publishing house "Pedagogika") "Prosveshchenie" published not only educational, educational and methodological literature, but also books of a scientific research nature on problems of pedagogy, psychology, and educational methods. The publishing house and its predecessors played a huge role in eliminating illiteracy and in implementing universal primary and then eight-year education. The publishing house's activities became especially widespread after the introduction (in 1977) of universal compulsory education.
If in the first year of operation of the Prosveshchenie publishing house (1931), the total circulation of its products barely reached 29 million copies, then in 1990 it grew to 300 million copies per year. It publishes textbooks and teaching aids in Russian for all types of secondary schools, lyceums, gymnasiums and pedagogical educational institutions, methodological literature for teachers, books on extracurricular reading for students, various kinds of software and methodological publications, printed visual aids.
The activities of the publishing house "Prosveshchenie" are very diverse. Firstly, this is the publication of stable, trial and experimental textbooks on all traditional and new subjects. Some of them have computer support and audio support. For a number of humanities and natural sciences, parallel sets have been created for primary and secondary schools, including a textbook, reference and didactic materials, books for teachers and students. Secondly, the publishing house produces textbooks and teaching aids for basic training courses for students of pedagogical universities and students of pedagogical schools, as well as original manuals for lyceums and gymnasiums, schools and classes with in-depth study of subjects, combining materials from several disciplines, as well as manuals for differentiated teaching taking into account the individual abilities of students.
Publishing house "Prosveshchenie" is a state publishing house. And it was less affected by the economic difficulties of publishing and printing organizations that arose in the early 90s. The lack of printing capacity, the high price of paper and printing services sharply reduce both the circulation of published publications and the sheer number of books produced, to the point that there were not enough of them in educational institutions. But now the situation is improving and stabilizing. The publishing house "Prosveshcheniye" annually plans to release about 250 book titles with a circulation of 500 thousand to 2 million copies.
The authors of “Enlightenment” are scientists and innovative teachers, writers and artists, teachers and psychologists. The publishing house's books are distinguished by their highly scientific content and accessible presentation. Almost all textbooks published by the publishing house are created on the basis of new educational programs and are officially recommended for teaching by the Ministry of General and Professional Education of the Russian Federation.
Having refused to publish many serial and ongoing publications during difficult years for the publishing house, the Prosveshcheniye publishing house, retaining some of them, created new ones: “The World of Knowledge”, “Schoolchildren about Aesthetics”. “Reading in English, French, German...”, inter-publishing series “School Library”.
Publishing house "Drofa" in terms of the volume of educational literature produced, it ranks next after “Enlightenment”. Educational literature in the house itself currently accounts for more than 60% of the total volume of books published by the publishing house. It started its work in 1991. Being a private publishing house, he made money by publishing film novels, fiction, children's and educational literature. Now he invests money in the publication of textbooks and books that complement textbooks, developing literature and literature intended for independent reading.
In a relatively short period of operation, the Drofa publishing house became popular and turned into one of the largest publishing houses in Russia producing educational and pedagogical literature. Now it produces about 30% of all textbooks published in the country. Famous authors - scientists, methodologists, teachers - collaborate with him.
When preparing an educational publication for release, the Drofa publishing house invites a team of authors who know their subject and school curriculum (specialists in the theory of the subject, its history, methodologists, school teachers). Subsequently, the manuscript is reviewed, discussed in schools, a federal examination is carried out, and only after this the stamp of the Ministry of General and Professional Education of the Russian Federation is given. All this is done quickly, there are no multi-year publications, as before, moving from plan to plan, there are no lengthy approvals, everything is accurate and reasonable. The fundamental point for the publishing policy of "Drofa" is that all educational literature complies with current school curricula and modern general educational standards.
All textbooks and teaching aids are produced in accordance with GOSTs and OSTs and standard norms for the publication of educational literature, and have appropriate hygienic certificates. All publications are produced in hardcover or thick covers in a convenient “school” format.
