly announced back in 2005, and the official opening of the unique futuristic gardens took place in June 2012.
The concept and design of the tropical park was developed by a team of British designers from various companies: Land Design Studio, Atelier Ten, Thomas Matthews, Atelier One, Grant Associates, Wilkinson Eyre.
The Gardens by the Bay complex boasts 225 thousand plants from different continents, water gardens, greenhouses, swimming pools, waterfalls, as well as an unusual alley consisting of 18 gigantic Supertrees Grove trees.
Unusual buildings in dark time days turn into a forest glowing with multi-colored lights. The height of the huge tree-like structures ranges from 25 to 50 meters. They provide shelter for unique tropical plants, including exotic ferns, orchids and rare species vine In addition, structures made of concrete and iron rods imitate the life processes of trees - they use solar energy for some important functions. What allows these fantastic plants to shine at night are energy-storing photovoltaic panels, which are installed on some of them. Other trees are used to air condition greenhouses and collect rainwater for fountains and irrigation. entwined tropical plants the metal giants are connected by overhead passages, from which it is very convenient to enjoy the surrounding landscapes. You can climb to the observation deck, located under the crowns of two large super-trees, along the OCBC Skyway walking trail, which is at an altitude of 22 meters, and visitors can relax and refresh themselves in the Supertree-top cafe, which lies at a 50-meter height. At night, the unusual Supertrees Grove alley comes to life, delighting guests with light and music show OCBC Garden Rapsody.
The Gardens by the Bay park complex consists of two greenhouses - the Flower Dome and the Cloud Forest, which are located on the edge of the Marina Bay coastline.
The first of them, the Flower Dome, is larger than its neighbor and has an area of 1.2 hectares; it has the status of the largest frameless greenhouse in the world. It is home to flora from the Mediterranean and other semi-arid tropical regions with a mild, dry climate. The greenhouse includes 7 thematic gardens ( South America, South Africa, Australia, California, Mediterranean, Baobabs, Succulents), olive grove, cafe and multimedia screens. The height of the Flower Dome is 38 meters, and the average temperature maintained in the room is 23-25°C.
The greenhouse, called "Cloud Forest" with an area of 0.8 hectares, creates humid conditions equatorial climate, characteristic of tropical mountainous areas at an altitude of 1000-3000 meters. It features a 35-metre waterfall, a 42-metre mountain covered in lush exotic vegetation, and a spiraling aerial trail.
Gardens by the Bay Tropical Park also features Gardens cultural heritage", which are dedicated to the history of the Singaporean people, "The World of Plants", which displays numerous species of flora, as well as Kingfisher and Dragonfly Lakes, along which you can stroll along hiking trails.
In 2014, the complex was replenished with a “Children's Garden” with water activities and a playground, an obstacle course, tree houses and an amphitheater hidden from the sun and rain.
Garden visiting hours open air– from 5 am to 2 am. Entrance to the greenhouses is available every day from 9 to 21. Ticket prices are $28 for adults and $15 for young visitors from 3 to 12 years old. A walk along the OCBC Skyway trail suspended between gigantic trees will cost $5 for adults and $3 for children. You can purchase tickets online on the official website of the park.
The best time to visit Gardens by the Bay is in the late evening, when you have the opportunity to enjoy the richness of the greenhouses and at the same time admire the night light show.

