, Deadshot
Gradually, Harley's character and role changed, all changes were made through discussions between Paul Dini, Bruce Timm and Alan Barnett.
Biography
Harleen Quinzel was a natural gymnast and, having earned a sports scholarship, entered the university. She was interested in a prestigious diploma in psychiatry, but she did not intend to strain herself in her studies - instead, the girl seduced teachers in whose subjects she did not have time. Harley planned to become a popular psychologist with her own series of books and went to work at the Arkham psychiatric hospital to make a name for herself on the most difficult cases with homicidal maniacs. After three months of persuasion, management allowed her to conduct sessions with the Joker, who fell in love with her. Harley helps the villain escape, the hospital management finds out about this and soon Quinn herself ends up in the clinic, but as a patient.
Together with the Joker, she tried to take revenge on Lex Luther for restoring Gotham, but they were prevented by Superman.
As a result, Harley ended up in prison, where she met Catwoman. Using her psychiatric skills on Selina Kyle, the former psychiatrist was able to escape from prison and even kidnapped Gordon. But Batman was able to save both the commissioner and the thief.
Soon, the Clown Prince of Crime deceived the almost omnipotent 5th-dimensional imp Mr. Miksispitlik and acquired 99% of his powers, proclaiming himself Emperor Joker, ruler of the Earth. He created the Joker League of Anarchy, where, in addition to the other villains, Harley served him, until, as a joke, the all-powerful tyrant turned her into a constellation in the night sky.
When the three Greek gods Deimos, Eris and Phobos, children of the war god Ares, awaken after many hundreds of years of sleep and possess the Joker, Poison Ivy and Scarecrow, Deimos decides to sacrifice Harley Quinn to Ares in order to attract him to Earth, but their heroes stop.
Harley was not offended by her beloved for all the insults, and again helped to get out of the prison for supervillains “Scourge”, and while the Joker was recovering from imprisonment, she managed the Clown’s affairs so successfully that the Joker decided to get rid of her. He shot his ex-lover, but it turned out to be Poison Ivy in a harlequin costume. Seeing the betrayal, the girl beat the Joker and broke off relations with him.
First, Harley joined Two-Face’s gang, then she organized her own gang of five people - a “quintet” (a play on words, a team of five people and a reference to the nickname of the villainess), but they soon decided to kill the leader, as a result of which the clown was injured and considered herself Batgirl, and wearing her costume tried to be a hero.
When psychiatrists decided to conduct experimental therapy and told the Joker that he would soon die, he staged a riot in the Scourge, released an army of supervillains, pumped with his poison, created a disaster on a planetary scale, and finally decided to have an heir, choosing his former passion. But Harley didn’t like this option and she teamed up with superheroes to stop the mad joker.
After all this, Harley and Ivy moved to Metropolis, where Quinn managed to get a job at the Daily Planet as the author of a love advice column, escape from Bizarro, who was in love with her, and eventually explode with a jetpack.
The villainess ended up in hell, where she staged a riot of dead villains, and then got so angry with the demon Etrigan that he expelled her back, returning her to Earth. But it turned out that only Quinn’s soul returned, and her body remained destroyed, the psychopath began to move from body to body, until Martian Manhunter and Zatanna did not return her body.
After some time, Harley began to be harmed by a mysterious enemy, who framed the villainess, whom she exposed and sent to a mental hospital.
Among Batman's main enemies, she participated in Hush and Riddler's plan to destroy the hero. , then she and the girl escaped from Gotham bandits, after which she returned to the clinic for treatment. Along with many villains, she escaped during a general escape from prisons across the planet organized by the Secret Society of Super-Villains, but was stunned as soon as she was outside the hospital. After healing, Quinn tried to escape from the mental hospital during the great escape from prisons around the world, organized by the Society, but she was stunned at the same moment she was freed
After escaping from Arkham and getting into trouble again, she eventually joined the mercenary team Secret Six and fought with them against the heroine team Birds of Prey.
After leaving the team, she again arrived in Metropolis, receiving an offer to work as a psychoanalyst at the Amazon center for women.
Having made friends there with Holly Robinson, Catwoman's friend and former assistant, Harley decided to become a real Amazon. But it soon became clear that the center was organized by Granny Goodness, Darkseid’s servant and the girls ended up on the evil planet Apokolips. They freed the gods captive there and received powers from them (Harley from the comedy muse Thalia), which led to battles and travels across various worlds.
Finally, Harley teamed up with Poison Ivy again, as well as the thief Catwoman, forming the Gotham Sirens team.
