Tanks became the third weight category of the Entwicklung program E-25- that is, weighing about 25 tons. These unified combat vehicles were planned to replace a whole galaxy of quite successful, but already outdated anti-tank self-propelled tanks created on the basis of the chassis of the Pz.Kpfw.III and Pz.Kpfw.IV medium tanks, as well as the famous “Hetzer”.
Work on the E-25 program began somewhat earlier than the others - at the end of 1943. They were led by the 6th Department of the Weapons Testing Directorate (Waffenprufamt 6 or WaPruAmt 6), the head of which was General H.E. Kniepkamp. The Adler company from Frankfurt was involved in the development of a new type of self-propelled guns, which was to design a highly mobile tank destroyer with a low silhouette, weighing about 25-30 tons. In addition, Porsche and Argus participated in the E-25 program. In addition to the above characteristics, the main “highlight” of the self-propelled guns was supposed to be the weapons.
According to a number of modern sources, at the stage of forming the specification, it was planned to install a gun of the 7.5cm PaK 42 L/70 type (that is, with a barrel length of 70 calibers). At the same time, there is information that it was proposed to use the well-proven 75-mm 7.5cm KwK 43 L/70 cannon as the main weapon system, but the possibility of replacing it with a more powerful 7.5cm KwK 44 with the same barrel length was envisaged . This gun was originally developed by Krupp and Skoda for installation in Schmalturm-type turrets, which were intended for the Panther II tank, but it was also suitable for a self-propelled gun. Distinctive features of the KwK 44 were the presence of a concentric recoil mechanism, to which they subsequently planned to add a Skoda autocharger. This would allow the rate of fire to be maintained at 40 rounds per minute(!). Unfortunately for the Germans (and fortunately for the Allies), by the end of the war only a few prototypes were assembled and tested. However, such a high rate of fire had one big drawback - the gunner simply would not have time to aim the gun at the target.
There were also alternative options, but since there is no precise information about their features, the overwhelming “alternative E-25 projects” that appear so often on the Internet must be treated with great caution. For example, you can often find a “sketch” with the installation of an 88-mm 8.8cm KwK 43 gun, which is designated as Panzerjagerwagen E-25 “Jaguar”, which already raises a certain kind of doubt. Another project seemed to include a 105-mm howitzer 10.5cm StuH 42, but how such a large weapon was going to be installed in the very cramped fighting compartment of the E-25 is not reported. The option with the 10cm PAW 1000 (10H64) smoothbore anti-tank gun, the development of which was entrusted to the Krupp company, seems more realistic. In terms of its dimensions, it could easily fit into the body of the E-25, and according to the developers, its armor-piercing projectile could penetrate a 200-mm armor plate installed at an angle of 60° at a distance of up to 1000 meters.
No exact data has been preserved regarding additional weapons. It is now assumed that an automatic cannon of 20-30 mm caliber was intended to combat enemy infantry and light armored vehicles, which was planned to be installed in a separate turret on the roof of the fighting compartment. In fact, this design element is missing from Adler’s E-25 sketches.
The shape of the E-25's hull strongly resembled the Hetzer, which was not surprising given the height requirements of the self-propelled gun. An interesting feature was the installation of all vertical armor plates (with the exception of the lower side ones) at very high angles of inclination. For example, the upper frontal and rear armor sheets were installed at an angle of 45°; In terms of its dimensions, the E-25 was close to the Jagdpanzer IV, but its hull was 20 cm shorter, while the width and overall height were increased by the same 20 cm.
The layout of the E-25 was somewhat different from that of serial self-propelled guns on tank chassis. In the front part of the hull, almost exactly along the central axis, a cannon protected by a “boar’s head” type mask was installed. To the left of it was the driver’s seat and the vehicle controls. The fighting compartment was combined with the control compartment: there were places for the commander, gunner and loader. The turret with an automatic cannon, located on the roof, was moved to the left. The engine-transmission compartment occupied the rear part of the hull.