The Drofa Publishing House offers textbooks, educational, methodological and didactic aids, a variety of reference materials on all subjects of the school cycle. Many of them make up educational and educational-methodological sets that fully meet the need for educational publications on the subject, and have no analogues in the plans of other publishing houses. Textbooks and teaching aids are produced for primary (three-year and four-year), primary (grades 5-9), and secondary (grades 10-11) schools. Bustard pays special attention to books for primary schools. First of all, large-format, color editions of improved design are produced for it. All educational literature corresponds to both traditional and new courses in primary, secondary and secondary schools. About 120 textbooks and teaching aids are included in the federal set.
In addition to the books included in the federal set, the Drofa publishing house produces a large amount of so-called accompanying educational literature, which complements the textbook, making it easier for both students and teachers to work with it. Among the serial publications on educational topics, we note the following: “To help applicants”, “Control and testing works”, “Cribs”, “I want to know everything”, “My very first book”.
The Drofa Publishing House annually publishes about 200 titles of educational and pedagogical literature, with a circulation of 200 thousand to 1.5 million copies.
Humanitarian Publishing Center "Vlados". Vlados, like many modern publishing houses, began its activities in 1991. The publishing center included the following principles of creative activity in its program of work.
To publish exclusively educational books for preschool institutions, schools, and universities. The literature is intended both for the students themselves and for those who teach.
Do not publish books included in the Federal Program for the Production of Educational Literature. All published books should be subordinated to one goal: to give the student the opportunity to obtain additional information on a topic of interest to him.
Practice releasing joint publications only with well-known, well-established publishing houses.
Publish textbooks and teaching aids on a fundamentally new basis only after they have been experimentally tested and tested in practice.
The subjects of publication of the publishing house "Vlados" include: educational, educational and methodological, reference and popular science literature, intended for teachers and students of schools, lyceums, gymnasiums, colleges, and for a wide range of readers.
In the publications of the Vlados Humanitarian Center you can find didactic materials, problem books, reference books, collections of exercises, test tasks, workbooks, textbooks and teaching aids on the Russian language, literature, history, culture, physics, mathematics, psychology, chemistry, biology, geography , pedagogy and a number of other subjects that make up the educational cycle of disciplines studied in various educational institutions.
"Vlados" is a specialized publishing house. His field of activity includes only educational books for kindergartens, schools, lyceums, and higher educational institutions. These are mainly books on the humanities. Publishing house employees believe that it is, of course, an honor and privilege to publish publications included in the federal set, but it is even more important to publish manuals for organizing an interesting and fruitful educational process. “Vlados”, for example, after long and hard work of specialist authors, published several textbooks on logic for all levels of school education. Perhaps it was thanks to this textbook that many schools began to study logic, although this subject is not compulsory.
During the period of its activity, from 1991 to 1997, the Humanitarian Publishing Center “Vlados” published about 850 titles of books, textbooks, teaching aids and methodological literature (about 110 titles on average per year with an average circulation of 3.5 million copies of all publications , published during the year). Moreover, among the published publications, a significant percentage (30%) were reissues. Thus, one of the most popular textbooks of the publishing house - “Textbook on the Fundamentals of Economic Theory” - went through nine reprints during the period 1996-1997, and its total circulation amounted to 225 thousand copies. On average, circulations range from 20 to 50 thousand copies.
Publishing house ROSMEN was created relatively recently - in April 1992, but thanks to its high-quality publications it is already recognized by many readers and is an active leader in the book market.
ROSMEN specializes in publishing books for children. This is one of the few private publishing houses that produces truly worthwhile educational, scientific, educational, reference, and business literature for children. By the nature of its activities, the publishing house gravitates towards enlightenment, which was so highly valued in Russian book publishing a hundred years ago. The publisher's books differ from others like them in their high-quality printing design, good illustrations, clear printing and child-friendly format and fonts. This is explained by the fact that specialists who previously worked at the Children's Literature publishing house work here.