The trio of criminals experienced many adventures - the attack of the Joker's former assistant, who took revenge on Harley, visited Harley's family, saved Catwoman from the Black Mask, tried to take revenge on the Joker, quarreled and made peace. will fight Talia al Ghul

After the reboot of the entire DC comics universe, Harley Quinn also underwent changes. The most basic points of the biography remain - she is still the Joker's psychiatrist and helps him escape from Arkham. But like her beloved, she gets several different origin stories.
One by one, she falls in love when the Joker gives her the finger of her father's murderer, who went unpunished. Having learned that her colleague stole her research, she releases the clown out of anger and runs away with him.
According to another version, Quinzel, having become a psychiatrist, works in an elite clinic, but out of boredom is transferred to Arkham, decides to conduct an experiment and poses as a patient; as a result, the Joker kisses her. The clinic's management is unhappy with this experiment, and Harley and the Joker escape.
According to the third, Harleen, having received an excellent education, goes to a mental hospital, because she is interested in the personalities and minds of criminals. There she pretends to be a patient, but the Joker, who sees through her, seduces the girl, and they escape.
Further events are more clear-cut, but then the Joker takes her to the factory to show her where he was “reborn” and throws his beloved into a vat of acid so that she, like him, changes. Harley acquired white skin and completely went crazy, which, however, she was only happy about.
After an argument with the Joker, she begins attacking the people responsible for his imprisonment, which ends with Black Canary capturing Harley and Amanda Waller forcing Quinn to join the Suicide Squad.
When the girl learns that the Joker is rumored to be dead, she attacks the Gotham Police Department in order to get the cut off face of the clown. She succeeds and binds her former teammate Deadshot, puts the Joker's face on him and talks to him like she's a lover. But Deadshot uses cunning to free himself and injure Harley.
After the Joker returns to Gotham, he forces her to use his old Red Hood costume and lure Batman to the chemical plant where they first met. Batman demands Harley tell him where the Joker is. But she only answers in tears that he is no longer “her Joker.”
In this version, Harley was not the Joker's first girlfriend: the mad clown had created similar assistants for himself before, and then killed them and put the corpses in the basement.
Publication history
After the success of the character in the animated series, Harley Quinn appeared in comics. This version of the character was crazier and had less paradoxical humor than the cartoon version, bringing her closer to the Joker's character.
For the first time in comics, Harley Quinn appeared in The Batman Adventures#12 in September 1993. The character's origins were detailed in the graphic novel Mad Love, released in 1994. The novel received good reviews from critics and won several awards - the Eisner Award and the Harvey Award for best single comic book issue of the year. These and subsequent appearances of Harley Quinn in comics up to Batman: Harley Quinn were non-canonical and did not belong to the main DC Universe. IN Batman: Harley Quinn, released in October 1999, expanded on the character's origins and introduced Harley Quinn into DC canon.

After the reboot of the entire DC comics universe, Harley Quinn also underwent changes. The most basic points of the biography remain - she is still the Joker's psychiatrist and helps him escape from Arkema.
Instead of a classic Harlequin costume, this version of the heroine wears very revealing clothes - a corset, short shorts and stockings, and now not in red and black, but in red and blue. Her hair is dyed in the same color scheme. Instead of a huge revolver and a giant wooden hammer, her weapons were many knives and a metal sledgehammer. Quinn later began using a red and black costume theme and a huge hammer.
In November 2013, Harley received her own Harley Quinn series. The series became popular and constantly ranked in the top ten best-selling comic books in the United States.
On September 5, 2013, DC Comics announced a contest for fans and artists, "Break into comics with Harley Quinn!" In particular, the publisher invited the contestants to show Harley in four different suicide scenarios. This competition attracted controversy not only because it was held just days before National Suicide Prevention Week in the United States, but also because some artists did not like the sexual depiction of Harley in the fourth scenario, where Harley attempts suicide in a bathtub while naked.
Alternative versions

- In another version, Lex Luthor is shown as a music producer. One of his groups is singers Harley and Ivy (Poison Ivy).

About the heroine of "Suicide Squad" point by point
The character of Harley Quinn first appeared not in the comics, like most DC characters, but in the animated series Batman: The Animated Series in the 1990s. Her role wasn't supposed to be big. Harley is just the Joker's henchwoman.
The character was inspired by actress Arlene Sorkin, who appeared in the TV series “Days of Our Lives” in a clown costume. She also gave Harley her voice.
Harley is mainly known from cartoons and video games. The character has never had a full-fledged screen role, except for the unpopular series Birds of Prey (2002), where she does not wear the famous costume and no one remembers her great love for the Joker. And also a small appearance (literally small - we hear the voice, but don’t even see the heroine’s face) in the series “Arrow”.