There is also no consensus regarding the engine for the E-25. According to some data, it was originally planned to install a transversely mounted Argus air-cooled gasoline engine with a power of 350 hp. (according to other sources - 400 or 600 hp), as well as an 8-speed gearbox and a hydroelectric steering unit. The transmission was developed by ZF. According to other sources, plans included options with Maybach HL100 and Maybach HL101 engines, producing 400 and 550 hp. respectively. There is also mention of a 12-cylinder Maybach HL 230 P30 engine with 700 hp. at 3000 rpm, which was installed on “Panther” and “Tiger” Ausf.B. In the latter version, a maximum speed of up to 65 km/h was expected.
When designing the chassis, the factors of manufacturability and the speed of its production were taken into account. The torsion bar suspension, for all its advantages, was too labor-intensive and heavy. Instead of torsion bars, another external type suspension system was proposed. It consisted of a lever that included a spring and a shock absorber and had movement on a shaft mounted on the outside of the housing. The springs had to be located inside the suspension block housing and have a central hydraulic shock absorber. Each suspension block was bolted to the side and bottom of the hull, so that if the block were damaged, its removal and installation would not pose much of a problem and would not require special equipment. There were 5 blocks per side, each of which was equipped with one dual support roller with a diameter of 1000 mm, which were borrowed from the E-10 project. The wheels were installed in a checkerboard pattern, to the left and right of the single-row teeth of the track chain and track and were equipped with rubber tires. Each caterpillar chain consisted of small-link steel tracks with a width of 660 mm (according to other sources - 700 mm). Structurally, it was similar to the chain for the Panther II tank, but in this case there was only one row of teeth passing between the overlapping wheels. The length of the supporting surface was 2.96 meters with a track width of 2.74 meters. The minimum turning radius of the E-25 was estimated at 1.08 meters.
The Adler E-25 self-propelled gun project was the only one that was able to be brought to the “iron” stage of development. It is alleged that as of January 23, 1945, several hulls were manufactured, which were apparently located in Kattowitz and were ready to be sent to the test site. However, not a single prototype of the E-25 tank destroyer was ever built. As for the remaining projects, the following information is available regarding them. Development of Porsche, which bore alternative names Sturmgeschutz 27t And Porsche E-25 Jagdpanzer, was based on the Typ 245 light tank project and remained only in the form of sketches and mock-ups. Game tactics.
The classic tactics of tank destroyers, when you stand in one position for most of the battle and hit enemies head-on, rarely work well on the E 25. It is only effective against lower level tanks. Most same-level opponents need to be shot at the side.For this you need good dynamics, but with it the E 25 is doing just fine: the maximum speed is 65 km/h, the specific engine power is more than 26 hp. per ton. Such outstanding dynamics should be used to the maximum: you should stop only to shoot, if the enemy has hidden behind a house or other obstacle, move, change position, you can even go to the other flank and return back a minute later.
Camouflage and light.
The E 25 is similar to a light tank not only in dynamics, but also in size: it is one of the smallest vehicles in the game. It’s amazing how four tankers fit there. At an average distance, it is very difficult to hit an E 25 rushing at full speed. There is another big plus: a high stealth factor. If you stand behind the bushes and don’t shoot, then the enemy will only be able to detect you with an “X-ray” from 50 meters.So E 25 could be great. This role especially needs to be played in battles with eighth levels. The view is only 360 meters, so it definitely needs to be improved with a stereo pipe. High dynamics allows you to quickly take advantageous positions and, for example, shoot at the vulnerable sides of enemy heavy tanks traveling to positions. Still, even the eighth levels are hit quite easily, problems can only arise with individual well-armored tanks, for example, with the KV-4, but they do not occur very often.It must be said that high dynamics often lead to inexperienced newcomers being quickly sent to the hangar: they fly out at the enemy first, manage to fire five shots (at best) and die. If you have the same problem, then don’t rush, use good E 25 camouflage to the maximum.