The share of educational publications in the ROSMEN publishing house is approximately 40%. The remaining 60% are publications of fiction and other publications. The topics of educational and pedagogical publications produced are very diverse. ROSMEN pays very close attention to the repertoire. The focus is mainly on our own developments, but books are also published under licenses purchased from other publishers, both domestic and foreign. These are publishing houses such as Children's Literature, British publishing houses The Watts publishing group, Usborne publishing Ltd, the French publishing house Larousse and a number of others.
The publishing house's repertoire includes many books on history, archaeology, geography, anatomy, biology, physics, chemistry, music, drawing and many other areas. These books are intended for children, their goal is to reveal a complex world to the child and to show in an informative way all areas of human activity. ROSMEN publishes publications designed to prepare children for school, to develop reading and counting skills, and to develop their creative abilities. Examples of such publications are “Bukvarenok” and “Zanimatika” by G. Yudin, “ABC” and “Bukvar” by G. Saptir, the series “Do and Play”, “Our Hands are Not for Boredom”.
ROSMEN's scientific and educational series are actively used in the educational processes of preschool institutions, schools, gymnasiums and lyceums. This is the encyclopedic series “Illustrated World History”, “Illustrated School Reference Books” and others. Books in these series are recommended by the Russian Ministry of Education as aids for additional education. By developing mental and creative abilities, books published by ROSMEN contribute to the formation of aesthetic taste and spiritually enrich the reader.
Publishing house MIROS was opened in 1992 at the Moscow Institute of Educational Systems (MIROS). This publishing house is a municipal body and a budgetary organization under the Education Committee of the Russian Federation.
MIROS is an informal leader among the creators and publishers of new generation textbooks. From the first moment of its opening, MIROS publishing house set as its goal the publication of:
textbooks;
teaching aids;
teaching materials;
programs for secondary schools, gymnasiums, lyceums, specialized schools.
MIROS publishes books on all subjects, except for textbooks and teaching aids in computer science and foreign languages, since the Moscow Institute of Educational Systems does not have these departments in its structure.
MIROS's goal is to create a set of alternative textbooks available in grades 1-4. The publishing house abandoned the normative education system (that is, the use of a federal set) and switched to the idea of variable educational book publishing.
Currently, MIROS works with audiences of grades 5-6 and older, focusing on in-depth study of the subject. MIROS consistently publishes 15 new educational publications a year that are completely non-standard, primarily in content and sometimes in design.
Among the textbooks published by MIROS, some publications that have been noted by the pedagogical community should be highlighted.
“History problem book” - for high school.
“Biology” is an experimental textbook for grade VI.
“History of the Ancient World” - for high school.
“History of Ancient Greece” - for high school.
The circulation of books published by the publishing house ranges from 10 to 50 thousand copies. Accordingly, the average circulation of MIROS is 30 thousand copies.
Publishing house "AST-Press" organized in 1992. AST-Press, like many other publishing houses created in the early 90s, accumulated its initial capital through the resale of book publications. And since 1993, he began independently publishing book products. Knowing from their own experience what sells best in modern conditions, they began to eagerly publish scarce literature in the genres of detective fiction, science fiction and adventure.
Until 1995, the publishing house published a wide variety of literature. And since 1995, AST-Press has been paying increasing attention to children's fiction, educational, educational and developmental books. Together with Pedagogy-Press, the Encyclopedic Dictionary of a Young Historian was published, interesting not only for children, but also for parents. “Encyclopedic Dictionary of a Young Mathematician”, “Informatics for Beginners”, “Encyclopedic Dictionary of a Young Physicist”, entertaining “Physics Around or Vovka’s Discoveries” - all these publications perfectly complement school textbooks.
In the section of educational publications, AST-Press specializes in the production of teaching aids and educational programs (on labor training, primary school, etc.). Books on preschool education, educational and methodological sets on labor training in grades 1-4, included in the federal set of educational publications, textbooks and teaching aids, and cartographic publications are published.