Already twice the character of Harley could appear on the screens: in the failed film Batman Triumphant, a continuation of the films about Batman and Robin (then their roles were played by George Clooney and Chris O'Donnell). At that time, the role of Harley Quinn could be played by Madonna, and in Nolan's Dark Knight" this character could have been played by Juno Temple.
For the first time in a comic book, Harley Quinn appears in the issue of Bad Love in 1993, and the full-fledged heroine became part of the DC universe six years later in the history of No Man's Land. In 2013, Harley Quinn received her own line of comics, which became popular.
The story of Harley Quinn herself is not simple. Arkham Asylum psychiatrist Harleen Quinnzel was one of the Joker's treating doctors. Realizing that the girl was showing interest in him, the scoundrel did everything to make Harleen fall in love with him. Harleen helped the Joker escape from the hospital and became his assistant, wearing a clown costume. In the Mistah J comic, the Joker decides to bathe her in chemicals that turn her skin snow-white and drive the girl crazy (this moment also appears in the film Suicide Squad). Interestingly, the very name Harley Quinn is a modified name of Harlequin.
Quinn commits most of his crimes in the name of mad love for the Joker or on his direct orders. For the Joker himself, Harleen is not so unique: in the comics he had other girlfriends in clown costumes, whom he killed when he got tired of them.
At one time in the comics, Harley Quinn tried to give up a life of crime and once even helped Batman.
Harley Quinn doesn't have superpowers, but she did gymnastics before becoming a doctor. Amazing flexibility, strength and jumping ability helped her develop a special fighting style. In addition, she is good with weapons. The criminal's signature weapon was a baseball bat.
Harley often uses toys to attack - a box with a clown or a huge hammer. Also in the comics, her friend (with whom, most likely, they are connected not only by friendship) Poison Ivy “treated” Quinn to a special poison, which gave the girl immunity to all types of toxins.
The costume that we see in Suicide Squad did not immediately begin to be worn by Harley Quinn in comics (it became popular after the video game Batman: Arkham Asylum). At first she wore a red and black leotard and a Harlequin mask. By the way, in one of the videos for “The Squad” you can see how Margot Robbie is holding this particular suit.
Today, Harley Quinn is a beloved character, whose image is often used in various fields. For example, on VKontakte, users blocked for spam received an avatar with her image.
7. There are rumors that Margot Robbie will once again return to the role of Harley Quinn. Warner Bros. is planning a separate film about the anti-heroine, and the actress herself said that she would like to see Harley more often. During a red carpet interview at the Suicide Squad premiere, Robbie said that "anyone who's read comic books knows there are millions of stories that can be adapted into films."Prepared by Katerina Yatel

Biography
Harley's origins were featured in the Batman: The Animated Series and comic book entitled Mad Love. The story begins with Dr. Harleen Quinzel working as a young intern at Arkham Asylum. She meets the Joker and quickly becomes fascinated by his insane motives. She voluntarily asked to be given the opportunity to work with him and analyze him. During one of their sessions, the Joker tells her about his tragic past, and how his father abused him. She showed empathy and sympathy for him and quickly fell in love with him. She helped the Joker escape by dressing up in a harlequin costume. Thus began her career as the Joker's accomplice.
Later, Harley learns that everything the Joker told her was most likely a lie or a deception. He deliberately tells her what she wanted to hear in order to make her fall in love with him. This is what the Joker does for Harley throughout their relationship. She knows this and constantly tries to leave him, but like an abused spouse, she continues to forgive him and constantly runs back into his arms. Of course, Harley's license is revoked when her boss, Joan Leland, finds out that she is the one who released the .
Since the beginning of her relationship with the Joker, Harley has played a very submissive role. She is often used and abused by the Joker to the point where her life is threatened several times. However, she remains faithful to her man and stays with him even when things go wrong. Harley's relationship with the Joker is one of the most complex and twisted romances in comics. As with all people, the Joker is abusive and skillful in manipulating Harley, but there are just as often signs of camaraderie, playfulness, and affection towards her. She is the only person who has managed to become close to the Joker for such a long period of time, and although he generally accepts their relationship, we even sometimes see moments of confusion and discomfort that lead to attempts to kill her.
Capabilities
Harley Quinn does not have any superpowers. However, after the Joker's failed attempt to blow her up in a rocket, she was given the "elixir" by her friend, Poison Ivy. This "elixir" enhanced her strength, speed and agility, and also provided her with immunity to toxins and a slight healing factor (later in the solo series, she was shown to be able to heal from gunshot wounds in a matter of seconds once the bullet was hit). extracted).