If you started playing World of Tanks recently, then it is better to adhere to the classic tactics for tank destroyers at the beginning of the battle: stand at a distance, shoot at someone else’s light. And you can start acting more aggressively towards the end of the battle. This way you will deal less damage, gain less experience, but dying at the very beginning of the battle is even worse.
Crew.
As for the skills and abilities of the crew, everything here is standard for an ambush-type tank destroyer: camouflage and the sixth sense of the commander are extremely important, and combat brotherhood can be taken as a second skill. The crew consists of four tank crews (there is no radio operator, whose duties are performed by the commander), which is identical to the crew composition of, for example, the StuG III (although on it the duties of the radio operator are performed by the loader).On the E 25 it is better to transfer the crew from low-level German tank destroyers. On high-level vehicles, upgraded camouflage is of little use, and the crew there consists of five or six tankers (usually a radio operator and another loader are added).

Overall, the E 25 is one of the most fun premium vehicles, thanks to its speed, stealth, excellent accuracy and rate of fire. It's definitely worth the money (especially if you buy it at a discount). The price of this miracle is 6,700 gold. Yes, there is no other way to purchase this car, except by winning the promotion. However, we don’t need to level up all the way to level 7, accumulate experience and upgrade modules in order to bring the car to the top. This is the advantage of premium technology. - Just buy a new crew for gold. This method is quite simple and effective - we get 100% crew. It will cost 200 * 4 = 800 gold.
- Train your crew for silver. If you don’t have other German tank ships and you also feel sorry for the money for the crew, then perhaps this will be the only suitable option for you. It will cost 20,000 * 4 = 80,000 credits. However, we will get 75% crew, which is sad, but in principle not critical.
- Well, a method for those who have a fairly good crew trained on other German PTs. Here we can simply transfer this crew to this PT and ride with it; there is no penalty for the crew on premium vehicles. This is absolutely free and will give us the opportunity to seat 3 - 4 perk crews without any losses on the E-25 for those who have top-end tanks.
Well, one more equally important point is camouflage. Since we are a tank destroyer, a fairly small tank destroyer, our visibility is quite low, and camouflage will increase our stealth even more. Therefore, we apply camouflage to the car and don’t think twice about it. It will cost 3 * 70,000 = 210,000 credits.

Since premium equipment does not have upgradeable modules, there is no point in considering the research branch. Just be glad that you are already at the top. However, we will still consider each of the modules in more detail:
The gun of this AT is very accurate and has a very high rate of fire. However, for the latter we pay with one-time damage. On the one hand this is good, on the other hand it is bad. This weapon also has weak penetration rates with basic shells. This is partly compensated for by armor-piercing sub-caliber shells, which can be purchased at a higher price or for gold. I’ll also note that the gun’s aiming speed is also excellent.
The engine on this PT is also quite powerful, which allows us to reach high speeds. Eh, I remember how on test 0.8.6 I drove a T-50-2, which had already been removed, and the PT was cut a little... I’ll also note the standard chance of an engine fire - 20%, which means that it’s still better to carry a fire extinguisher with you, not gasoline. By the way, with such excellent dynamics we don’t need it.
The radio station is quite powerful, so we are unlikely to feel a lack of communication range. There is nothing more to say about her.
The chassis has good cross-country ability on various soils and turning speed. The carrying capacity is enough for the eyes, so there is no need to worry about this.

In any case, this is either a support tank from a long distance, or a tank that will circle, break through to the rear and even actively shine. This PT allows you to straighten your arms and not be hostage to low speed. We can do whatever we want, stand and shine in the bushes, neutralize fireflies, quickly occupy key positions on the map and hold them until the main forces arrive. However, one cannot be overconfident. Yes, we can do all this, but we need to do it after thinking 3 times, calculating all the options for the development of events and escape routes if something does not go as we planned. You can play it both as a PT and as a ST, the main thing is to think. This PT will never bring much experience and credits if you play it mediocrely. On the Su 122-44 it is possible to achieve damage simply because of a good gun, here we will have to try hard to shoot the same damage. The machine is complex, the machine is demanding on the hands and thoughtful actions, but it is better and can bend the same Su 122-44 if played correctly. You don’t know what kind of battles we fought with a platoon of 3 such tanks, how much fun, money and pleasure we got. Yes, the machine is not for everybody, so I recommend going to the test server and trying it out there before purchasing.

When creating the body shape of the E-25 self-propelled gun, all combat experience was taken into account, as a result of which all the armor plates were located at different angles of inclination (similar to the T-34), which were an excellent means of ricocheting off the armor when a projectile hit it. As planned by the designers, a 350 hp Argus gasoline engine was to be installed transversely in the rear of the self-propelled gun. with 8-speed transmission and hydroelectric steering. Later, the designers wanted to install a Maybach engine with a power of 400 hp. and other power plant options. According to calculated data, the E-25 self-propelled gun was supposed to reach speeds on the highway of up to 65 km/h.
The designers disagreed regarding the chassis. Some suggested installing a torsion bar suspension, others an external type system. After much discussion, the torsion bar was abandoned due to its excessive weight and labor-intensive production. The external type suspension was a lever, which consisted of a shock absorber and a spring, which had travel on a shaft that was installed on the outside of the body. The springs themselves were planned to be installed inside the suspension block housing, and they were supposed to have a central hydraulic shock absorber. Installation and removal of the suspension blocks was not difficult, since each of the blocks was installed on the side and bottom of the self-propelled gun hull using a bolted connection. But in general, the suspension consisted of (on board) five blocks, each with a double support roller with a diameter of 1000 millimeters, “shod” in rubber bands. All suspension wheels were installed according to tradition in a checkerboard pattern. The caterpillar chain was assembled from small-link tracks 66 cm wide.