From the general repertoire of educational and pedagogical publications, the publishing house is dominated by popular and reference educational publications, published mainly in the series: “Discovery of the World”, “Entertaining Lessons”, “My First Dictionary”, “To the School Textbook”, “Pedagogy, Psychology, Medicine” " and others.
AST-Press is a medium-sized private publishing house that produces about 90 titles per year. During 1996-1997, 181 titles were published with a total circulation of about 15 million copies. A number of publishing projects are being prepared jointly with Pedagogy-Press, New School, and Cartography. At the same time, 90% of publications are prepared directly in the bowels of the publishing house itself.
Publishing House "Physical Culture and Sports" (FiS), founded in 1923, has two priority areas:
literature promoting a healthy lifestyle;
literature on physical culture and sports.
Today, the publishing house, which has gone through the difficult times of recent years, not without losses, is gaining its former strength and regaining the authority that has accompanied it since its formation.
If we talk about literature promoting a healthy lifestyle, then first of all it is necessary to name the main series of the publishing house “Life without drugs”, which will include more than two dozen books. This series is intended for everyone who wants to know more about their body and health, for those who want to strengthen their body and psyche, and for parents who care about the health of their children.
The second direction in the publishing house’s activities is represented by books about outstanding athletes, little-known facts from their sports careers, books about physical education intended for teachers of schools, secondary and higher educational institutions, and those who independently engage in professional and amateur sections. Fiction and documentary works about athletes and sports are published.
Compared to the recent past (about 150 titles per year), the publishing house “Physical Culture and Sport” today does not publish so many - about 20 titles with a circulation of 10 to 5 thousand copies each per year.
The fate of the educational and pedagogical publishing house “Pedagogy” is interesting, which largely characterizes the state of affairs in the publication of scientific and information literature not only in the field of pedagogy, but also in other areas of human activity.
Founded as a publishing house of the Academy of Pedagogical Sciences and Goskomizdat (in all statistical collections it is referred to as a publishing house of double subordination) in Moscow in 1945. In 1964-1969 it was part of the Prosveshchenie publishing house. And only in 1969 it became an independent publishing house.
In Soviet times, the publishing house specialized in publishing scientific publications on pedagogy, psychology, developmental physiology, and problems of teaching methods, intended primarily for researchers, teachers of pedagogical institutes and secondary educational institutions, graduate students and teachers. The publishing house also published popular science literature for teachers, parents, and students on the problems of ideological, political, labor, moral, aesthetic and physical education of the younger generation. Information publications, encyclopedias and reference books on issues of pedagogy and public education were published. The “Pedagogical Library” series (1964-1991) published works by classics of domestic and foreign pedagogical science.
Books on problems of improving the content, forms and methods of teaching were published for school teachers and public education workers. These, as a rule, were scientific and popular science publications. For specialists in the field of pedagogy and psychology, monographs were published in the series “Proceedings of full members and corresponding members of the Academy of Pedagogical Sciences of the USSR”; the series “Education and Training” was intended for a wide range of readers. Teacher's Library"; "Pedagogical experience: problems and findings." Books about advanced domestic and foreign pedagogical experience were published in the series “Foreign School and Pedagogy”.
A significant place in the publishing repertoire of those years was occupied by popular science books for parents on all issues of raising and educating children and, above all, in the “Library for Parents” series. On the pages of the books in the popular science series “Scientists for Schoolchildren,” famous figures of science and culture spoke in an entertaining way about the most pressing problems of science, technology, and culture. The publishing house also published collected works by K.D. Ushinsky, N.K. Krupskaya, A.S. Makarenko, selected works of prominent figures in pedagogy and public education.
The main buyers of the literature published by the Pedagogika publishing house were scientists in the field of pedagogy, psychology, defectology, teachers of educational institutions, students and pupils of pedagogical schools, as well as teachers and parents.