She is also an excellent fighter who often uses acrobatic abilities. Harley uses a variety of strange and unique weapons and gadgets, such as a large hammer or a large gun with a large plug in it. Both of these weapons she uses are surprisingly very effective, and they are actually more effective than they may seem from the outside. When Poison Ivy gave Harley some kind of elixir that increases her strength and speed. But the abilities are not beyond the capabilities of an ordinary person, but she does have more strength than any Olympic level athlete. Her legs are very powerful, allowing her to jump very high without any effort and, combined with her excellent gymnastics skills, makes her incredibly agile and agile in battle.

Biography
Harleen Quinzel, a native of Brooklyn, New York, was an intern at Arkham Asylum. She begged the management to allow her to conduct sessions with the Joker, and when this happened, she fell under the charisma of a maniac. She fell in love and helped the maniac escape over and over again. One day she was caught, and from a doctor she became a patient herself. During No Man's Land(No Man's Land) Harley was able to free herself, found herself a harlequin costume and beat up Penguin, earning the respect of the Joker. The couple enjoyed each other until the Joker put her in a rocket and sent her to Robinson Park. Harley fell almost on Poison Ivy's head, marking the beginning of one of the strangest relationships in comics. Ivy came out and gave her a special juice to drink: it gave Harley super strength and super speed - secretly, the cunning red-haired beast hoped that she would take revenge with the hands of Harley on the Joker she hated.
However, everything did not go as Ivy planned: Harley and the Joker were reunited, after Harley had a fight with Batman.
Harley was a cameo character No Man's Land until she helped the Joker in one of his most terrible crimes - the murder of Commissioner Gordon's wife.
After the end of events No Man's Land Harley ended up in prison, where she became bitter. In the next cell, Catwoman was serving her sentence, and Harley did not miss the chance to use her: she organized their escape and used the hypnotized Cat in her plans to kill Commissioner Gordon. Batman stopped them.
The pair were reunited when the Joker became Emperor Joker. Joker, as a joke, kissed Harley and turned her into a constellation. After everything returned to normal, the Joker soon received powers again - this time from Deimos, becoming the Avatar of Chaos. Poison Ivy received the powers of Eris, the Goddess of Discord, and Scarecrow received the powers of Phobos, becoming the embodiment of fear. Together they decided to sacrifice Harley to Ares. Wonder Woman and other heroes stopped them. When everything returned to normal, Harley was not even offended by her lover, friend and former teacher.
Later, Harley tried to get the Joker out of Slab prison, but used a lot of dynamite - while the Joker was being treated, she took over leadership of the gang. The Joker didn't like this, and at the first opportunity he shot Harley. It turned out to be Poison Ivy in disguise, and an outraged Harley broke off all relations with him.
Harley and Ivy went to Metropolis, where they fought Superman, and then Harley... died. Later, Etrigan the Demon released her soul from Hell. With the help of the Martian Manhunter and Zatanna, Harley regained her body.
Once in Arkham, Harley asked for rehabilitation and unexpectedly received it when she was kidnapped by the second Ventriloquist II and Scarface, who were planning a robbery. Harley realized that at the end of the case she would not be left alive and handed over the entire gang to Batman. By doing this, she achieved her release from Arkham.
Harley was reunited with the Joker, but he was no longer the same "Pie" she once loved. When he tried to kill her again, she shot him in the shoulder and broke off the relationship again.
Harley joined the Secret Six, a gang of mercenaries. She was on missions in Baku and Rio: the latter mission she failed due to the intervention of another team member, RagDoll. She left the team.
Along with Holly Robinson and Mary Marvel during Countdown, she received powers from the comedy muse Thalia when she freed her from captivity on Apokolips. She bravely fought against the troops of Granny Goodness, which earned her fame not only as a villain.
After some time, Harley teamed up with Poison Ivy and Catwoman in order to exist together in a city that had become restless after the probable death of Batman. She fought in this team with the new villain Boneblaster, met with the Joker's first assistant - Gaggy, fought with Doctor Aesop and Catwoman's sister who had gone crazy.
Later, Harley wanted to kill the one who destroyed her life - the Joker, but again fell under the maniac's charisma and was sent to Arkham. Poison Ivy, who was beaten by Harleen, realized that she loved her and helped her escape. They learned from Catwoman that they had been relatively safe all this time only because Batman wanted it that way. The girls' paths diverged...
At the moment (after the restart of the universe) Harley Quinn is a member of the Suicide Squad.

Batman: Harley Quinn (October 1999)
With praises being sung for her incredible portrayal of the villain Harley Quinn (her role in Suicide Squad outshone all others), it's time to learn more about the Joker's assistant. Harley (real name Harleen Quinzel) is a relatively young character in the DC universe, her debut took place in 1992 in the animated series “Batman”.