At the end of June 2012 in Singapore near Marina Bay opened unique complex with futuristic coastal gardens - Gardens by the Bay. On 101 hectares there are two greenhouses with 220 thousand plants from all continents, as well as giant steel super-trees from 25 to 50 meters high. Coastal Gardens Gardens by the Bay is part of the government's strategy to transform Singapore into a garden city. The Singapore authorities announced the coastal gardens Gardens by the Bay back in 2005. The gardens needed to be improved environmental situation cities. In 2006 it was announced international competition for the development of an architectural plan. 170 companies from 24 countries took part in it.
The park consists of 3 parts, called Bay South, Bay East and Bay Central.
Bay South opened on June 29, 2012. This is the largest part of the coastal gardens of Gardens by the Bay (54 hectares), being, in fact, main part the entire park complex.
The main attractions and business card The coastal gardens of Gardens by the Bay include the Cloud Forest, Flower Dome and a grove of 18 giant Supertrees, each of which is a vertical park. Greenhouses Cloud Forest (left) and Flower Dome (right):
The Flower Dome is protected from Singapore's equatorial sun by 3,300 glass panels and covers an area of 1.2 hectares.
The greenhouse with plants maintains the climate of the subtropical regions of the Mediterranean. The second greenhouse is a tropical Cloud Forest with an area of 0.8 hectares, located under a glass dome:
Here we simulate the conditions of a humid equatorial mountain climate at altitudes from 1000 and 3500 meters above sea level.
In the center of the greenhouse there is a beautiful 35-meter waterfall, which allows you to maintain the humidity necessary for tropical plants and create different temperature zones. So, at an altitude of 60 meters the temperature difference with lower tier is 5 degrees:
Super trees
The main attraction of the coastal gardens in Signapur are the 18 futuristic giant trees Supertree with a height of 25 to 50 meters.Super trees are made from a concrete base and steel trunk and crowns, which are special panels for planting. The steel panels are filled with 163 thousand plants of more than 200 species from around the world.
Thus, giant super-trees are vertical gardens in which you can see tropical creepers, orchids, rare ferns and much more. And incredibly beautifully illuminated:
Two of the super trees are connected by 128 meter long bridges located at a height of 22 meters. From here it opens amazing view to "grove":
At the top of the tallest super tree is a fast food restaurant.
Eleven of the 18 super trees have special solar panels that store energy throughout the day. In the evening it is used to create beautiful lighting and illumination. On the right are super trees from the coastal gardens of Gardens by the Bay, on the left is the Marina Bay Sands hotel with a rooftop pool:
The cost of creating the first phase of futuristic coastal gardens Gardens by the Bay was about $800 million.
The garden is adjacent to another landmark of Singapore - the Marina Bay Sands hotel with a swimming pool on the edge of the abyss (pictured on the right). Read more about it in the article.

You can enter the park from 5 am, and you will need to leave at 2 am. However, the domed greenhouses are open from 9 am to 9 pm. They work every day. They have one cash register and close at 8 pm. A general admission ticket to both greenhouses costs $28 for adults and $15 for children. If you use additional audio guide services, you will need to pay an additional $4.
Domes of the gardens at nightSupertrees
Supertrees (that’s what the project developers called them) are huge structures made of concrete and iron that imitate huge futuristic trees. The tree trunk actually looks like a real tree in the rainforest thanks to a large number plants planted directly on it. About 200 species of plants such as ferns, orchids and others are planted on supertrees tropical flowers. Moreover, each supertree contains about 163 thousand different plants.
There are 18 supertrees in the park. They have different heights, the highest 50 meters, the smallest 25 meters. At the same time, the largest supertrees are connected by a bridge, which was created for walks by park visitors. From its height you can view the entire Gardens by the Bay park and admire not only its lush vegetation, but also its amazing structures. The bridge is 128 meters long and raised to a height of 22 meters.
Those who say that supertrees are useless and are just a huge waste of money will be wrong. Supertrees have their own important functions, 11 of them are equipped with photovoltaic systems and are capable of converting during daylight hours sun rays into the energy that will be spent on lighting in the evening. It should be noted that the supertrees are illuminated very beautifully. Every day at 20.45 a light show begins, during which the supertrees are illuminated so favorably to the music that it seems that they are dancing.
In addition, supertrees can collect rainwater, which is then used to water the plants. Also on their tops there are various establishments, from shops to cafes. You can climb to the top of the supertree using an elevator built into the frame. However, you have to pay extra for the elevator ride. But from this height there are truly stunning views.
Supertrees deserve to be on travelers' list of must-see attractions in Singapore. Moreover, it is advisable to look at these futuristic objects twice, in the afternoon and in the evening during light show. If it is not possible to come to the park several times, then it is better to come in the evening and enjoy the evening views. They say they are the most impressive. But in general, not only the supertrees, but the entire park is amazing. However, it will take a lot of time to explore all corners of Gardens by the Bay. Their total area 54 hectares. But if you have time, it’s worth doing, because it’s not in vain that more than a billion dollars were spent on the development of this park; you will definitely see something that will impress you.

Uhhhh... It's like some kind of Avatar. Like on another planet, seriously. What kind of imagination does it take to come up with such beauty! But I especially liked the fish in the picture. I'll probably steal this idea. I'll do the same.

The gardens occupy an impressive territory, it’s hard to believe that it’s all real. The bridge between the trees is something, it’s now my dream to walk there! You can live in such a park without leaving it. Judging by the video, there are cafes and shops there. I wonder if there is a hotel?

This is fantastic beauty! I really wanted to go there. straight from the heart! And not even once does it smell of something artificial, like, for example, from the gardens in Dubai. If our family has the opportunity, we will definitely eat!

I look and there are simply not enough words to describe this magnificence. Singapore generally amazes with its buildings, but these gardens are beyond competition. I hope that I will definitely visit there. I would like to know what the height of such grandiose structures is... It’s a pity that we don’t have this kind of engineering marvel in our country. If I were a Singaporean, I would walk in the gardens every week.