Until 1991, the publishing house published 16 pedagogical journals (“Soviet Pedagogy”, “Education of Schoolchildren”, “Family and School” and others), covering the most important issues of teaching and upbringing in our country and abroad.
Before the crisis in book printing in the early 90s, Pedagogika occupied a leading position among other publishing houses in the country (about 100 titles annually with millions of copies). At the end of 1991, the publishing house, which was then under the department of the Ministry of Press and Information and the Academy of Pedagogical Sciences, was liquidated and on its basis two publishing houses arose in 1992: Pedagogika-Press as the legal successor of the Pedagogika publishing house and
IN publishing house "Pedagogy-Press" There have been major changes in repertoire policy. The lack of government funding affected the number of titles and circulation of published books. Like all state publishing houses, Pedagogika-Press is having great difficulty getting back on its feet. If in 1990 (the highest figures) 97 titles were released with a circulation of 8,148 thousand copies, then in 1996 only 30 titles were released, the circulation of which was 630 thousand copies.
Market conditions dictate their requirements. Therefore, the publishing house had to greatly reduce the production of scientific publications. However, they were not completely abandoned, realizing that such publications are very necessary. The series “Psychology: Classic Works” is published, the works of L.S. are published. Vygodsky, A.R. Luria and other teachers and psychologists. In 1996, the Psychological Dictionary was published, edited by V.V. Davydov and V.P. Zinchenko.
Subject to the conditions of market relations, in order to successfully exist, the Pedagogika-Press publishing house publishes commercial literary and artistic publications, not forgetting about the publication of works by famous teachers and psychologists, publications devoted to the problems of education and upbringing. A large place in the publishing house's repertoire is occupied by publications for children of preschool and school age, educational publications that introduce young readers to the basics of science, culture and technology.
Publishing house "School-Press" opened in 1992 under the auspices of the Ministry of Education of the Russian Federation and the Press Committee. The main activity is the publication of 14 leading pedagogical magazines for teachers, students, students and parents, previously published by the Pedagogika publishing house. Realizing that it was impossible to leave the readership without periodicals, “School-Press” began publishing magazines: “Biology at School”, “Open School” (self-education, how to teach difficult teenagers), “Education of Schoolchildren”, “Questions of Psychology”, “Geography at school”, “Mathematics at school”, “Teaching history at school”, “Russian literature” (works of Russian writers, fragments of memoirs of Russian cultural figures), “Physical education at school”, “Chemistry at school”, “School” and production", "Social studies at school". Textbooks and teaching aids in biology and chemistry are also published, included in the federal set for secondary schools, recommended by the Ministry of Education of the Russian Federation.
The publishing house produces two series: “Reading Circle: School Curriculum” and CHANCE. The books in the first series include texts from works of fiction included in the new literature curriculum for secondary schools. Each volume of the series is accompanied by a conceptual dictionary, topics for oral and written assignments, and additional materials for independent study. The “Applicant School: Learn Yourself” (CHANCE) series is intended, first of all, for graduating students for in-depth preparation in subjects for school exams, as well as for entrance exams to various educational institutions. The main task of the books in this series is to systematize the knowledge acquired in class, to help in self-education, in working on school subjects of interest: mathematics, Russian language and literature, chemistry, biology, geography.
At this stage of development of society, when there is an active search for new textbooks on subjects, schools are equipped with appropriate educational materials, but the development of fundamental teaching aids in pedagogy lags behind. For the purpose of long-term development of pedagogical thought, the publishing house republished the book of the scientist-teacher, philosopher S.I. Gessen “Fundamentals of Pedagogy. Introduction to Applied Philosophy".
The publishing house publishes about 20 book titles per year, each with a circulation of 15-20 thousand copies.
Publishing house "Aspect-Press" arose in 1989, and began publishing literature in 1990. Initially, the publishing house specialized in publishing translated literature. Later it began to publish translated scientific and technical journals. In 1991, it finally reoriented itself, taking its rightful place in the market of educational literature publishers.