Bells or red and blue suit
Many have already realized that Harleen Quinzel took a “crooked path” when she met the Joker. Then she was an ex-gymnast (who studied on a sports scholarship), an inexperienced doctor who joined the team of doctors at the Arkham psychiatric hospital for especially dangerous criminals, and the Joker was her patient. She fell in love with the charismatic joker, helped him escape, and soon donned the villainous outfit herself. This version of Harley Quinn (she chose her name based on the word "harlequin") wore a matching harlequin costume with bells on her head. But the creators of “Suicide Squad” chose the second version of the villainess, who loves a corset, stockings, short shorts, red and blue colors. This Harley's face is completely white - she was in a vat of acid and completely went crazy.
Unhappy childhood
They say that the roots of the obsession of many maniacs must be sought in the childhood of the villain. And some comic book heroes became stronger and more courageous after difficult trials (Bruce Wayne’s parents were killed when he was a boy, Barry Allen lost his mother). Comic book fans learned about Harley Quinn's family only in February 2010 in Gotham City Sirens #7. Of course, Quinn's story isn't as shocking as the Wayne massacre. Harley had a cruel, hard-to-please mother who disapproved of everything her daughter did, and a slobby brother who fancied himself a rock star.
Sex with Deadshot
Despite her passionate love for the Joker, in one of the cartoons (Assault on Arkham) Harley had a sexual relationship with Deadshot. There was always playful banter between them, and Quinn behaved provocatively: all this was her coquetry and sexy costume. And then one day Floyd Lawton, aka Deadshot, came into his room after a shower and saw Harley. As they say, don't look a gift horse in the mouth! The erotic scene was carefully constructed, but it still shocked the audience.
Four suicide scenarios
One day, DC Comics announced a contest asking comic book fans to draw Quinn in four different suicide scenarios. A whole stream of pictures headed to the editorial office - both quite tolerable and creepy, tasteless and too frank. People were outraged that the competition was announced on the eve of Suicide Prevention Week in the United States, and the main controversy was caused by the final scenario - when Harley loses her life in the bathtub. Imagine how fans' imaginations ran wild - they didn't need a special invitation to draw a naked, wet Harley!
A whole "set" of Harleys
In the rebooted comic book universe called "New-52", Harley was far from the Joker's first companion. The boyfriend himself told the ex-psychiatrist about this - he tied Quinn up and abused her. According to the sadist, he had a lot of girls, which he killed and stored in the basement. In order for Quinzel to believe, the Joker lowered her underground, tied her there, and she found herself surrounded by the skeletons of her “friends in misfortune.”
Alternative versions
Harley Quinn has appeared in alternate versions of comic books. In one, her name was Hayley Fitzpatrick, and she was a teenage girl in love with a female Joker. When her partner died at the hands of Batgirl, Hayley went on a rampage and brutally exterminated her family. In another, Harley and Ivy (Poison Ivy) are lead singers in a rock band produced by Lex Luthor.
Here's a particularly disgusting version of Harley Quinn - she was shown in the 2015 animated film released for video "Justice League: Gods and Monsters." In this cartoon, Amanda Waller has taken the presidency, and the “great three” (Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman) are accused of a terrible crime. However, the superheroes here don’t look like themselves; they look more like villains. But Harley Quinn did not become “white and fluffy” at all; she killed and maimed people, turning them into dolls and toys.
Try on the Joker's face
In the New 52, the Joker's face is ripped off (by locking him up in a Gotham police station, which is pretty weird). Quinn rushes towards the police like a fury and takes the face. Why do you think? Harley wanted to talk to her lover again. She tied up Deadshot, put his severed face on him and began talking to him. True, he managed to get a weapon and fire several bullets at the crazy woman.
Third Robin
The first Robin (Batman's assistant) was Dick Grayson, the second was Jason Todd. According to the plot of the cartoon "Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker", Tim Drake, the third Robin, fell out of favor with the Joker and Harley Quinn. This couple kidnaps Tim and tortures him for several weeks, brainwashing the guy and trying to make him like themselves.
She has a daughter!
And one more shocking fact about Harley Quinn that you probably didn't know. She has a daughter! True, only in the alternate DC universe, but this does not stop us from being surprised by this fact. The villainess herself admits this in the midst of the battle with Black Canary. Harley stops the fight when she realizes her opponent is pregnant and reveals that she has a four-year-old daughter, Lucy. The girl's father is the Joker, but he doesn't even know about Lucy's existence. Quinn disappeared for a while to give birth to her child, and then left her daughter with her sister.