The main thing when choosing a direction of activity was and remains the creation of textbooks and teaching aids of a new generation for schools, colleges, lyceums and universities, on which the publishing house places its main emphasis.
In its work, the Aspect-Press publishing house is committed to interaction and fruitful cooperation with new interesting partners, which brings good results. In particular, it prepared a number of textbooks and teaching aids for students and schoolchildren, recommended by the Ministry of Education as an alternative to the federal program. These are “Anthology on the History of Russia”, “Economics Lessons at School” and a number of others.
The publishing house receives orders from the international foundation “Cultural Initiative”, whose sponsor is D. Soros, who has set himself the goal of promoting the publication of new educational literature. The foundation’s program includes publishing several hundred books, and about sixty of them are published by Aspect Press: “Political History of Russia,” “Social Cultural Studies,” “Philosophy of Culture,” etc.
In 1993, only 10 book titles were published, but a year later - 40, things went uphill. All Aspect-Press publications can be divided into two large groups: publications for secondary and higher schools, within which textbooks and teaching aids of both a socio-political nature and general education in other disciplines are published. These are publications on history, political science, philosophy, economics, law, and ecology. A number of textbooks from the publishing house have been given the status of “stable” and they are officially included in the federal program, bearing a stamp with appropriate recommendations. For example:
Andreeva G.M.
This is the first domestic university textbook, which is a systematic and complete presentation of the subject of social psychology, including the main directions of fundamental and applied research.
The Aspect-Press publishing house, like many other publishing houses, publishes most of its publications in series, realizing that this way it will find its reader faster.
The university series “Classical Textbook” contains books on history, theory of Russian literature and linguistics. All new publications are certified by the Ministry of Education as “Textbook for students of philological faculties of universities.” (For example, Gukovsky G.A. Russian literature of the 18th century. M.: Aspect-Press, 1996. 448 p.
- classic textbook).
The publications for the “Federal Set for Secondary Schools” series are represented by three textbooks on foreign literature and contain the texts of works provided for in the literature program for grades 9-11 of high school, as well as biographical information about authors from Homer to E. Hemingway and A. Christie.
Among the books published by the Aspect-Press publishing house, the Russian Biographical Dictionary remains to this day the best reference book on Russian history from the Baptism of Rus' to the beginning of the century. The idea of creating a dictionary belongs to the first honorary chairman of the Russian Historical Society, Grand Duke Alexander Alexandrovich, the future Emperor Alexander III. Since 1867, the society has published collections of various historical documents. Then there was a desire to generalize information about historical figures. The publication of the Russian Biographical Dictionary began in 1896, and subsequently an average of one volume per year appeared. Among the editors and authors of the dictionary are K.N. Bestuzhev-Ryumin, S.S. Tatishchev, N.K. Schilder, S.F. Platonov and other literary critics, historians, archaeologists, and art critics. The dictionary is a collection of detailed biographies of sixty thousand people who left their mark on the history of Russia. The first three volumes were published in 1991. This was followed by a break due to economic instability. And subsequent volumes began to be published in 1995.
The Aspect-Press publishing house, publishing educational literature for secondary and higher schools, has in its repertoire reference publications on classical scientific disciplines and topics the teaching of which began not so long ago. Publications on political science and sociology are especially widely represented. A significant part of the repertoire consists of translated publications.
If in educational book publishing for secondary schools things are relatively normal: schools (especially Moscow and St. Petersburg) are sufficiently supplied with textbooks and teaching aids, then higher schools, technical schools and vocational schools are provided with educational publications (primarily for special disciplines) is extremely weak.
Providing the educational process with the necessary literature has become a pressing problem for higher education in Russia today. University libraries no longer have the previous opportunities to freely order new books and replenish their collections. In the capital's universities, the situation with educational literature is more or less favorable, but in the regions the necessary books are practically inaccessible to most specialists and students. The point is not so much that the circulation of specialized publications has dropped significantly and the list of literature planned for publication has been steadily shrinking, but that there is no longer a single state book distribution network.
Today it is especially important to create a reliable system for preparing the publication of educational literature and bringing it to every university, technical school, and vocational school. Basically, such a system has been created, but it needs to be strengthened and developed. This system involves the publication of basic university textbooks on the humanities, socio-economics, mathematics and some other special disciplines of federal sets of state educational standards by the largest central state, university and non-state publishing houses. Such textbooks and teaching aids are issued with the stamp of the Russian Ministry of Education.
The publication of textbooks and teaching aids in special disciplines and special courses is aimed at university publishing houses. And the organization of publication of literature is entrusted to educational and methodological associations created by the Ministry of Education in various areas and profiles of specialist training. Having received the rights to their own educational book publishing, higher education institutions today are one of the largest publishers of educational and scientific literature. Every year, over 500 textbooks and teaching aids are published with a recommendation stamp from the Russian Ministry of Education. And more than 20 thousand titles of educational, methodological, scientific and other types of literature are published by publishing houses, publishing centers and editorial and publishing departments of universities.
Moscow State University Publishing House (MSU)- one of the oldest, and maybe the oldest, or rather the very first in Russia. It is 240 years old: April 25, 1756 (May 8, new style) occupies a special place in the history of Russian culture - this is the starting date for the history of Russian university book publishing. Since its inception, the publishing activity of the publishing house has been based on a constant triad: priority has always been given to scientific books, textbooks and educational literature. Serving the trinity of tasks of science, education and culture can be traced in all publishing activities of Moscow University right up to the present day. The thematic range of published books covers almost all areas of modern scientific knowledge - philosophy and psychology, history and economics, state and law, journalism, mathematics, physics, astronomy, biology and chemistry, geology and geography.
Today, the Moscow University Publishing House, like many institutions that exist on state subsidies, is forced to work in an extremely strict regime. Over the past 10 years, the output of scientific publications has decreased by 70%, but the output of educational publications has increased by 60%. The Moscow State University Publishing House does not pursue commercial gain, publishing detective stories, romance novels and film scripts; the focus in publishing literature has remained the same: publishing scientific and educational literature. In the difficult conditions of today, it remains one of the largest publishing houses in the country. Traditionally, textbooks and teaching aids prepared by leading scientists of Moscow State University and corresponding to university courses take pride of place in university book publishing. Every year, the publishing house's textbooks and teaching aids are included in the Federal Target Program for Educational Book Publishing. The publishing house pays a lot of attention to publishing literature for high school students and those entering universities. The latest scientific achievements of Moscow University scientists are reflected in monographs and collections of scientific papers. They are very popular and widely used in the educational process.
The publication of literature aimed at a wide range of readers also continues. The texts selected for such publications have scientific and artistic value, since these are often the first publications in our country or new translations specially made for the publishing house.
Many serial publications published by the Moscow State University publishing house enjoy well-deserved recognition among readers of various groups:
“University Library”, which publishes monuments of philosophical, everyday and historical thought, memoirs, as well as works of domestic and foreign literature;
“Physics: ideas, achievements, prospects” - for scientists, students and everyone interested in the latest achievements and developments in the field of physical and mathematical sciences;
"The Great French Revolution: Documents and Research", which collects the most important developments of university historians;
“From the spiritual past of the Fatherland”;
“Philosophical Readings” is a series that brings together the works of outstanding philosophers, historians, figures of domestic and foreign culture;
“Classical lecture courses”;
“The creative heritage of outstanding university scientists.”
In the future, there is the organization of work (together with all faculties of the university) to prepare the “Encyclopedia of Moscow University,” which is expected to be released for the 250th anniversary of Moscow University. The scientific journals also published by the publishing house are quite well known: “Bulletin of Moscow University” (18 series on individual branches of knowledge) and “Bulletin of the Moscow Society of Natural Scientists”.
The Moscow State University Publishing House publishes about 170 titles annually, the circulation of which ranges from 5 to 50 thousand copies. This is mainly educational, scientific, popular science, and reference literature.
Publishing house "Higher School" Founded in 1939 as the publishing house "Soviet Science". It was created in connection with the need to streamline the production of educational literature, the shortage of which became acute in 1936-1938. His responsibility was to publish literature on science and technology to help higher education, scientists, and specialists in various fields of knowledge.
In October 1959, by government decree, the publishing house "Soviet Science" was transformed into a multidisciplinary educational and pedagogical publishing house "Higher School" with its subordination to the Ministry of Higher Education of the USSR. The “Higher School” was tasked with providing the country’s system of higher and secondary specialized education with educational literature, teaching aids, reference books, as well as publishing textbooks, teaching aids, courses of lectures on general scientific, general education and general technical disciplines for universities and technical schools, and scientific works of university departments. In 1963, the publishing house "Higher School" was transferred to the subordination of the State Committee for Publishing of the USSR and merged with two other educational and pedagogical publishing houses (Proftekhizdat), retaining its former name.
"Higher School" is a publishing house specializing in the production of educational literature for universities, technical schools and vocational schools. It publishes textbooks in almost all disciplines: philosophy, history, economics, law, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology, textbooks on Russian and foreign languages, literature, and other natural sciences, general technical and general engineering disciplines.
At the present time, the publishing house "Higher School" is experiencing a certain crisis. This is due to the fact that until recently the publishing house was fully supported by the state and, like other publishing houses that published educational literature, to one degree or another enjoyed its support. Since 1996, state support for educational book publishing has practically ceased. Thus, out of 40 textbooks included in the Federal Book Publishing Program of Russia, only four were funded. If we also take into account that the book distribution system is now practically destroyed, and the publishing house “Higher School” has no connection with universities, technical schools, and vocational schools, then the difficulties in distributing educational literature and in determining the optimal circulation of books will become understandable. In addition, many higher educational institutions now publish textbooks and teaching aids for themselves, ensuring the normal course of the educational process, since there is a catastrophic shortage of educational publications specifically in the special disciplines taught in a particular educational institution.
Today, “Higher School” annually offers on the book market over 100 titles of textbooks and teaching aids, reference books for university students, students of technical schools, vocational schools, colleges, lyceums and schools, as well as literature for a wide range of readers, the publishing house publishes several series:
“From the history of domestic spirituality” - for students and university teachers;
"Philosophical Portraits";
"Philosopher's Library";
“History in Persons” (for a wide range of readers).
The circulation of educational publications by the publishing house "Higher School" is 15-30 thousand copies.
Publishing house "Logos" founded in 1990 as a publishing house engaged in the production of educational, pedagogical and reference literature. In the first years of its activity (1990-1993), Logos published mainly custom publications upon request and on the customer’s terms.
Currently, the publishing corporation "Logos" specializes in the production of educational, scientific, reference literature on socio-political topics for various types of higher educational institutions and scientific organizations; reference books and periodicals for management staff and other interested employees of higher education. The publishing house strives to publish high-quality textbooks on a modern scientific basis. The books fully comply with the educational standard and contain the necessary educational, methodological and reference apparatus, including self-test questions, terminological dictionaries, name and subject indexes. Logos Publishing House publishes its books on good paper and in hardcovers. Books are published on problems of philosophy, political science, sociology, logic, and economics.
An interesting initiative in the activities of the Logos publishing house was the release of two periodicals: “Higher Education in Europe” (Russian version) and “University Book”, which help both publishers and educators navigate the problems of higher education and the problems of higher educational book publishing .
The Logos Publishing Corporation annually publishes about 40 titles of educational, scientific and reference literature for higher educational institutions with a circulation of up to 20 thousand copies.
